My primary just told me that it is impossible to do the OA within the hours given and therefor, I am expected to work overtime. This is in response to him telling me as well that there is a lot of minutia I need to take care of. Apparently, the voluntary is mandatory.
in the PTA we were told, we do not need VOT and if we need it then there’s a problem as it shows we cannot manage DM.
So, are we or are we not expected to work overtime to compensate for all the minutia primaries like? one would think they would know how yo teach us how to use our time effectively

2025.01.22 00:47 RoutineTax2170 Achieved My First Win On Emperor!
Hey guys, I finally managed to finish a game! A win on emperor difficulty isn't something I have managed before, so I'm feeling pretty proud of it. Pangaea map with no barbarians, but I'm still counting it. I started out with aggressive expansion to claim enough land to have horses, but they ended up being way across the map, so I ran a settler all the way to them to claim them, which left me with a strange long strip of an empire. From there it was a straightforward conquest with Mounted Warriors. Man, those things go hard! The AI and I hardly got into the medieval era. Shoutout to Suede; I put a lot of tips I've learned from you into action this game. Super exciting to learn how to get better at a game I've been playing since I was a kid 20 years ago. And shoutout to everybody else on here keeping the civ3 community alive! It was a bit of a slog at the end of the game but knowing I would get to post to you guys about it if I did kept me going. Happy civing!

In the midst of the winter storms its been very cold. The other morning after work I was driving home and a check engine light came on. P2173 Throttle Actuator Control System (High air flow/vacuum leak detected. I went out later the same day to investigate the issue and there was a pop like a backfire from under the hood and now it cranks but no start. Any help would be appreciated.

Using the Windows HDR Calibration tool, my monitor can reach a peak brightness of 1600 nits, the monitors actual specifications list something around 800-1000. Using the color profile from the calibration tool and raising the peak brightness for RTX HDR to 1600 nits seems to just blow out whites whereas when set to 1000 nits, it looks great. This isn't much of a big deal, 1000 nits is more than enough to have HDR look great! Just wanted to see if anybody else has this issue.

I’ve got mocks in 19 days, and honestly, I’ve done almost no revision so far, mainly because I’m not sure how to approach it. For maths, I know it’s all about practice—just doing problems over and over—but I’m struggling with how to revise effectively for history and economics.
For history, I know I need to work on past papers, but I’m unsure of the best way to review the content itself. Flashcards feel too tedious, and notes don’t seem to stick in my memory. It’s a similar story with economics—I just don’t know the best method to make the material sink in.
If anyone has advice on what works for them, I’d really appreciate it. I want to use this strategy not just for these mocks but as part of my long-term revision plan all the way to A-levels

Three things to clarify here:
- The entire context makes it clear it's about prohibitions for marriage, nothing here suggests that masters are allowed to have sex with slaves outside marriage. Rather, it implies that they marry them even if they're already married.
- The verse doesn't imply that slaves here refers to war captives. Quran only gives two options regarding captives/prisoners: freedom or ransom. And "those your right hands possess" in quran is consistently used in quran to refer to slaves.
- Quran makes it clear that marriage is supposed to be based on consent (i.e. calling it a "firm" contract between spouses, prohibiting to inherit women against their will about etc...), so slave women are are allowed to marry their masters even if they're already married if they consent to it. Paternity doesn't seems to be an issue here (not that paternity of slave born children was all that revelant back then), which perhaps explains why such marriages are allowed.

This sub has been super helpful with getting a sense of reasonable prices for things around here, so here’s another -
Got quoted $2800 plus cost of equipment (so $2800 for labor only) to install a whole house water softener + filter + automated leak detection emergency shutoff valve. This is in Arlington.
House is already under renovation so access to the water main line into the house is easy.
Seems a bit steep to me, but again, this is NoVA… does that sound reasonable at all?

I had a blood drawn today and the phlebotomist did not use a tourniquet nor told me to close my fist as I have been told in the past and tourniquet was always used. I’m trying to figure out why she didn’t use one, and whether this will affect my results.
One thing I noticed is that as soon as she stuck me a drop of blood came out and hurted more. Is the tourniquet mainly used to find veins and prevent blood from dripping out? Trying to figure out if i need to worry about my results being affected.

Today I return a really weird online order. I wasn't even sure I was allowed to return it. Guy comes up to service desk like it was a regular Tuesday, says he wants to return it, and puts it on my counter. When I tell you my flabbers were gasted, I mean I took a step away from the counter and stared at it like it was some sort of weird alien. I had to call a team lead up to the desk to see if I was even allowed to return it. Anyone have any guesses? (I just about threw up)
