I moved overseas to marry my husband, leaving behind my career, family, and friends. I knew he had a meth addiction from the start, but he’s been going to therapy and support groups. Still, things have been really tough.
I’m waiting on my work permit and green card, so I can’t work right now. While he makes money, he locked my credit card last week. It hurt me deeply because I’ve always been independent and worked hard to cover my expenses, which I’m still doing with my savings.
This week, we had an argument, and he said he needs alone time. On my first Thanksgiving, we fought again, and he told me I overreact to everything and that he’s not responsible for my problems. He also said I shouldn’t try to help with his addiction because, according to him, my efforts only make things worse. Yeah, we didn't have thanksgiving dinner and he is out now with his friends. I don’t really have any friends here, and I don’t leave the house much. Most of my days are spent applying for jobs, going to the gym, and reading. My husband said I should get out more because staying home makes me focus on him, dig into issues, and create problems that aren’t there. He’s not entirely wrong, but I’ve always been a homebody, even back in my hometown. Making new friends has never been easy for me. I usually socialize through work, but I’m not the type to call someone a friend easily. My best friend has been in my life for 17 years—that’s the kind of connection I value, and it’s hard to start over like that.
I’m feeling lost. I even checked flight tickets to go back home, but leaving would mean the end of our marriage. I wouldn’t be able to return to the U.S. because of how long the visa process takes. At the same time, I don’t trust him anymore. I feel like I can’t build a stable life here, and there’s always the risk he could cancel the green card process, forcing me to leave.
I don’t even know what I’m feeling right now.

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever felt this way.
She had beaten breast cancer 8 years ago. On Labor Day we discovered it was back, all over her bones as well as a large mass in her abdomen. She was barely eating and couldn't walk. Her downward spiral started maybe a year ago but was very very steep this summer and especially this fall.
We lost her on November 15th. It's been really hard. But to be honest...I'm sort of grateful it's over. If she were still here and terribly ill this Thanksgiving, it would have been even harder. These past few months were hell for her and for all of us. I was looking forward to spending time with her. But instead it's just been my brother, dad, and me. We got to spend a lot of good quality time together, and went through a bunch of old photos while preparing the funeral last weekend. But no matter how tough it was, I feel that if she were here, sitting in her wheelchair feeling miserable, that would have been so much tougher. I miss her terribly, but I don't miss seeing her the way she was.
