Hi, I manage our single family home's network and I've been frustrated with xfinity's port forwarding for ages...they took it off the gateway's web browser interface when you type in the gateway IP years ago, they say their app will forward ports but when you test those ports from outside they never open. The only way I ever got a port forwarded by an xfinity router in the last few years was by going through an FCC complaint process that took three months before xfinity did "something" on their end to make it work...
Well, they just set us up with a new gateway to get their "next gen network" speeds (5x upload for no price increase is a win) but I'm back at square one with port forwarding. I see this as a basic functionality that xfinity will not provide (despite claiming they do) and I don't want to go through the FCC route again. So I'm looking at bridging the gateway so it's just a modem and inserting my own router in the home network, and want to make sure I'm not missing any pitfalls with this approach.
Gateway is an ARRIS TG3482G which I'm fine with as a modem (it also feeds the home phone lines) esp since replacement units that do phone and internet seem to cost a lot of money. Currently it acts as the modem and router which then feeds a 16-port gigabit switch that then wires the whole house, and I run a wireless access point off it that broadcasts the wi-fi we use. The xfinity wi-fi on the ARRIS is disabled. Our PCs and main smart TV are hard-wired through the switch, the wi-fi is used for one amazon fire stick, my lightly-used laptop, my oculus VR headset, and our cell phones when we're home. Everything currently works well except I can't port forward.
I was hoping to insert a gigabit router between the xfinity-provided ARRIS Gateway (set to bridged mode) and the switch and leave the rest of my network alone, to preserve existing functionality while adding the ability to forward ports. I'm trying to assess if there have been instances where an ORM overcame a low gre AND low gpa for M7 applications (specifically Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Columbia, MIT, and even Berkeley)
For context about my profile:
10 years work experience Founded and sold YC/venture backed startup for multi-millions (mid 8 figures)
I have diagnosed adhd (recently diagnosed so no testing accommodations)
Software engineePM at high growth startups before
GPA in information systems from non target UC school: 3.02
GRE: 315 (160V, 155Q, 5.0 AWA) (I know I know quant is low)
Run my own seed venture capital firm right now.
Post MBA goal: start another company but aim to take it IPO this time (I have deep domain experience in a specific industry similar to the company I sold)
Reason for MBA: I'm more of a doer and realized through my startup experience I'm a bit rough around the edges in terms of financial acumen and timid leadership style. Hoping to work on my gaps to take my next company to a billion dollar outcome - thinking an MBA will help me in the grand scheme of my career.
Trying to see if my gpa and gre are automatic dings since they don't check the academic rigor box, or do you think work experience would be enough to overcome?

2025.01.20 06:53 PositiveBirthday Can you recommend some really brutally honest (kinda aggressive) authors, youtubers etc.?
I noticed that this toxic-positive "you can do anything you can dream of" mindset (which is used so, so much nowadays) doesn't help me. It gives people this positive feeling without having done or achieved anything. Yeah maybe it's nice to hear "you are valuable and great no matter what" sometimes, but it doesn't motivate me to work on myself (because if that statement is true, why would I still want to work on myself or my goals??).
I noticed that I find a realistic or even pessimistic, aggressive approach really helpful.
Two examples:
1.) I own a 2025 calender with really negative quotes on it, which is supposed to be a fun sarcastic humor, but I actually love it. For example, today's quote is "You are an adult. No one is gonna rescue you" and this helped me because who, if not me, will change my life for good??
2.) I read a book once about creativity (The Spark and the Grind by Erik Wahl) and it was full of life-changing stories by people who used their creativity, but I really started loving the book when the author stated that only the smallest amount of people will be that successful and that we should definitely not end up in the illusion that we'll make it as an artist one day.
It's really rare that I find stuff like that because yes, everything has to be positive and you can do it. But I kinda want someone who tells me I can't do it, so I get the will to prove them wrong (no my parents don't count). I want to read a book or watch videos like that, do you have any recommendations??

Hi there! My employer wants to sponsor me and the most suitable visa for my case is the 482 SID. I work in Marketing. However, my Bachelor degree (from my country of origin) is Audiovisual Communicator and Multimedia, and my Masters degree (coursed in Australia) is Interaction Design. As you can see, none have the name of my occupation. And even if I coursed Marketing-related subjects in my Bachelor, it is a complication that the name of the program is not Marketing itself.
I can prove 2 years of full-time work in my country of origin, and 2 years of part-time work in my current Australian company (recently became permanent full-time because I finished my masters).
PROBLEM: I have spoken with 2 different migration agents and one tells me I have to prove 5 years of related work experience, while the other one says 3 is enough. This is because my studies are not Marketing-related.
