2024.11.27 13:50 Shmishshmashsquash First pay day in the UK.. I don’t understand.
This is my first job working in the UK (I’m Irish so have only worked at home before this) and I’m so confused over my paycheck?
For context I earn £28,000 annually, but I got fucked by being put in the emergency tax bracket (HR’s fault) so I don’t know what my normal pay check will look like but I really need to know.
1) Am I going to be paying tax? My coworker said that because my total earnings by April 2025 won’t amount to over 12k then I won’t pay any tax until then? Is this true? Will my net and gross monthly income be the same?
2) If I am going to pay tax then what am I paying? Everything I find out just says “income tax” but that seems very vague - Does PAYE and the NI tax make up income tax? How are they calculated?
3) How much tax should I be expecting to pay? Is £250 a fair guess, I would love a more specific percentage.
I appreciate that these are probably such basic questions but I would really appreciate some help in understanding it all. I swear I was really good at understanding taxes and things back home but I’m just struggling to get to terms with a different country’s way of doing things.

I currently stream "Warzone" (which is absolutely broken at the moment) and sometimes "Fitness and Health."
I was wondering what draws you into a stream and what keeps you there?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I want to make it the best viewing experience that I can.

I was scrolling on fb and someone posted a video of the shooting (recording was of the sound not the army doing it) and there were people in the comments almost celebrating it and berating the only people that came out to raise their voice against tyranny.
Can't they see whats happening to the country? internet is closed anytime they wish they can close even the VPNs and networks. its now clearly visible what they are and they arent even trying to hide it anymore. I believe we may be slowly regressing towards a dictatorship because Lumber 1 is already our ruler in all ways....
Today it was them who were killed because they raised their voice .who will raise their voice tomorrow for you ?
