2024.11.27 14:24 No_Paramedic_2039 1/2 day at work around the holidays
I am a business owner and over the last few years I’m getting more pushback from employees regarding getting extra time off around the holidays. Christmas Eve is always a half-day work schedule and of course everyone has Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day off.
That’s where it ends for me. AITA for insisting that the day before and after Thanksgiving as well as New Year’s Eve are full work days? If someone wants to take those days off then that’s fine with me and they can take PTO. I’m running a business and not creating another paid holiday which reduces my business income.

So I have no idea why this happens, but the FM radio will randomly turn on when I'm trying to scan a scanlist. (long hold P1) I hold P1 to start scanning, and then it will turn on the FM radio. When that happens, P2 also turns on the FM radio, and the little button at the top also turns on the radio. I have unbound every button from FM radio so why is this still happening? Only fix is to reboot the radio. Once rebooted, P1 and P2 work like they should, until it randomly happens again.
bought this radio last month. The firmware is the newest as far as I'm aware. Any help would be appreciated. it's very frustrating.

Yes, another AI post.
This one was especially interesting to me, as Nvidia is marketing this as a sound generator that isn't focused on churning out complete songs based on prompt as we've seen with earlier generative AI music apps like Suno, but rather another form of synthesis that can create what would otherwise be unattainable / more difficult sound creations, for example "a train passing by that becomes a lush orchestra" as heard in their demonstration video, or using the technology as a tool to transcribe music from one instrument to another in a different form that what was previously recorded.
“The history of music is also a history of technology. The electric guitar gave the world rock and roll. When the sampler showed up, hip-hop was born,” said Zmishlany. “With AI, we’re writing the next chapter of music. We have a new instrument, a new tool for making music — and that’s super exciting.”
Based on this quote alone, it can be assumed that big tech companies are going to be marketing AI like this going forward as a "musical tool" to possibly create entire works with, as opposed to some novelty song generator that works through limitations. I can see electronic music companies like Roland and Korg throwing their hat into the ring with a competitive app and/or software that helps refine the AI even more to levels of what many fear as being indistinguishable from human-made works.
This will be a major blow more to sound designers and artists working with film studios than it will musicians, as any sound can be made possible with a command rather than with the use of expertise and techniques of a designer with years of prior experience in the field, while AI trying to replicate instruments may still sound a bit too uncanny to be convincing. Despite any price tag that Nvidia puts on Fugatto or any future AI products of its kind, it will be cheaper for big studios and other various clients in the long run to use generative SFX than hiring people to do the same thing for a higher cost.
Without being able to limit or regulate the use of the technology or even enforce its terms of use, the impact of a more sophisticated audio generative AI will be detrimental to the recording arts as a whole, and make the likelihood of artists and sound designers getting jobs on a consistent basis or achieving success even more difficult than it is nowadays.

Ocorre que fui diagnosticado com uma compressão de coluna grave que vai requerer uma cirurgia de 3 meses de recuperação para voltar a trabalhar, e o médico quer fazer ela em meados de Janeiro. Caso eu tenha sido nomeado antes da cirurgia, minha posse pode ser adiada para quando eu estiver apto ao trabalho? Se eu tiver sido empossado, o exercício pode ser adiado? Ou então, se eu estiver incapacitado quando me chamarem, vou perder a vaga? Tentei ler a lei de servidor federal e não achei nada nesse sentido

Silly little prompt that's about 99% smut inducing.
What if the reason for the rebellion was that Rhaegar was possessed by a Lust demon, and Jon is an Incubus because of it. Or maybe Ned if Jon's his son.
This could be strung together pretty well with the Others. Like, they're a type of demon working for an archdevil or something and their children always have special powers, same with all other demons/devils. Maybe other characters have similar backgrounds, like maybe Myrcella is true born because of angelic/celestial possession of Cersei, and therefore is, I don't know, a love/loyalty minor celestial, for example.

HCOL, Midwest. 3rd Year Associate, 115k plus 25k bonus, employer paid health.
Billable requirement 2000, extremely easy to meet- some attorneys bill 2600-3000 annually. 30 attorneys, associate billable rate is 160, was told partner is closer to 200 but could be wrong.
What kind of salary progression can I expect? Possible to be making 175k plus bonus in 5 years? Do partners also make 1/3 of their billables? What is the general rule of thumb for raises- is it 10-15% per year for the first 3-5 years, then tapering out? Wondering whether to look for something else, although I really love the firm I'm at. Yes, I know, ID gets a bad rep, and most of it seems deserved.

 | I'm a bit at a loss and honestly pretty defeated by how this has turned out. Using aqueous hobby color. Thinned with leveling at about 1:1. When I attempt to do light coats the damn brush clogs after not even a single piece. I can amp the brush to where it finally explodes out and then lower it to go over the pieces, but I get this terrible finish. I've noticed when I do go lightly over the things it looks as though literally nothing is coming out but air. Takes me more than two hours to do about 15 pieces. Can I fix this?
