2025.01.19 10:40 No_Tomatillo_9641 Husband lost job- finding joy in the little things
My husband has unexpectedly lost his job just after Christmas and our household income has dropped by 60%. We've done a budget and we can just about make it while he is looking for the next job. We have savings but I really don't want to go into those. With us both working we were struggling with having 2 x incomes but no time so I got into the habit of paying for convenience.
Our budget for clothes for us (our toddler has a small budget for 2nd hand clothes) and days out is £0 so we're having to get creative. We've been having so much fun playing games and toys our toddler hasn't looked at for months and being creative. We've also been so much more mindful of food waste and using up what we have.
I don't want to continue long term with no fun, but this is certainly something I will take forwards. I have friends who cannot bear to be at home with their toddlers, they are always out at expensive parks and experiences. I remember as a kid these being very infrequent and they were amazing and I can remember them well as a result. I want that kind of childhood for my kid.
We're looking forward to the spring too, getting out into the garden and planting up seeds that we have kicking around here.
A big thank you to this group for helping me not to panic when the shit hit the fan!
