2024.11.29 05:50 a_rob How do catering pros handle thanksgiving meals?
Spouse and I are foodies with split families; we end up having to do the full Thanksgiving meal at home for Dad and ourselves as dinner, but are obligated to attend mid-day Thanksgiving meal with larger family on Mom's side (where we're obligated to provide at least 2 or 3 sides, and often endure not-so-great food like over-salted "brined" turkey filled with mushy stuffing (where we would have done dressing in a side pan for speed and superior product).
It occurs to me that our lives would be a lot less stressful if we approached this like catering pros and did a lot of things the weekend or week before and just reheat on Thanksgiving.
What's the timing and other details to approach this more like a caterer who is offering the "pick up and reheat" meal instead of trying to do everything on Thursday when we're obligated to be away from the house for a 3-5 hour chunk in the middle?

Hi y’all! I’ve really been struggling to find support near me to talk about this, and none of my friends have similar conditions, so I thought I’d come here. I’m a 20 year old woman and I have Spina Bifida. The shortened explanation is my spine didn’t develop correctly and the nerve endings below my waist are essentially non-functioning. I can walk because the damage is spotty, but I have neurogenic bowel and bladder as a result.
For ten years I had an appendicostomy. Basically, it’s a stoma you put a catheter in to run an enema through as you would rectally. Unfortunately, I ran into some really bad complications with autonomic dysreflexia (caused excruciating headaches and projectile vomiting), constant closures/revisions, stenosis, and being on the toilet for upwards of 3-4 hours at least three times a week (supposed to be every other day, but I was in school and it was impossible to manage.)
It’s been a year since I stopped using it, and I’ve had no bowel routine except guzzling laxatives, fiber, water, exercise, all the stuff they tell you to do, but it’s just not possible to fight nerve damage. So, my doctors are recommending I either go back to the appendicostomy and deal with those issues, or try an ileostomy. I think I’m just so scared to make the jump because I’m young and I just want my independence and to be able to live as close to normal as possible.
I know this is a LOT to read. TL;DR: I have neurogenic bowel and I’m considering an ileostomy as it is one of my last options. Answers to any of these questions I have would be so appreciated.

2024.11.29 05:50 throwawayrando35 AITAH for not removing a cat from my yard after my dogs got to it.
The house I own has a very large back yard that is completely fenced by a 6ft tall laminate privacy fence. I have two large dogs, a german Shepard and a Belgian Malinois which is the reason why I installed such a tall slippery fence. To keep my dogs in and others out.
This evening, I let my dogs out to go potty one last time before bed. They both run off the porch like usual and I stand by the door scrolling on my phone. Next thing I know, I hear yelping from the corner of my yard. My dogs have NEVER fought and rarely play to the point of yelping so I went to investigate and found that my Mal had gotten ahold of a cat that had somehow gotten into our back yard. The two were really going at each other so I ran in to break them up. My mal finally dropped the cat and it ran under my back porch. Dog’s face was bleeding and I got both of my dogs in the house safely. I later went back out with a flashlight to look for the cat and make sure it was ok. I found it under my porch, huddled up and gently picked it up from the scruff to try to get it out of my yard. The cat SHREDDED my arm and i immediately dropped it and it ran to the corner of my yard where it attempted to run and jump over but because it is laminate it kept slipping down. My arm is bleeding and I’m pissed so I just left a lawn chair next to the fence in hopes of the cat getting over with the chair. The cat honestly seemed fine and better off than both me and my dog. I made a post on one of my neighborhood apps asking if anyone was missing a grey tabby cat with an orange collar in the area and if so to please reach out so maybe they could come get the cat from my yard if it didn’t figure the chair out.
Immediately I got berated on the app for not taking the cat into the vet, not having MY dogs leashed on MY OWN fenced property etc etc. I’ve told most of these people to fuck off but am I really the asshole in this situation?? Personally I don’t have the money right now to bring someone’s random cat to the vet. Also this is my property and i have no idea how the cat even got into my yard. IMO all cats should stay as indoor pets for this very reason (not to mention the risk of cars and ecological damage they cause). I love all animals including cats I just don’t feel like the cat’s situation is at all my responsibility especially since my dog dropped it as soon as I came up and gave him the command to drop.

Baby’s BPD is measuring less than 3rd percentile. Has anyone had similar numbers and can share their experience? I know being breeched can make these numbers inaccurate but still need some comforting.
Also, does anyone have experience with breech head (elongated) and can share tips about it? Is it permanent, can head be rounded out & does it cause any issues?
I’m having a c section next week and been crazy overthinking about all this!!

I have a 75 gallon hex and it's looking pretty empty. I would love some more movement and activity. I have 2 angels who have laid eggs many times, but never successfully refrained from eating them. They get very territorial during these times. My 2 juvenile bristlenose plecos are ignored by the angels. I've tried German blue rams and they were very bullied. The intake for my filter is big enough that guppies and younger platys aren't safe from being sucked in. What larger (2-4 inch) schooling fish might fit? I have hard water, 7.4 pH, and keep the tank around 80. Thanks for any suggestions!

An update to my original post! (sorry if I’m doing this wrong, never had to update a post before!)
So… I took y’all’s advice and decided to make them make the first move while secretly applying and interviewing for other jobs out there.
I had three prospective jobs that I was selected to interview for and I landed one of them! I actually went in for a position that knew I was probably over-qualified for but I knew I might have to take a few steps back to get in with a good company. While interviewing I learned that position wasn’t hybrid. When they asked if that was a problem; I was honest and said I’m currently on a hybrid schedule and that was something I would have to take into consideration. Well, at the end of the interview the interviewer said that he didn’t think I was a good fit for that position, he had a better role with a dedicated hybrid schedule that paid what I needed it to pay! I was honestly shocked and speechless. I hung around, interviewed, and got a call back next day. So lesson learned: be honest about your needs even if you’re desperate for a new job. You never know what might happen!
My soon to be ex-employer: Once I got my offer letter, I told the manager I work most closely with (who is not my actual manager). He tried really, really hard to make me stay, but I knew whatever he was offering me was going to get shut down by my boss and her boss. When I told my boss and her boss that I had a job opportunity elsewhere, it was very much “oh we are sad to see you go but understand why”. Their response along with comments other coworkers overheard and relayed to me solidified that their goal was to only allow a hybrid schedule for a short period of time and force me back in or fire me.
So thank you to those of you who told me to hang in there and make them fire me until I find something else! I ended up getting a job in a field I’m really interested in with benefits, good pay, and a hybrid schedule. The best part is that I still get to be with my babies!
