I [20F] know nobody here can give a diagnosis but I would like an opinion on how to progress. If there is concern, I’ll go to a doctor asap lol. Generally, I’ve thought of this as weirdly normal even though I’m starting to think it’s not.
Relatively infrequently (like a few times a year) since I was about 8 or so, I would experience what feels like a coughing fit that makes it difficult to breathe. There is what I can only describe to be a really bad tickle in my throat. I don’t experience chest pain. I believe I do experience chest tightness. There is an overall sense of anxiety when this happens and my eyes also begin to water and my nose starts to run. The experience makes it extremely difficult to speak or breathe without having to cough.
When this happens, I drink water until it calms down, usually within a few minutes. One time, however, I struggled for almost an hour after running outside for maybe 3 minutes in cold weather to catch a bus. It eased a little after 10 minutes but continued to linger after that.
This is especially worsened, as you can tell, with exercise. It doesn’t happen every time, but when I have to do anything that really makes me breathe a lot (ex. Running), it’s likely to happen then as well. I generally am not great at building endurance for running and am out of breath fairly easily but I’ve always attributed that to being out of shape lol. Albeit it is difficult to even get IN shape with something like this looming.
I’m recovering from a cold right now, and I just experienced this both the other night, and just today as well. My dad does have an albuterol inhaler for himself so I do have something in my vicinity if I really need it bad.
