Hi everyone,
My parents are getting older (60+), and made a terrible decision to pay £5000 upfront, in cash, to a supposed roofing company, who turned out to be complete scammers with no qualifications or even reviews (that I can find online).
The company ( M.C.C Roofing and Building Ltd, based in London), not only did NOT fix the leak in our guttering, but they actually caused a SECONDARY leak - so now we have leaks at the front and the back of the house.
They are not responding to my father's texts, and keep saying they'll come over to fix it, but won't set a day, text or call back.
They're going to try and disappear with our money.
My goal is to get the full £5000 refunded to my parents.
My questions to you guys are this:
- Should I take them straight to Small Claims, or first try Mediation?
- We have photo and video evidence of the bad work done on the roof and guttering, as well as active leaks form the guttering (that they supposedly 'fixed').
- We have text evidence of them promising to fix it, and then ghosting.
- We have a paper contract with a staff member's signature, listing the work they agreed to do and the price.
- They claim a lifetime guarantee.
Do I need to hire a lawyer, and how much would that cost me?
Would that cost eventually be paid by the defendant, if I win the claim?
Thank you so much. Conmen like this make me so angry! Ugh. Now I have to deal with 40 year old men who act like babies and can't communicate or hold any integrity...as a 26 year old woman. Jesus.

2024.11.27 18:50 TRIBETWELVE pulling my hair out over a good reverse reverb pedal.
I've gone through 4 reverb pedals of varying cost in the last year trying to find a reverse reverb that works correctly, they've all had at least one problem.
I've gone through a digiverb (full wet gives a lot of volume loss), a keeley parralax (doesn't go full wet, reverse sounds weak), a cathedral (has pre delay by default), and now a Walrus Audio decent (pre delay and I cant seem to get the reverse to drag like I want it).
ironically, the first and cheapest reverse I got (coolmusic reverberry, the yellow one), did the sound that I want better than the rest: (https://snowblinder.bandcamp.com/track/yearn) heres an example of what I mean.
theres no delay from the time I strum to the time the reverse kicks in, I cant seem to replicate it with the other pedals I've used.
I believe that this pedal is a copy of the reverberry but Its been updated and no longer has gated or reverse

I guess what I'm asking is: why am I having so much trouble with this, and why are the only pedals that I've found that do it correctly obscure chinese pedals?
I know that the actual solution is forking out the cash for a big sky or an rv7, but help a broke guy out.

I have multiple things to do and study for tomorrow, but stress caused by them makes me unable to work. My regular tactics like breathing, pomodoro or walking are not working this time. I opt to having multiple things playing in background just so I can get distracted enough from anxiety, but at the same time I get distracted from doing things.

Guten Abend, also um es kurz zu fassen. Mein Vater hatte früher ein Spielproblem und hat mehrere 1000€ verspielt. Meine Eltern haben sich fast scheiden lassen als ich 12 war. So jetzt 10 Jahre später musste ich ihm am Handy helfen, spezifisch um was bei PayPal zu machen. Mir ist halt halt aufgefallen wie nervös er war etc. und dann habe ich bisschen geklickt und mehrere 100€ Einzahlungen an eine Novo GmbH gefunden. Scheint irgendwas mit Sportwetten zu sein. Kann jemand mir näherer Informationen dazu geben also was das ist? Habe es ganz schnell geschafft ein Foto zu machen. Mir ist wirklich kotzübel. Ich hab halt Angst, dass er das Geld um die Wohnung abzubezahlen verspielt hat.

I enjoy my g900 but it has gotten too heavy, creaks too much, buttons feel kinda high up, and overall makes me aim slow. I use a relaxed claw grip. I’ve noticed that I enjoy being able to comfortably lift the mouse, as some shapes feel like the mouse slips a little due to slope of the base. My wife has an ROG Keris II, which is nice but gives me that slipping sensation and I have to rotate the mouse in my hand to feel locked in. I also tend to more aggressively curl my picky in order to secure my current g900, I’m not sure if this is out of preference or necessity. I do enjoy the fuller feeling of the mouse in my palm. I’m mostly leaning towards symmetrical mice in the medium to large range, but I’m open to other options. Hopefully all these random descriptors will be helpful in finding me a new mouse. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Just looking for a little insight/reassurance on next steps to take.
I don't have any details yet, nor have I seen the report. But about 6 months ago, my partner (39M, a lot of family history of cancer, and a long-term heavy drinker and smoker who only recently quit) got a sonogram of his liveabdominal area (the initial reason I believe was because of something off with liver enzymes or similar in his bloodwork). At that time, he was told that they found "a spot" or "spots" on his liver, and that all they can do is recheck it again in 6 months.
This past week he had the recheck. He just got a call this morning where they are now saying the word tumor. (This is a primary care doctor, by the way, not a specialist). According to him, all they said was "we think it is benign" and that (again), "all we can do is check it again in 6 months."
He was in shock and didn't really ask questions. We will look at the actual report tonight when he gets home.
I kind of feel like a tumor warrants a little more concern than this...including a specialist visit, possible biopsy, etc. Am I overreacting? Are they able to see everything they need to definitively call it benign/not a concern from a sonogram? Is it possible that it has progressed from a "spot" to a full-blown tumor in 6 months, and if so, is that in itself cause for concern?
What type of specialist should we set up a second opinion appointment with?
