It is unlikely to hit us, most of the possible impact points are not cities, including some ocean regions.
But what a catalyst for the governments of the world to get serious about a planetary defense system.
NASA's 2022 DART mission, delivered by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, successfully nudged an asteroid off its course using what is called a kinetic impactor strategy. Though mostly a proof of concept mission, it was important that we did it.
Now, however, and if you'll forgive my French, sh&t gets serious. There are asteroids in both the main asteroid belt, between Jupiter and Mars, and the Kuiper Belt, that are kilometers long. These are always being tugged on by the gravity of the most massive object in the solar system, the Sun, and to get to the Sun, they must pass by earth--or, if we're less lucky, slam into earth.
Do we have time, resources and technology to build a proper planetary defense system that would protect us from all except maybe the worst case scenarios? Yes. Do I expect politicians who are more interested in doling out our tax dollars to their cronies and to special interests to ensure their own political futures to give a crap and start building such a defense system? Well, put it this way: I won't be holding my breath for it.

Ósea que tan común es verlos en 10 partidas PVE porque el multijugador es imposible porque hay cada novato que no pone su emblema por ningún lado. 1) Los polluelos rojos 9/10= el día que lleguen Los Ángeles Sangrientos se va a llenar de jugadores 2) Los ingenieros en software 8/10= el que diga que los manos de hierro están muertos en nivel de fan no juega este juego. 3) Los SIGISMUND issius 7/10= de lejos los que más abusan de la clase bastión y destacar su terquedad 4) Los leoncitos 6/10= tan comunes como los templarios negros, pero ultra raros, no se mueven en la barcaza, solo te miran raro 5) Los JEFF espaciales 5/10= tan comunes como su arma de plasma cuando menos te das cuenta PUMM aparecen atrás tuyo. 6) Los Something in the bridge 5/10= nunca salen de la clase con el jet pack, son una carta asegurada para un susto porque no los ves. 7) Los perros, digo lobos 4/10= yo esperaba que hubieran más por Logan Grimnar, pero son muy raros de ver salvo en las misiones con los mil hijos, porque nunca los veras en una misión contra los tiranidos. 8) Los DOOM 4/10= es extraño verlos fuera de la mision obelisco pero cuando aparecen son una carta asegurada para ganar. As a software engineer I do a lot of work in the shell and find these helpful.
- aliases
- tmux configuration and keybindings
- neovim configuration
- mac and linux
- working on several remote machines where I:
- - may not have root
- - probably shouldn’t be tampering with shared stuff - e.g. i can't go and upgrade tmux or something
- - the software is not necessarily up to date or exists at all
Part of my motivation for sticking with tmux is its universality. But if I have a way of sandboxing a more modern technology like byobu, why bother?
I've gathered a couple technologies to help me with this with some sparse notes. Before I dive into trying to implement this, do you guys have any recommendations or existing technologies that people use? This definitely seems like a problem that many engineers have encountered before ...
- chezmoi - for using templates to configure aliases and env vars between machines
- appimage - a promising and cool technology, but looks like it doesn't work as seamlessly on mac?
- docker - maybe I can spawn a container on every machine i want to work on, mount it in a consistent location and host the apps there. probably a very sizable performance hit?
- compile the apps i want for each os, get it as a single statically linked executable. whenever i jump onto a new machine, download the executable into a consistent location. downside here is to not expect the same app behaviour between OS.
