Any mil guys know how to build a patch cable that will let me run music in to my headset but not the ICS?
I have a U-174 headset extension cable and I was thinking I’d just connect the audio and ground wires from an audio jack to the speaker cables on the extension, would this work?
Any tips are appreciated, or if there’s a product on Amazon I’m missing that can do the same thing. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I thought I'd share my experience getting Quantum Fiber installed today. I was a long time Comcast subscriber, but lately their service was terrible.
Each work day, perhaps at peak times, my Comcast service would basically fail. Tons of dropped packets, and ping times exceeding 2 seconds for routes that usually were around 50ms. Since my partner and I work from home frequently for video calls and Internet work, that was unacceptable.
Quantum was appealing for the speeds and latency. I finally bit the bullet and scheduled the installation. I chose the 2Gb up / 1 Gb down option that was available for my area in south Seattle. I didn't want to use their router and Wifi hardware, though. I had a great experience in my small business deploying Ubiquiti hardware, so I wanted to use a Dream Machine Special Edition with their Wifi access points.
I had read previous threads here about how setup depended on VLAN tagging, so I wasn't sure how it'd go. I also was concerned about the aesthetics of the new fiber hardware in my home.
When the day came for install (today), the tech arrived on time within the prescribed window and was very professional. He didn't know about the Ubiquiti hardware, but I don't blame him for that. Installation to run the fiber line from the repeater on the utility pole to my house took about 2 hours, and I discussed with the tech exactly how I wanted the fiber device to be mounted in the interior room. He was respectful and made it happen how I wanted.
They by default include a Wifi 7 routeaccess point, and since I didn't know if the Ubiquiti hardware would be difficult to configure I accepted their device, and the tech completed the install. It seems like Quantum has a centrally managed device array for Wifi, and my tech explained how the company was besieged in the past with people stealing connectivity somehow.
Since there was a major windstorm and associated power outages in the region, he said he wasn't sure if the Wifi could be completed successfully due to a system issue. That alone to me was a signal that using my own hardware for network distribution within the home was the way to go. He also said that the Wifi hardware adapts to usage patterns based on usage, which was interesting. That all sounded like something I want to avoid.
He completed the install in time, and he did a good job to survey connectivity in the home and offer to bring more of their Wifi repeater cells for zones that had less than optimal coverage. The Wifi service did complete and functioned perfectly. I thanked him for the work, and the install was done.
That's when I was ready to plug in the Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro and see what happened. The punchline here is that it just worked. I didn't have to configure any VLAN settings or anything. I took the CAT6 cable that the ONT fiber terminator had on it and removed that connection from their Wifi router and plugged it into the DRM Pro. Then, I set up and configured my U6 LR access point. The DRM Pro registered 2Gb down and 1Gb up, actually a little over, and that was it.
I'm only a few hours in, so I don't have any data to report yet on workweek latency or dropped packets. But hopefully for other people searching around for current information can benefit from my experience. It was pretty turnkey and easy! Fingers crossed for sustained performance like this.

So my husband and I found some land and want to purchase it to settle down and build our dream home.
From the start of the discussion it’s always been about putting the work in ourselves and getting all the little things we want in a home we plan to stay in for good. We were both excited for a big project since we’ve been doing little projects for so long and wanted to be able to make something custom to who we are.
Tonight my husband came to me with a barndominium. It was a nice layout and attractive from the outside, but since we had been discussing where we’d live on the land while building I had assumed this would be the in law suite after we moved into the main house. This set him off. it seems he wants this barndominium as the main house and he was angry that I suggested it would be secondary rather than just show complete support for something I’m not sold on for our home. As much as I am open to this as an option, it just feels…. So impersonal. I was under the impression that we would be building our dream home, not tacking on what we want to something premade.
If this is what he wants I’m open to it but I feel like we’re missing out on making something really special together.
I’m sorry I’m not really doing well on describing it but I wanted our home to encapsulate US and this feels like a bastardization of what we originally agreed to.

So for starters I just started this job today. I get it, it's my first day and I'm not beholden to this role or the company so maybe I'm overreacting and getting mental over nothing. I started this role because I was getting laid off and I was offered this role in another department. I work in IT, I joined up with another client to help support them in the region as an Audio Visual Tech and Desktop Support person.
I get a sense of guilt over the fact that I have met my manager and he seems like a good guy and that he has put a lot of faith in me in getting this role. We spent the day in the office and he travelled a few states away to meet me in person. I wouldn't feel this way if he was just some random person behind the screen that I never met but I have. I get the sense that they think I can do a lot of great work and put some faith in me to do it.
Perhaps I'm emotional over nothing but I really do feel this way and I'm not sure how to handle it. I was not thrilled with this job and took it as a stop gap until I get rehired at an old job that I worked at. I was laid off back in June due to financial reasons, there's been a managerial shift and my old boss says he wants me to come back pronto. I feel like the old role has greater opportunity for me, I got a lot more responsibility and felt like I was fulfilled more there and will grow more. The role I took is not something I really wanted nor was happy about, I took it because I was being laid off and didn't want to go on unemployment.
No official offer has been made to me yet at the old job and I haven't talked to anyone at my current company about this. Assuming that this all works out, how would you handle that discussion. He's an adult man and it's a workplace so I don't really care about that but I do feel bad about feeling like I lead them on.

I was happily using an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw for the past 2 years. Had rare networking issues where I'd have to shut the printer off & reconnect to my wifi & occasionally printed double-sided when I specified single-sided, but other than that worked fairly well.
Just purchased a Canon imageClass MF753Cdw (really needed a color laser MFP that also had duplex scanning).
After using the Canon interface online for a few days I'm missing the easy to use HP app. The Canon feels clunky and old-school. Yes it's only been a few days, but I'm thinking of returning the Canon and getting the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw.
Am I making a huge mistake going back to HP???

Just wanted to vent about the stupidity we went through this last 6 months on a new build and how system is part science but also completely random and biased.
Long story short our custom home appraised $350,000 less than build cost ($1,650,000). VA loan, so appealed all the way up to VA and they agreed probably appraised low but no other appraisers would openly admit that to them. So they ultimately sided with original appraiser.
Here’s the stupid part, our builder built/building essentially same home but a little smaller (quality, location, sq ft, beds/baths) for 2 others during this same time frame and one appraisal came in right at build cost while the other was $400,000 OVER build cost!!!
So how can 3 different appraisers be THAT wildly off? I mean, I could see maybe $50,000-$100,000 on a nice custom home. But to have 3 appraisers all come up with 3 wildly different numbers is frustrating.
/end of rant.
