I finished reading Babel by RF Kuang a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it but agree it had its flaws. However, whilst I agree with most of the criticism, I don't understand why people are complaining about the political aspects being heavy handed.
Like... it's a book about a Chinese orphan in England during the 1800's. I'd be concerned if the book wasn't political? The blurb literally says "Can a student stand against an empire?" so it's not exactly trying to hide it. Am I going crazy because I think there's plenty to criticise but I genuinely don't see how the politics being such a heavy part of the story is an issue?

After I was direct and sincere, I asked her why. Her main arguments were: - âRelationships usually break friendshipsâ - âIâve lost a lot of friends by not being sureâ - âIn my last relationship I had yo teach my ex how to be in one, that was something that hurt meâ - âI donât want nobody to have to wait for anythingâ - âLetâs just be friendsâ
I really really love her in a way I have never felt for no-one. I wish I could even keep the friendship as it was, but I donât think I can. This hurt me a lot. The previous day we were cuddling, I thought I had won in life. I told her to tell me when she was sure about her decision, but I donât know what to do or say. Should I even trust to influence her choice? Should I act a certain way once she says a definitive no? Can I be her friend in the same way when our âfriendshipâ dynamic was based on a romantic interest (mutual)?
I donât think Iâll be able to pay as much attention to her, remember the details about her life and make time for her anymore.
I understand what she means, but it also feels like a way of killing both a romantic relationship and a friendship at the same time.

2024.11.27 17:30 Nyther53 What are the rules for refitting Captured Ships?
I can't quite figure out the underlying logic.
As Germany, 1947's rolled around and I'm on top of the world, but while I can refit the Bretagne and Courbet and all the ships I've taken from France, if I try to make a design for the KGVs or New York using the same method the Naval XP dissapears into the ether and I get no working design. I'm not sure what the difference is between the ships I've captured from France and the ship's I've captured from the UK.
Does anyone know? Is it because there's still a puppeted France? I feel like that can't be it, because ENG still exists and they're a puppet of one of my faction members. To try and test I used console commands to transfer them to be my puppet and still couldn't edit any of the UK designs, despite them being country tag ENG under the hood. I've also got a puppeted USA, but they've produces a numbered "d06" tag, so thats a confounding variable as well.
Does anyone know if this is a bug, or if its all consistent and I've simply missed the deciding factors?

Gosto muito daqui e do time, alcancei cargo de pleno porĂ©m o salĂĄrio Ă© definitivamente muito abaixo do mercado, especialmente estando em SP, e sei que nĂŁo existe muito futuro continuar aqui, apesar que definitivamente tenho um pouco a mais a crescer dentro da empresa. Tenho 2 anos e meio de carreira e este Ă© meu primeiro e Ășnico emprego na ĂĄrea.
Tive sucesso com o processo admissional pra uma empresa de SP (que começa com T e termina com ractian), porĂ©m quanto mais pesquiso sobre mais com o pĂ© atrĂĄs eu fico. Por um lado possui unidades em outros paĂses, claramente estĂĄ se dando bem no mercado e promete crescimento grande (alĂ©m de aparentemente ter o selo great place to work), porĂ©m tambĂ©m hĂĄ muitos relatos de ritmo muito pesado, demanda grande e muita cobrança.
O que vocĂȘs fariam? Vale a pena entrar de cabeça no mercado e encarar uma startup? Mesmo com o salĂĄrio menor, um ritmo de trabalho confortĂĄvel Ă© sempre a melhor opção? Seria a tractian realmente tĂŁo ruim quanto fazem parecer, ou Ă© apenas um ritmo de qualquer outra empresa grande?
