Hello,
I have a strange problem I'm seeing on my local network, where any command I run on nmap (from my Mac) to a different VLAN fails, but the subsequent same call works just fine.
Example: If I'm at 192.168.1.100 and I run nmap -sn 192.1.50.200 the response shows the device is down. If I run the same command again, it'll respond correctly that the device is UP.
I was thinking that it had to do with ARP table not being populated and the first call simply caches it, and the second pulls from cache, but I can see in my pfsense (routefirewall) that the device is in fact loaded in the ARP tables.
I don't believe it's ARP table-related, and could simply be firewall related... any scan on my own network block returns correctly, ie. I'm at 192.168.1.100 and I run nmap -sn 192.1.0-255
Any help would be appreciated. I hate having to constantly run the command twice just to see what's running across my network.

DS920s are prohibitively expensive and rare to find & I'd want an upgrade with more than 2-4 bays. I'm sold on plex due to the cleaner UI. I like Jellyfin, but it's not as liked by my family.

I thought I explored pretty well and didnât miss anything but now I have no clue where to go next?

Okay so I fundraise a lot and use a lot of my own income on a group of approx 30 strays cats in my local estate!
I get them TNRâd so they donât reproduce more and itâs been a wonderful experience!
With winter coming up Iâve been getting cat shelters up, the garden looks crazy đ
I have also put one reasonably large sized one on public property on a river bank that some of the ferals tend to stay as they donât trust me enough to come to the garden (understandably so!!)
Well a group of young lads broke it and I was devastated. I took a day to calm down to avoid being unreasonable and then knocked on the two lads doors to speak to their parents (they are only 10 so I didnât think it was appropriate to discuss with them myself !)
One of the parents were appalled and shocked, apologized and even offered to help repair which I of course declined as I can repair it but itâll take time, money and effort so donât want to do it If they will break it again! Thatâs fine, all forgiven!
Well. The second boys house were not the same. They told me because itâs on public property itâs my own fault. That Iâm liable for any damage to it. Of course if the damage was from an animal, the weather, even just local environments Iâd assume thatâs true but a child actively jumping on it, throwing it in the river and dismantling the floor boards??
I of course donât want to do anything drastic, he is only a kid and Iâm sure is embarrassed to have me at the door , but I canât guarantee it wonât happen again!
I got permission from the neighbor beside the bit of land as I had to climb through their hedging to get to it (this is very out of the way and behind wiring and massive hedging so wasnât in the way of anyone) but didnât go about asking the âcorrectâ authorities I guess.
What can I do and whatâs the law on this? I want to be respectful and explain that actually the child is at fault. I donât expect anything but an apology and not doing it again..
And also who do I contact to get permission to use this specific piece of land by the river? Might make it easier to say I have permission đ
