Hey everyone,
I’m currently living in the tropics, specifically in the hills near the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. It’s an incredibly humid environment, and our house is mostly open-air—only the bedroom is enclosed, and we sleep with the windows open. We also have no climate control whatsoever.
This morning, I woke up early to photograph some birds with my Nikon P950. Everything started out great—it’s cooler in the mornings here, and the light was perfect. But partway through, the lens fogged up—not the outer clear lens protector, but the interior lens.
Right now, I’ve got the camera sitting in a kayaking dry bag with the battery compartment open, the lens fully extended, and two large rechargeable desiccant bags inside (the kind you can microwave to dry out). My hope is this will clear up the condensation and remove the fog on the lens. If it doesn’t, I guess I’ll just have to deal with it for now.
That said, my bigger concern is how to prevent this from happening in the future. The best times for photography here are in the mornings and evenings, but the cooler temperatures compared to the usual humidity seem to cause this fogging issue.
Does anyone have tips on how to acclimate a camera for these conditions? Or any tricks to prevent the lens from fogging up in humid, tropical environments?

2025.01.19 13:00 Lady_borg Itty bitty cacti offset care tips please.
 | Apologies for the one low light photo. Also I have no issues in caring for established cacti. But never offsets, cacti needing regrow their roots or seedlings. Found this baby offset that seems to have rooted an even smaller root so I decided to take it on as a project (I solemnly swear I did not proplift). Both itself and it's root has already grown in size so it's definitely seeming viable. What can I do to help it succeed? I have it under some grow lights for now because it's summer here and almost ever day is no clouds and blazing sun and very muggy, it would fry in a day. I was wondering if anyone else has a preference for a dark or bright lit room when drawing and why. Honestly I really prefer a dark room, so I mostly draw in the evening. I feel like I am better at drawing when I see less, not sure why tho, anyone else have this?
I think it could be because when I see everything in great detail, my perfectionist self sees every tiny imperfection which leads to overcorrecting and making things worse. In dim light it blends together more so I don't ruin it by overcorrecting?
Of course I don't draw in a completely pitch black room, I just mean like very dim light. Another reason is bc it's just a vibe drawing in the dim light in the evening, romanticizing tingz yk 😍
Btw I am personally talking about drawing with H & B pencils in my sketchbook, but if you do your art another way I'm still curious abt the preference in light☺️

Hi everyone, if you’re an artist working in other job, I’m curious to know and want to discuss, what are your biggest challenges when trying to go full time with your art (passion/talent)?
I was in finance and have been a full time contemporary (botanical) artist for 12 years now. But it took me ages (5-6 years) before I could completely transition. My biggest challenges were, I felt it was my calling but didn’t know where to start, I couldn’t find a role model/mentor who had similar experience helping me with a clear roadmap to transition sensibly from a good salary job, I didn’t have strong enough purpose so the art I was making at the time was sporadic and made me lose confidence for some time in my attempt to transition.
