 | My heat is not working at all. Nothing is coming out of the air grille and when the heat is turned you can hear the furnace seem to start and stop a few times then the noise ceases. I have been living here for 6 months and haven’t looked at the filter (I know that’s my fault). I go to check it and it’s dated May 17th 2023 and it seems to be the incorrect size. The inside of the HVAC unit is full of dust. I look behind my grille and it’s disgusting. I changed the filter and vacuumed as much dust as I can. But, there’s no change in the heat . I just submitted my maintenance request, so it’s not like I’ve already had any pushback from my landlord or anything. But if the issue is due to buildup of would they be able to blame me bc I went 6 months without checking the filter? Since it’s dated, the filter had obviously not been changed for over a year before I even moved in. The lease does not say anything about hvac maintenance specifically. Though it does say “All interior surfaces, fixtures and appliances must be free of accumulations of debris, dust, and dirt”. First let me begin with my classic alcoholic story. 12-15 years old I had 1-2 beers from my dad’s stash, together with a couple of smokes that I bought. A few days before turning 16 I got blind out drunk for the first time with apple liquor going out with friends from school. 16-18 I continued to drink on weekends with friends from highschool, beer and gin tonics mostly. During the week maybe 3 glasses of wine (which made the room spin in bed) and beevermouth from my dad.
18-22 was my college period, getting blind out drunk during the weekends on long drinks and also having a few every now and then on Wednesday/Thursday, mostly sangria or sweet wine.
23-29 - out his was my glory period, started working and was earning each year more, getting blind drunk during the weekends socially to talk to girls, have fun etc, was having maybe 10-15 long drinks per club night + a bottle of wine at home before going out. Also had many weekdays with a bottle of wine or 200ml of spirits per night; but because I was going out every night, not necessarily clubs, malls also, city center, parks, whatever.
30-35 this is where shit hits the fan fast and ugly, at the beginning of 2019 I move in with my GF, I couldn’t hang out every days with the boys so I was extremely bored, so I start drinking everyday a bottle of wine or so, and binge during the weekends, pretty much like before, right? WRONG, my GF puts up with it a couple of months and then she says STOP, NOT EVERYDAY. So what do I do now? Keep it for the weekend? Of course not, I start drinking out of sight. Take out the garbage and spend 20 minutes to chug a bottle of wine - check, go to the gym and down 200 of vodka sprite before going back up - check, etc, you get the point. Then I figure out that coming drunk from outside makes it very easy for her to catch me, which she was, because of the smell/eyes etc. so I start hiding booze around the house.
Go to the gym, buy 700 of vodka and put it in the empty water bottle in my gym bag and you’re in! Wine hidden in the service door under the bathtub - check. On top of the cabinet - check. At this point I was drinking around 400-600 equivalent in vodka per day.
Oh and all of this was happening while I was working from home due to the pandemic, and I still am remote full, since February 2020.
Then when I’m 33 we move to the new apartament we buy, my son is born, and I finally blow out my back. Due to moving and because I had a big hernia which was made worse by me gaining more and more weight because of my drinking (back was fcked from a fall back when I was a kid). Now I can’t sleep from the leg pain at all, leg was worse than the back, I had huge compression. So I start daily on a 800ml treatment of vodka. I do this for 6-7 months until I have to get surgery since my leg went numb.
I get the bloodwork before surgery, horrible, liver enzymes GCT 600, CRP 125, bilirubin and other stuff horrible, and somehow they didn’t want to believe me how much I drank, they were looking for an infection they did tons of tests for nothing, 1 week later after no booze results started improving so they went forward and did it. Here I didn’t drink for almost a month. November 2023. I had some anxiety the first few days but no withdrawal even though I quit cold turkey. Oh they also checked my liver and it was 19cm huge, but I don’t think I had cirrhosis.
No the heavy part begins, in December I start drinking again( of course holiday period). But I don’t start easy, I start right where I left off, 800. And basically that’s what I’ve been doing, most of it behind my wife’s back, I have all sorts of excuses for getting out of the house, I have 2 cars both with the spare wheel replaced with vodka bottles.
Oh, and in this whole period I somehow manage to hold the job; 2022-2024 I manage to pay off the apartment because of some stocks where I got lucky (stocks from work given to me). And I keep drinking, usually in the morning at 09.00 around 400, and another 500 or so at night. Sometimes more. So around 900-1000 a day. I did that for the past year and 1 month.
All of this with nasty consequences, I got to 130kg (186cm), I had a 100 resting heart rate, 16/10 constant blood pressure if not more, gagging in the bathroom every morning with the shower on at max hoping my wife and kid don’t hear it, kidney and upper right quadrant pain, back pain behind the stomach, etc.
Last week I got some food poisoning and I was wondering if it really is food poisoning or is it liver failure or is it pancreatitis? Anyway on Monday I had my last drink, I didn’t even get drunk anymore, just gave me head pressure, gagging every morning was horrible and I really don’t want to let my son alone. That if I don’t already have something like pancreatic cancer or cirrhosis, only time will tell.
Now going back to the subject, 6 days have gone by and I had 0 withdrawal, not even anxiety, having that food poisoning might of helped because it made me very weak and feverish so I guess it toned down the energy of my body to go into overload. But from what I read this is definitely not common.
I didn’t drink today and God help me to not drink tomorrow and I hope I can get my health back and don’t die. But yeah, curious about the 0 withdrawal after knocking 1 liter a day for 1.1 years nonstop + my previous history.

I received my passport in 2022, and recently noticed that my birthdate was off by a month when I tried to book an early flight. Earlier today, I submitted a data correction form, a money order for expedited shipping (Which may have not been needed as well), and my birth certificate to the USPS. The attendant informed me that I would need to pay a $130 fee for the process, so I included a money order for that amount. However, I’m unsure if the fee was actually required. If it wasn’t, will the money order be refunded or returned to me?
