2024.11.27 13:38 Labays XP Shortages
My party, a couple sessions ago, just started book 2. I'm trying to follow the level up guidelines, but I am noticing a pattern.
After wrapping up the first book, my players ended up being short about 200 XP. Luckily, my players had some nice roleplay and I was able to sneak in that extra XP to barely get them to level 4 without making it seem like I was just padding out their experience totals.
But last session, they finished the first chapter of the second book, and once again, they are short 200-300 XP from what the book says they should be at.
Do the books expect the players to get every point of XP, even the achievement XP that is hidden away by highly specific circumstances and critically succeeding skill challenges?
In the Abomination Vaults game I run, I have the opposite problem where my party is leveling too quickly, but here I feel pressured to come up with extra content to catch the PCs up.
To make the start of the next chapter more lively, I am thinking about throwing in one or two encounters with the Gilded Gunners. Hopefully that can be enough to put them to level 5.

With the introduction of engineering, do you think a rework of the Constellation Taurus is on the horizon? I have a feeling the interior layouts might undergo some minor adjustments to accommodate the new gameplay mechanics.
The delays in rolling out engineering make me think that some ships may require adjustments to fully integrate the system. Could this be the case for the Taurus?
Also, do you think these ships will still be suitable for solo bounty hunting or bunker missions in the verse?

I need advice on planning to switch jobs. I am open to opportunities. I had a realisation that I am being insanely underpaid based on my experience and the value I provide.
Background: I have been working with a Canadian startup for over 2 years now. I was the first developer in the company so I elevated the project from the ground up, coming up with architecture, database design, technologies to be used, research, planning, methodologies and creating coding standards, streamlining the development process etc. Working closely with CEO and CTO. Then creating both backend and frontend. I help mobile developer colleague on mobile side as well, since I also have mobile apps development experience. Single handedly managed all that. In these 2 years, I only got an increment of only 20000 rupees. The company have got multiple seeding rounds with millions of dollars investment. The reason I have stayed this long is because of job security. And also the company give us space, not policing on everything, strict 9-5 job. Manager himself getup from office at 5pm. We have never been forced to work overtime. Nowadays the CTO is in canada so when we have online meeting he himself have set the time off strict at 5pm, meeting automatically ends at 5pm. Also I work closely with CTO which I prefer. I did the same in my previous job working closely with CEO.
My work Experience: I have knowledge in various technologies mainly Node.js, React, Nextjs, d3.js. I have developed apps in react native for mobile. I have knowledge of linux server, Hyper-V, Dockers, Apache. I have knowledge of networking, I have been running my own home server with pfSense firewall, load balancer, HAProxy with virtual IPs , all of these running on various VMs. It is connected to GCP instance through wireguard to host apps. Also since I developed my AI project in my final year in python, I have vast knowledge of python as well but have never developed websites in it. Also I have knowledge of embedded systems since I studied computer engineering. I worked on IoT projects in my previous company, working closely with hardware engineers since I was the only one in the company who could understand both hardware and software architecture in depth.
Looking for: I stayed too long for something that doesn't seem going anywhere. I need advice whether I should stay at this point or move on. Also I am maybe looking more for staff or principal role based on multiple tech skills I hold now at this point or should I stay for similar role.
I am open to opportunities though. I am based in Islamabad but I am open to relocation if the company is willing to help.

My car was legally parked on the street while I wasn’t there when a pickup truck drove past and its tire popped out and hit my car door. What sheer bad luck! They did notify the police and I was able to obtain the police report. I’m not sure what to do next. They are insured. I live in Atlanta, Ga and have Costco auto insurance through AmFam. Should I contact the at-fault driver at all? Should I file a claim with the at-fault insurance company (AllState). If so, would that potentially hike my insurance rates with Costco in the future?
