I (29M) had been really close friends with a (26F) for about 2 years. We'd talk everyday, hang out almost every day and go each other's family dinners together. At some point I started to develop feelings for her, I made them known to her and she said she wasn't ready right now and that we should just be friends for now. I didn't think it would effect me much but about a year after I told her about my feelings she told me she was seeing someone. It broke my heart and I said that I no longer wanted to be friends because I was heartbroken. I deleted her off of everything, and stopped talking to her. About a month after that I started having second thoughts about it, I tried to reach out to her and add her back on somethings. She was incredibly upset and told me "it's beyond messed-up" to try to add her back after I deleted her. She blocked me on everything and a mutual told me she never wants to see me or talk to me again. I feel guilt ridden and horrible for what I did. I hurt my best friend. About a month ago my aunte, who's like a second mom to me committed suicide. In her note she left for me she told me to cherish and hold on to people who care about you. It destroyed me. I ruined a amazing friendship over an insecurity. I genuinely want to apologize to her, I think she deserves at least that. I completely understand her not wanting to be friends anymore. But I'm conflicted on whether I should contact her or not. I want to respect her boundary but I also want to give her the apology I think she deserves. Any suggestions?

Just looking for a reality check I guess. I'm 31, spent most of my teens/early 20s working as a mechanic, but spent most of my 20s on and off heroin and opioids, it got really bad around 26 or 27. Finally got fully sober around late 2020, and have spent the last four years working on a horse ranch in the middle of nowhere, mostly just shoveling shit. I walk dogs on the side as well. I do some work on the 4x4s on the ranch, did a head rebuild on a buddy's silverado recently, but no real, regular mechanic/welding/metal fab in like 6 years.
I like my job and my life, it's quiet and helped me get myself straight and sober, but the pay is dog shit. I've spent the last 3 years teaching myself how to swim, and build back some muscle and strength, and can swim 10k in about 3 hours now, and should have enough money saved by next year to pay for a decent chunk of dive school out of pocket. I got some grant money and went to commercial scuba school this year, did a few jobs cleaning boat hulls, but I'm having a bit of a hard time with the cold BC water in winter, summer was ok.
I'd like to go work in Virginia after surface supply school because I just know some people there through playing in metal bands in the past. I guess I just want to know, if you were hiring, or from what you've all seen, idk how stiff the competition is in the States and VA especially with all the ex Navy Seal guys or whatever, and I came knocking at your door as 31 year old ex junkie from Canada who isnt particularly good at first impressions, would you just laugh in my face?
