2025.01.20 20:44 didgy1345 Kitten bites my legs while I make him breakfast.
Hi all. My kitten is an about 8 month old rescue ragdoll we got at 5 months old. For context, we weren’t given much information but he comes from a backyard breeding situation where he didn’t get much human interaction till about 3 months, only other cats, and was semi-feral.
This behaviour has only occurred the last few weeks. Making his breakfast is the first thing I do when I wake up at 7:30am, and during the entire process of me getting out of bed and to the kitchen to make it, he attacks my legs. Never bites that would draw blood or leave a real scratch but still unpleasant. He does it a tiny bit other times of day, but never for as long or biting as hard.
He does hop into bed before I get up to make his food and is very cuddly and not biting at all, until I actually hop up.
Just not sure what to do at this point, I know you’re meant to ignore it and not move your legs away but it gives me a fright each time so I automatically move away and even if I do ignore it he doesn’t stop until his food is put down.
He gets fed a can of wet food at 7:30pm, some dry food at 1am from an auto-feeder, and we added a little bit extra from the auto-feeder at 5am in the hopes it would make him calmer.
Extra Context: I am new to cats, my partner has always been around cats but their mum only adopted adults so doesn’t have kitten experience either.

I have a Baofeng UV5R antenna as well as a Yagi TV antenna and i was wondering if i could use one of these to get a longer range. Will i be in any trouble if i send a message and the signal leaks over to a different frequency.

2025.01.20 20:44 cheapsquealer My walnut from Dracula's castle finally germinated !
Last year I went to Romania, it's a country that I love very much and I go there regularly, like most of the other Balkan countries.
I returned to visit the famous Bran Castle "Dracula's Castle". After finishing the visit I strolled in the garden at its foot where a huge and magnificent old walnut tree grows in the center and I picked up 2/3 nuts from the ground.
When I returned to France, I saw it planted in pots, hoping that it would grow, without really believing it.
I was hoping one day to be able to plant a walnut tree in my garden and tell myself that I could call it Vlad, Dracul or something like that. I like the idea of the plants and trees in my garden having a story. (for example, I have irises that belonged to my great-great-grandmother).
Anyways, months passed and nothing came out of the ground until this afternoon when I noticed a small green stem coming out of one of the pots!
There are no leaves yet, but the Dracula nut has sprouted. It's dull, I know, but I was so happy!
I just hope that the growth goes well and I can plant it in the spring.
PS: I also picked up some oak acorns from the Transylvanian forest, but so far nothing has germinated.

I left my job in October 2024 through which my spouse and I had health insurance. This is the first time I’ve had to find an individual insurance plan. We didn’t qualify for plans through Healthcare.gov (was told it’s because we are married and file separately) so I went shopping on the private marketplace. I put in our PCP and our medications as criteria, and was recommended a plan on Ambetter health which said it covered our providers and the majority of our prescriptions. We went with a HDHP since that’s what we had been on through my work and our medical expenses are typically low, and at the silver level to reduce our out of pocket expenses. Our monthly premium is ~$900/month for both of us.
Now that we are covered as of Jan 1, we started to call our providers and pharmacy to update our insurance info, only to find out that our PCPs don’t even take this insurance, none of our prior authorizations are being honored under the plan, and they are fighting us on prescriptions that we’ve been on for years, even the ones the marketplace said the plan would cover. We spent the last few years getting our healthcare on track and now it seems like it’s going to get derailed.
What are our options? Are we stuck with this plan until I find another job that offers insurance or the next enrollment period? Do we have to start over with new providers and go through months of tests and trials in order to get back on our regular scripts? Several are not the type of medicine you can go cold turkey on.
(PS: only now realizing how spoiled we were by employer health plans. Our COBRA payments were $1500/mo so we just decided to save the money and risk going without insurance for the end of 2024 while desperately looking for something “affordable” for 2025)
