2025.01.21 00:50 interstellarshark how should I read this pattern?

I'm a little confused as to how I'm supposed to sew this bit. Piece 3 is a single, U-shaped pocket, cut on a fold per the fabric cutting instructions. However, pieces 9 & 4 aren't sewn together yet at this point. Do I stitch as shown in red in my photo, even though 9 & 4 aren't connected yet? Just a little confused.

2025.01.21 00:50 Caethryl I messed with my partitions and now I can't boot into internet recovery
I erased all my partitions (I know I'm dumb) and I fucked myself. When I start my imac (intel) it brings me to this screen (and even when I startup with command+R, and PRAM reset). None of the commands there work.
The only other screen I can get to is the 2nd pic when I startup holding the option key but then brings me right back to this screen when I connect to wifi and press enter.
Earlier today I was able to get to the wifi connect part of internet recovery for macos by holding command+R on startup but when I connected to wifi and press enter it brought me to the error screen on the 3rd pic (and also had the error code -1005F)
But now I can't even get to that part holding command+R, just brings me to that windows recovery screen.
Someone please help :( Am I fucked?

Hello!
I am seeking some guidance on how to differentiate substance-induced mania from non-substance-induced mania, particularly in cases involving psychoactive substances (e.g cannabis, cocaine, crack, etc.). Specifically, I would like to better understand the criteria for determining when an episode can be classified as substance-induced versus an independent manic episode.
I am a first-year psychiatry resident and encountered a case that raised this question for me:
A 28-year-old male presented with a manic episode following heavy use of cocaine and cannabis. During his inpatient stay, the episode was managed with mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and benzodiazepines, resolving within 7 days. He had two similar episodes in the past two years, each occurring after substance use, with durations ranging from 5 to 14 days.
The presentation meets DSM-5-TR criteria A and B for Substance/Medication-Induced Bipolar and Related Disorder. However, I am struggling to interpret criterion C, specifically this excerpt:
** “The disturbance is not better explained by a bipolar or related disorder that is not substance/medication-induced. Such evidence of an independent bipolar or related disorder could include the following: (….) Symptoms persist for a substantial period of time (e.g., about 1 month) after the cessation of acute withdrawal or severe intoxication.” **
I find the phrase “substantial period of time” to be vague. Should this be interpreted relative to the substance’s half-life? Are 10 days substantial, or does it need to exceed one month, as suggested in the example?
In the case I described, the episodes duration ranged from 5 days to approx 2 weeks. How would you approach such cases diagnostically? Additionally, would the prognosis and long-term treatment plan differ if the patient ceased using psychoactive substances? In such cases, would lifelong use of mood stabilizers be necessary if substance use were discontinued?
I’d really appreciate insights from more experienced psychiatrists. Additionally, I have struggled to find specific articles or case reports on this topic and would be grateful for any recommended resources.

This post is specific to direct hire H1B employees. WITCH style contracting sweatshops are a whole different mess; if your company outsourced to WITCH they probably would have just offshored anyway if WITCH wasn't an option. You would not want a job at WITCH firms.
I have been a hiring manager for engineering positions which have considered candidates on visa; I am also a naturalized citizen and have applied for jobs on visa prior to getting my green card, although not on H1B. I have full perspective on both sides of the story.
I will say it bluntly; if you truly think you got displaced by someone hired by your company directly on H1B, you are either at the bottom 10% competency or downright stupid and don't understand how the program works.
For starters, if you're in a blue collar job without a college degree required H1B has nothing to do with you. The minimum requirement for the visa is a job required a bachelor's degree or 12 years of on the job experience in that field.
Secondly, it is almost NEVER cheaper to hire someone on H1B. The extra costs of an immigration lawyer and the visa petition can cost anywhere between 10-30K, and the application still might not get selected in the lottery system. Each year roughly only 25% application are selected because there is a strict cap on for-profit H1B visas issued. So our unofficial policy was we would only ever consider someone for H1B if they already had another visa status to fall back on like TN or F1-OPT, or already had an existing H1B eligible for transfer. We never ever hired from overseas with intention to get them a new H1B visa; it was simply too large a risk to justify spending 10K+ and wait months for the lottery results.
Yes the minimum pay required for just an H1B is pathetically low at 60K. HOWEVER that is not the actual relevant number. Almost all H1B employees will demand the company sponsor an employment based greencard as soon as possible, otherwise they will transfer to another company and now you just wasted 30K onboarding. For an employment based greencard a PERM certification is required, which has much more stringent pay requirements that are compared against the median pay of the region. I've seen 120K salary in Texas be rejected by PERM.
That "will you ever require visa sponsorship to work in the US" question is specifically to filter out visa needing applications. Those of you that have never had to answer yes to that question have no idea how much of a handicap it is. When I was a hiring manager the policy was to only start giving visa needing candidates callbacks if a position couldn't be filled after a month. Even so we would only consider if the candidate was truly outstanding. You have no idea how disappointing it is to get a great resume from a candidate and then see on the job application that visa sponsorship is required.
Finally, if you don't care because you're an unemployed CS grad and think getting rid of the H1B program and sending all of them home would help your odds, guess again. The stance of my org, and most orgs I've talked to, is we would rather let a req sit empty for months than lower our hiring standards. An inadequate hire is actually a net negative for us; now we have to have an actually good engineer spend time to double check your work. We would rather delay schedules and offer overtime incentives than compromise on hiring bad candidates.
TL;DR: unless your whole department got outsourced to WITCH, H1B holders have not hurt your career.
I agree that something needs to be done to prevent abuse by WITCH consulting firms, but the vast majority of H1B direct hires punch well above their weight and are a net benefit to all.

- Wear boots/non-tennis shoes, or if no boots extra thick socks, if no thick socks, wear double pairs or use toe warmers
- Wear thermal underneath pants or double upon on some sweatpants underneath jeans or snowpants
- Wear a face cover like a ski mask or even a bandana and cover with your jacket --- wearing a beanie over is preferred
- Drink plenty of water, you can dehydrate faster in the cold than the heat
- Use/walk through buildings on your way to class to avoid time outdoors; it only takes 10 minutes in 0 degree weather to catch exposure
- If buses are full and you have to wait awhile at a stop, keep moving around, bend your knees, rub hands, jog in place --- if close to a building, go inside and wait, buses will usually stop for longer on coldesnowier days
- Don't leave electronics in your car or in your backpack for extended periods of time in the cold, they can get damaged. I've sometimes tucked my laptop against my chest under my jacket while walking.
- Ask to leave class earlier than normal to your GSI or professor before class begins so that you may get to your other class sooner
