I Want to Be Led by My Husband, But… (A Lot to Unpack) — Seeking Perspectives on Us Individually and as a Couple, and the Situation
He does no research and will just say and do things. Here, we’re talking about pledging post-grad. Fraternities and sororities are a big no, and we’ve discussed this off and on. I was going to pledge, however, further research and my heart tell me no. We discussed this, though. For the message where I stated, “I was expecting to,” I was going to say “be led,” but I guess not every man is knowledgeable or intellectual. What gets me, though, lol, is that he tries to tell me what to do and what’s best. I can’t take it. His plan will be the most idiotic thing ever. Should I back off? This isn’t just an instance, lol; he does this a lot, and I can’t trust his leadership or judgment because he doesn’t think. I told him he can pledge if he wants, lol, because, first, why do I have to tell this grown man everything about life when supposedly his parents are Christian and he’s very active in church? Also, side note: he’s making me do counseling at his church—marital counseling. I don’t like his Family Church, and he wants to do it with his pastor, and I’m not comfortable with that because I’d prefer a stranger. Secondly, he wants me to attend his church regularly, which I’m opposed to because I’m not getting what I need spiritually from his church. He wants me to stop going to my church and go to his! They sing a lot, and they are all over the place. I like to focus on the word. I like to hear the word and preaching. He’s never even near me because he’s active in the church, and I feel like going to church with your partner is intimate, and I’d like to hear the word together. Maybe I’m complaining too much, and he says no matter what church we go to, he expects us to not just be members, but for me to be super active. I don’t have a problem with being active, but not to the point where I can’t live my life, do what I need to do, and listen to the word.
