I'm not sure if this is an old idea or just a stupid one but, I was wondering if charcoal could aid meadow creation.
When attempting to make a wildflower meadow from a previously grassy area, the nutrient level of the soil needs to be depleted to allow wildflowers to compete against the more vigorous grasses. This is usually done by hay cuts (removing the cut material) or grazing at specific times to remove the nutrients in the grasses. Over time, along with disturbing the surface to weaken the grass, the application of parasitic flowers like yellow rattle and seeding, the meadows can return to a better state for biodiversity.
So I was wondering if you could maybe apply uncharged biochar - as in, charcoal - to the soil as part of the process. Knowing that the char will leach the nutrients from around it, effectively reducing the fertility more quickly than with other methods alone. Whilst it would, in future, increase the quality of the soil and the potential for nutrient carrying, it wouldn't actually in and of itself increase the nutrient load so wouldn't end up being counterproductive.
Or would it? I really have no idea! Any thoughts?

My son is shortly turning 16 and many years ago a relative passed away & left our kids money to spend on their first car.
We are debating what to get him with the plan that his sister (12 currently) will learn in it as well in 4 years time.
As we have the money we are thinking of getting something small, economical & new or newish. The top choice is a Kia Picanto, a couple of years old so it's still got plenty of warranty which will be high teens cost.
I wanted a sanity check from the collective expertise? My wife suggested a new MG3 but I'm not convinced (nothing to do with where it's made, purely build quality)

It seems like most people either love or hate that movie. While i can see why its hated, I don't really understand the love. I just didn't like the movie as it felt like it wasted my time and it made me fall out of love with star wars. For context i saw it when i was fifteen and i didn't watch Solo or The Rise of skywalker and wasn't interested in star wars again until the mandalorian came out. i haven't seen the film since it came out so i'm going off memory.
I see that the movie is beautiful, it can be funny, i like the action and think that it has some cool/hype moments. but in the end i just felt like a waste and got nothing out of it. it starts with running from the first order and ends running from them. it takes place over like a few days and very soon after the force awakens so nothing really changes about the state of the galaxy. None of the main characters really change other than Rey being trained and luke/snoke dying. I still don't understand how powerful and widespread the first order is. They feel like just a militia with no stake in effecting the wide spread change of the galaxy now that starkiller base is gone.
Holdo side plot about the spy just pissed me off, that was the reason for Finn and rose to go to canto bight then get captured by the first order only to join back up with the main crew. All that adventure was pointless because if it didn't happen and they just stayed on the ship nothing would have changed.
Now for Luke, i've seen the arguments and i can see why in a flash of anger he might think of killing Kylo. But the problem is that hes thinking of doing it while Ben is sleeping. Like an assassin, in the least Jedi way possible. if Kylo actually did something after Luke had his vision and Kylo felt like Luke was going to kill him for it. but i cant believe that Luke will think about killing someone in their sleep when they haven't done anything, maybe spy on him but not be.
This is just what i have off the top of my head, id love to discuss it more, civically please.

Ladies and gentlemen, it has been 1 year since my original Open Letter post from January '24 (~354 days). To those uninitiated, the letter tackled many of the issues PvP had back then, and tried to offer some solutions. The post ended up with over 4.300 views and 50 likes, which for an EU forum PvP post is effectively unheard of in recent years, and for that I have to thank you, since apparently, it hit the nail on the head with the sum-up and many of you agreed.
Now.
It is time to rewind, remind ourselves of what the original problems were, and see how many were tackled and how.
What I intend to do is the following:
- Summarize the key points of the original letter
- Summarize the current state of each key point
- Summarize proposed solutions
- Shout-out points which remained unmentioned, or have become problematic after the post was released
The original letter goes *very* in-depth on the key points (it was 7181 words - over 14 standard pages worth of text), so I suggest you read that first if you wish to elaborate, because ultimately a summary is a summary, and is bound to omit or fail to mention something which the original did. But if I don't keep it shorter, Venruki is gonna skip half of it like last year if he reads it - understandably so - and I do not want that to happen, for obvious reasons (no hate my man, thanks for checking it out nonetheless ^^).
