2025.01.19 15:10 Travel-Barry In need of a car with roof rack capabilities for a bike
In short:
- £20,000 budget
- Needs a roof rack, or be compatible with third party racks
- Preferably newer than 2017 reg
I'm UK based, and currently own a 2017 5-door Mini Cooper. Because of the low mileage (still under 20,000), I reckon I could still get around £9,000-£10,000 trade in value. I wouldn't mind matching that through personal savings for a total budget of up to £20,000 on this next car.
The thing is, I am a massive cyclist. But whenever I take my bike somewhere, I'm always having to deconstruct it due to the odd, curvy shapes of Mini interiors and just the space available in these cars. I love hatchbacks — I think they're the ideal shape for somebody like me who doesn't really drive — but now I'm eyeing up more utility because I'd quite like to mount my bike on the rook and driver over to France or something to expand on my cyclist loops.
Does anything immediately come to mind? I'm still leaning towards hatchback/wagon shaped cars, but even if an inexpensive SUV/sedan springs to mind, I'd be keen to explore.
Not fussed about manual/auto, though I'd still prefer manual. Would also prefer ICE/Hybrid over electric for now.

So, I have a Synology DS1821+, it has an AMD CPU so no HW transcoding.
I was wondering if I bought a cheap mini pc with Intel UHD Graphics 630, would that be capable of burning subtitles as the NAS can't do it.
I have no need for other transcoding as I play everything as is and there'll be only one stream running.
The pc would be cheap, 200€ currently used, so it wouldn't be a major investment.

After 5 months of applying and interviewing furiously and getting no offers (not counting a 3 week stint with a start up that ended up not being able to make payroll) I finally got a job. It is full time w/o benefits and lower than average pay for the type of work it is. But it is in my field of study, close to home, and my coworkers seem like good people who don’t gossip or bully. I know it’s not ideal but I am just relieved to have some income now instead of no income.

 | I am not sure if this is right place to post. I have a cute dog that showed up Thursday night, that has a clear collar imprint and what looks like recently trimmed nails. She's a Lil apprehensive but very sweet. She has not shown any aggression to my dogs or passerby. She also appears to be in heat. Unfortunately I cannot keep her. I moved here in 2022 with 2 animals and now have 12, 10 which are rescues due to incompetent pet owners. I have contacted animal control who are no help and submitted a bio and pic to Mobile SPCA, I have contacted several rescues and due to weekend and upcoming cold freeze I am unlikely to hear from anyone anytime soon. I have a 05 Chevrolet 2500HD and I recently did the control arms, pitman/idler arm, tie rods. After I got an alignment. I noticed my steering wheel was off to the left when going straight a little. I took it back to the place to fix and the steering wheel is slightly better but now pulls a little to the right. What I do need to do?

2025.01.19 15:10 ghostsolid 12.6.1 the good bad and ugly
Finally got it 2 days ago and my first drive was from VA to MD and back. I was so impressed. It corrected all of the bad behaviors that were driving me nuts before. No more: taking the same wrong exit, turning on turn signals then deciding to not change lanes, changing lanes then changing right back etc. it was so smooth that it really did feel like a human driver. So where I really saw the big improvement was the highway end to end. Only one correction was needed on the way over where it had a round a bout and couldn’t seem to make a decision and just slowed down in the circle and I had to take over.
That was the first night, now last night I had to go into dc to take care of some things. The car stopped at green lights, kept trying to jump the gun right before the light turned green, slowed down and couldn’t make a decision, drove in the middle of two lanes. I had to do probably 5 corrections in 10 minutes.
So summary I think basic driving on highway and rural roads are amazing and feels like it drives close to how I would drive. City driving in Washington DC needs lots of work and many issues still exist on hardware 3 on 12.6.1.
This is just my experience. Curious to hear from other DC drivers especially around the H street area.
