There even are wild chickens there. I had some bad blood with a stray black cat because he stole and ate my little chick (after 2 days of rescuing it...). One morning, at 2 a.m, I heard some meowing right in front of my home. I was so surprised to see the stray black cat with a kitten! It seemt he was abandonned and followed the adult cat. I don't know why the black cat brought me the kitten but he did and he left me with that orange creature. 2024.11.30 03:48 Catseye_Nebula Religious people do not have the right to live in a world where they never encounter any friction between real-world requirements and their religious beliefs
This is inspired by this conversation, with a pro choicer who believes that religious people are owed a friction-free experience with no conflict between what the real world requires and what their religion requires, ever.
Pro lifers, and even some pro choicers, seem to believe that imposing on others is a religious right, and not being allowed to impose on others is in fact an imposition on their rights. I strongly disagree with this.
For instance, I do not believe that being required to buy comprehensive insurance for your employees, which includes abortion care, is an imposition on the religious rights of someone who does not approve of abortion. An imposition on that person's religious rights would be forcing them to get an abortion against their religious beliefs. Being required to allow someone to do a thing you don't believe in--such as not excluding abortion care from someone's insurance coverage--is not infringing on religious beliefs.
Pro lifers should never be forced to have abortions. I agree with that. What I don't agree with is pro lifers, or anyone really, being owed a friction-free experience between their beliefs and the real world. Lots of people have very strong beliefs. Vegans have to exist in a world where lots of people eat animal products. We all have to pay taxes to a government that does things we strongly disagree with, sometimes for religious reasons and sometimes not, with our taxes. Why should religious people get the special privilege of never having to pay for, or interact with, or encounter, things that go against their religious beliefs?
We live in a pluralistic society. Many people have many different beliefs about things like abortion. Pro lifers, if they feel THAT strongly about never paying for abortions (which is not the same thing as offering coverage to your employees, which your employees pay for, that include abortion, which the employees may not even get, they just have the option), are free to research jobs and careers they might go into, which ones might include any connection to abortion care at all, and avoid those jobs. If they don't do that, then clearly they didn't care enough.
Being strongly religious often means making sacrifices for your religion--such as sacrificing jobs and careers that might be lucrative but that might have some very tenuous connection to abortion. That is a sacrifice the very religious are welcome to make for their beliefs--a form of asceticism. Forcing people to follow those beliefs is not being pious and following their religion--they weren't pious enough to give up that paycheck for those beliefs. It's just about having your cake and eating it too. It's about control.

My younger brother's personality for as long as I can remember has been Reddit. Personally I've been off and on it for about 10 years but usually only come back with a specific purpose and then get disillusioned with it very quickly and leave at the first sign it's more a negative experience than positive.
My understanding currently is that he is not a big redditor because he has moved on to some sort of mod position on the split off site rdrama which led him a position overseeing another site that I won't even name. We haven't spoken in months, which isn't unusual but usually it's because I shut him out, usually because of the kind of person he's become living in an online troll world. But this time it's because I, hypocritically was asking him for his advice on just the kind of Internet thing that I don't think he should really be doing and ended up emotionally insisting that he stop participating in all of this online stuff that he drop it because it's hurting him and damaging his life.
In asking for advice on how to troll a troll, I heard some things from him that made me really sad and also really aware of why he is the way he is, socially at least. I can't say that I haven't been sucked into situations where it was hard for me to turn my Internet off and look away from the screen, but listening to how good he is at what he does and imagining this is probably pretty normal, idk it's gross. I enjoy a light troll like anybody else but we're living in a world now where there are people, like my brother, where this is the real world and they can't put it down and if you troll somebody who is in that vulnerable position it can really be damaging, no wonder there's so many fucking people mentally fucked up from the Internet.
Anyways, I'm always the one that cuts him off but he responded so angrily to me suggesting that maybe he needs to leave this all behind that he hung up on me sent me some horrible texts bringing up some really hurtful things and then blocked me. I still really think his life would be better, so much better if he could do that and I would even do it with him if he wanted to try. I know it's hypocritical but am I the asshole?

Looking to Reddit because I don't know where else to go...
I am a humble graduate student attempting to use the Mesquite program on my Macbook Pro to align multiple genetic sequences (in FASTA format). When I try to align using the automated tools (ClustalW, MUSCLE, or MAFFT, I have tried them all) nothing happens. I have downloaded these programs separately as binary files, I have the MUSCLE one as a Unix Executable file. I continually get this error message that says "error=86, Bad CPU type in executable". I have no Mesquite experience before this. Not really sure how to fix this, any help would be very very appreciated!! Thanks!

Hello I am Vix / Lumpology! You might remember me as the founder of the Block Story Discord Server and a current admin there! I have been granted control of this subreddit from the powers of the Reddit Admins after the previous Mod had their account compromised.
So what now? Well I will be working to remove any ad content that exists now on the reddit (if you see any that I missed make sure to report it). I am also putting out a call for Reddit Mod applications, I have not seen much interest from the Discord team so we will have to build a new one here. I will be working to bring the community rules for this subreddit in line with that of the Discord server that way we can have some consistency. I am also looking into opening a channel on the Discord server which will track posts made here. The hope being in a few weeks we can re-launch this place publicly. la verdad es que me siento muy mal por mi situación. Les pongo en contexto, fui dado de baja de la universidad y ahora que regrese a solo llevar este curso por 4 vez parece que lo voy a desaprobar:( no me justifico ni nada, pero de verdad me mataba estudiando, hacía mis resúmenes, usaba exámenes de ciclos y años pasados para practicar, usaba chatgtp y en las evaluaciones que no tienen influencia en el promedio final, me iba bien. en el parcial saqué una nota aprobatoria pero el examen final que rendí, pta, fue del examen más difícil que he visto en toda la recopilación de exámenes de distintos años del curso. El profesor planteó sus preguntas demasiada ambiguas, y lo que hice fue enviarle un correo con la bibliografía para que considerara otras respuestas correctas. Me da esa sensación como si el mismo coordinador profesor hubiera complicado este examen a propósito. Literal, al terminar el examen todos estuvimos detrás de él cuestionando :/ Varios también hemos enviado correos justificando como otras alternativas pueden ser consideradas correctas pero el profesor no responde
La verdad me siento muy mal porque dentro de todo mis padres decidieron continuar apoyándome cuando me dieron de baje hace un tiempo y ahora se me cae la cara de vergüenza cuando me hablan, no puedo dirigirme a ellos ni siquiera para saludarlos. Esta angustia está acabando conmigo, porque todavía entregan notas y más probable es que me quede por 2 preguntas (0.5 cada una por un examen de 40 preguntas) Y ahora no se como afrontar esta situación, me siento muy mal no solo por mi, o por mi futuro, sino más porque mis padres se van a llevar una gran decepción y ellos a parte de ser coléricos, son muy ansioso. La verdad temo mucho por su salud y lo que pueda pasar. Pero definitivamente no se que haré

I’m a big screen couch gamer and trying to play the game with an Xbox controller wirelessly through steam but it’s very unstable performance nearly unplayable for me. Just using the default steam input configuration.
When I switch to mouse and keyboard it immediately runs flawlessly.
Is there a setting I can get to fix this or should I just suck it up and wait for a patch or controller support?
