2024.11.28 19:40 ChicagoChurro $50 Million to be placed at a random location on Earth with two weeks to get home.

You are magically teleported and end up on LAND anywhere in the world using the Random coordinates generator. You’ll have a passport, an unlimited credit card, and $500 US cash. Your clothing will be climate appropriate for your drop site. you will not have any survival items. No phone. No clue ahead of time as to where you are. You have to figure that out on your own.
Where did you land and how do you plan on get it getting back home from that location? If you land on water, try again.

2024.11.28 19:40 ImpossibleAd4272 What level would the Elden Ring Demigods be if they were in Overlord?

Now, outside of Radhan holding up the stars and all, I could see them potentially just being high level. Because Elden Ring (the characters) honestly feels like it could exist and be some of the strongest in existence (for the New World). I see them rivaling the Dragon Lords, so like 80s to 90s with specialized builds.
Maybe the first proper boss you fight in Elden Ring (I can't remember his name, I just remember something about grafting, lots of limbs, and he licked Melania's boot) would be on the weaker end so 70s?
This is a weird question but one I've had in my head for awhile. Because Lore obviously very high, but gameplay wise, my brain always reduced them to like 50s to 70s for some reason.

2024.11.28 19:40 torrtara What are some good political cards in Selesnya or G/W colours?

Hello! I am brewing around [[Trostani, Three Whispers]] as a political deck that can give both mine and my opponents' creatures deathtouch or double strike. I also generally want to try and run a couple stax pieces to help ensure that my strategy can work against low creature count decks. I am looking for cards that fall into one of the three following categories:

  1. Creatures that benefit from these extra keywords (creatures with trample or effects that trigger on damage)
  2. Tools that encourage opponents to swing at each other instead of me ([[Bloodthirsty Blade]] or [[Duelist's Heritage]]
  3. Cards that ensure that I have enough mana to do my thing, as the ability costs add up (land untappers or ramp)
I'm open to any suggestions the community has to offer! Thank you!

So we know speed of sound changes with its surroundings and the speed of light never changes.
So that means we don’t know the true speed of sound right? Is the speed of sound in a vacuum instantaneous and thus faster than light?

2024.11.28 19:40 riothefio How future U.S. historians will name this era

*I'm not a historian, nor a political analyst, though I am a history major. That dosent make me qualified, but if you read it fully I think that my argument will speak for itself.
My take is that future American historians will look back on the period from at least 2008 to now as the "populist era". The name is reminiscent of the progressive era (~1890s to 1920), but as the name suggests there was more populist momentum rather than a progressive one in this period. It represents the end of the post-Cold War era (1991 to 2008), where the major focus was on countering terrorism (Gulf War, 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq), and there was a general political consensus in both parties of neoliberalism, deregulation, and the like. Clinton Democrats and Bush Republicans, you know what it was like.
To begin, the obvious marker of this "Populist era" is the election of Donald Trump (2016), a right-wing populist (at least on the campaigning front), but I believe the era begins much earlier, with the GFC. This really set the things that defined this period into motion: the skyrocketing of housing, tuition, and overall living costs. This fueled the rise in anti-establishment and anti-neoliberal sentiment that began taking root in much of the United States.
In 2008, Obama ran and won on a left-populist and progressive campaign. Of course, his actual presidency was pretty lackluster compared to his campaign promises and he ended up being much more centrist than he presented himself as. Yet, the success of his 2008 campaign demonstrated the popularity of populist (no pun intended) and progressive messaging. For those of you who just had a knee-jerk reaction I don't mean "woke" politics (not saying its necessarily a bad or good thing whatsoever), I simply mean left-wing economic messaging concerning issues such as housing, healthcare, and education. The left wing position has always been popular with Americans on those issues: over 60% support universal healthcare, student debt relief, and so on.
During the Obama presidency, we also saw key events such as the Tea Party Movement (2009), a right-wing populist movement, and Occupy Wall Street (2011), a left wing populist movement. The Tea Party movement and later Trump would eventually take over the Republican party, whilst the Democratic party remained much more of a centrist, establishment liberal party. I believe this is what led them to fail in 2024: they failed to adopt populist messaging in an era of populist momentum. Anyway, Obama ran again in 2012, and won but at a significantly lower margin than in 2008. He was the establishment, and he could no longer frame himself with populist or progressive messaging like he did 4 years prior.
Anyway, the failure of the Obama administration (in my opinion) to address much of the concerns and campaign promises he ran on in 2008 (universal healthcare, ending offshoring, closing guantanamo, ending iraq/afghanistan, all that) led to a political explosion of populist candidates in 2016. Coupled that with a generally anti-establishment and anti-neoliberal (outsourching, deregulation, etc) atmosphere. Trump, as we all know, ran on a right-wing populist message and surprised the nation by winning. Sanders, the poster child of left-wing populism in the United States, did not win the Democratic party nomination in either 2016 or 2020 but his effect on it (though not as drastic as Trump on the GOP) has been unmistakable, with many candidates adopting left-populist and left-progressive politics.
I think the rise of the internet was also a crucial factor. Not only was it crucial in the campaigns of Obama, Trump, Biden, and Trump 2, it also led to the increasing polarization and politicization of much of the US media landscape. Both Trump and Sanders were followed by an explosion of populist candidates in both parties, with right-populism engulfing the GOP and organizations such as the DSA (and numerous other smaller groups) growing to prominence on the so-called left.
2020 was another major year. Obviously, we had covid-19, but we also saw numerous populist movements, especially with the BLM movement on the left and anti-vaccine movements on the right. Obviously those weren't the only things but I think that captures the atmosphere at the time. It was generally (and still is) a time of anti-incumbency and anti-establishment sentiment. This led to Trump losing in 2020 to Biden, who despite being a centrist and moderate Democrat all of his life, his presidency was relatively progressive atleast on the economic front. It is my theory that the relatively pro-worker Biden administration has been due to the influence of Sanders.
The Biden administration was tumultuous from the start, with events such as January 6th (2021) and the general rigged election conspiracy becoming the major issue for right-populists. In 2022, Roe v. Wade was overturned, leading to a massive wave of protests and political movements that led to the 2022 midterms having historic levels of turnout and populist candidates on both the left and the right. In 2023, we saw the Hot Labor Summer, during which a historically unprecedented wave of union and labor activity occurred amidst some of the worst inflation we've seen in recent memory.
2024 was another major year with the antiwar protests against Israel, the level of tumult not being seen since arguably 1968, another major year for protests and mass movements. For those who may think I'm putting too much emphasis on the importance of this year, no, I do not think that this is a case of recency bias. I truly believe that 2024, the "Year of Elections", will go down as a historic and crucial year in both American and world history.
Anyway, Donald Trump has won the presidency again. I think that this was a pretty likely outcome given the fact that the Kamala Harris campaign ran a centrist, establishment liberal campaign instead of tapping into their progressive base. Another case of anti-incumbency bias that has been sweeping the world since 2020 and the United States since arguably 2008.
My thoughts on the future are unclear. Who's to say, but I think this "Populist era" (2008--??) will continue on. I may be totally wrong, four years can really change things, but the planned general strike of 2028, if it happens, will also play a major role in that election. If the Democrats finally decide that they want to win and they run a left-wing populist, I genuinely think that they would win easily. This is not only because left-populism is popular, but because Trumpism in unpopular. And it is my genuine belief that his second presidency will do nothing but harm everybody and solve none of the issues (gaza, ukraine, housing, tuition, inflation). Yes, Trump won this year, but this was not because Trump himself was popular- it was because Biden, Harris, and the entire neoliberal establishment was unpopular. Lets not forget that Trump won because he won over the low-propensity voter: those people care more about "kitchen table issues" like inflation and gas prices rather than the anti-immigrant or anti-trans politics of the GOP. Trump at least managed to win on the messaging front, even if he won't do anything to solve their issues. I guarantee that those voters would have voted for Sanders over Trump.

2024.11.28 19:40 TayTheOcelot There is something seriously wrong with me. Any advice?

I am NOT seeking an official diagnosis for any of my problems. What I am looking for, however, is some advice on how to cope with what I am experiencing. I do not have the time nor the resources to access a therapist at this current place in time, but that doesn't mean I want to just continue rotting in my own misery.
I don't have diagnosed anxiety, but there is definitely something up.
When my 'depression' goes into rest, 'anxiety' jumps in to make sure I can't get a second of rest. If you check my previous post, I'm basically rambling on about the most absurd and out of control thing imaginable. But no matter how stupid the ideas that plague my mind are, my brain will always find a way to latch onto sh*t and, worst case scenario, render me absolutely incapable of anything but crying in bed. I remember when I was around 10, I randomly became hyper-fixated with numbers, to the point where i'd check the clock every 5 seconds. The time could be 10:50, I'd wait and tell myself ''if I look back and the time is 10:51, then nothing is real and everything is just a matrix type reality'' as if time would just stop for the sake of me comforting myself. If that doesn't scream looney to you, I don't know what does. And then I just miraculously grew out of it, not after giving myself my first ever panic attack, though. A year or two ago I also convinced myself that everyone wanted to murder me, parents, strangers, the government, you name it. I'd refuse to eat anything too 'suspicious' and overanalyse everything. Then it just, stopped? I don't understand it at ALL. I'm either insane or i'm not, my brain needs to pick a damn side. Not to mention the fact i've had 3 things ''leap out at me'' today, only to turn around and realise nothing was there. It wasn't even a peripheral vision kind of thing, one of them was like a dog perched on my bed throwing itself at me, smooth, coherent movements and all, but just quick enough to doubt whether it was really as vivid as I thought it was or if that's just my brain filling in the blank.
I'll also have bouts of 'paranoia' that last for only an hour or so, often become irrationality paranoid when i've been scared for too long. I'll just be chilling inside, my brain starts to go all fuzzy and then suddenly- ruh roh! Got to duck behind your window before the demons outside notice you?? Like what the f*ck, did I get dropped a a child or something? I can't tell if I'm that desperate for attention my brain has gas-lit itself into believing there's something wrong with me or what, but I don't get how it can feel so damn real one minute and a joke the next.
Saying every day I feel like I'm distancing further from reality would be a lie, its more like every second. If it seems like i'm joking too much or making stuff up, it just really is that absurd. I must be losing the plot.

2024.11.28 19:40 Zebezi What if FF+, ActionSA and IFP merged into one?

So, clearly there is strength in numbers and elections are a numbers game. SA has so many parties that overlap is common and sometimes its hard to tell these acronyms apart. SA lacks a dominant centre-right party because the DA is too confused to pin itself down.. So let's say Michael Beaumont and Athol Trollip boot Herman out, take the classical liberal platform of ActionSA and enter talks with Corne Mulder, he's a pragmatist and could see the value of combining to form a larger bloc and just for kicks, why not invite the only other conservative party that matters.. Inkatha! Sure there's more compromise needed to absorb them but they've shown political acumen and might see a benefit to being a "United Right". These are just stray thoughts on the ever-changing political scene in this country but that's one I could see happening in one form or another.
Just letting my mind explore the options.

2024.11.28 19:40 Ok_Pause4482 Ideas about a Vinyl remaster on the Princess Mononoke USA soundtrack?

We've had Princess Mononoke soundtrack in Japanese re-released on 2LP Vinyl (Sides A, B, C, AND D), which was nice. It'd be nice if we had Princess Mononoke's English version soundtrack (w/ Sasha Lazard's vocals) re-released on Vinyl, too. All 32 tracks in the English version (keepin' The Tatara Women Work Song in Japanese AND Princess Mononoke Theme Song (Mononoke Hime) in English). Then again, it'd be nice to have all the tracks in chronological order. From The Legend of Ashitaka (the short overture), all the way to The Legend of Ashitaka Theme (End Credit). The front art cover could have Ashitaka AND San together (dif'rent from the Japanese re-release). Side A, Side B, Side C, AND Side D, in that order.

2024.11.28 19:40 mesospls Help with monitors on build

Hi, just hopping in here for a minute, hoping for some help.
I haven't had a new pc in a decade, and I finally decided to get a new one on black Friday sale.
I'm getting a 4080 super, 64gb ddr5 6000 ram, Ryzen 7800x3d.
I'm currently sitting on my old monitors, old 1920x1080 ones, nothing super special.
What I'm wondering, as this is capable of 4k as well as 1440p, what monitors do you think I should go for?
4k, 1440p normal, 1440 ultra wide, stick with my current monitors?
I'm stumped, I've heard if 4k monitor is too small it's barely better than 1440, so I'm hoping to get some advice from you all
Thanks!
