On the last day of last year, we dove into a marathon discussion workshop. We delved deep into the future plans for Dinkum Together until we reached a conclusion—it felt like being in an endless dungeon! After four days of passionate debate, we were completely drained. So, we'd like to share a few of our favorite memories from this workshop with you. We had a session where team members talked about their most enjoyable moments while playing Dinkum. Here are some of the responses that resonated the most with us. 🐊 Snacky Croco said, "I can never forget the time I was casually chatting with Fletch in front of the tent early in the game, only to be ambushed and killed by a Croco. Up until then, I was convinced Dinkum was a cozy game."And finally, 💣 Artistic Blaster remarked about their favorite moment: "When I placed my first decorating item. That tiny spark of aesthetic charm on the desolate island was when the game truly became fun for me. My photo below says it all!" This is an old reference sheet, but a majority of the data is still accurate. Making a Nelikun OC is ok with me, but I know y'all don't give a crap about that.
The Nelikun (Neliku modernis) are a race of reptilian/mammalian aliens native to the desert moon of Thetos. They are known for their territorial and militaristic culture and have frequently quarreled with human settlers over border issues.
Nelikun are roughly 4-5 feet on average, and are characterized by a set of 8 horns, a long tail, four arms, and a second pseudo-tongue on the back of their head. This second tongue contains their sense of temperature, since for an unknown reason they evolved to lack temperature sensitivity in their skin. Each hand and foot has four fingers or toes, and the bottom of their feet are flat and cupped slightly inwards to allow them to walk on shifting sands.
Their blood is unique in that it uses Iodine as a solvent in place of Iron and serves the purpose of transporting nutrients to their cells. Their respiratory system doesn't actually give them the ability to breathe but rather exists to siphon sand and dust out of their food. Nelikun reach homeostasis between 80-250 degrees Fahrenheit, and in temperatures that we consider room temperature, their blood would freeze. They also have poorer light vision but see contrast better than humans and are able to communicate among each other somewhat telepathically via radio signals.
Nelikun can live for up to 200 Earth years, which is equal to about 600-700 Thetos years. Nelikun are obligated carnivores and could not survive on a plant-based diet. Not that it would matter, because a lot of tribes are sadistic.
Nelikun split themselves into tribes and kingdoms, with the rules dictating whether or not you can be in a tribe being complicated and varying between tribe. Despite their tribal culture, a majority of Nelikun know the language Ikunisk, which can from the Naborite-Unisk tribe, who were large-scale merchants. A majority of tribes still keep their tribal language as a local language, using Ikunisk when communicating with other tribes.
Nelikun are very frequently at war with one another. In fact, their used to be trillions of Nelikun before the Great War of the Sea eradicated a majority of tribes in the course of 100 Earth years. After that, the constant waging of war died down significantly.
Their homeworld, Thetos-aba, is a small desert moon orbiting Thetos-ab, a Hot Jupiter. The planet has a third of Earth's gravity, and a very thin atmosphere a human could breathe in, but they'd feel like they're on the verge of suffocating. The moon is angled greatly so that its tidally locked with the star Thetos-alpha, and leans at about 78 degrees. Combined with its seasons taking over a couple million years to change, Thetos' North Pole is extremely hot, and its South Pole never receives enough sunlight to thaw out of its eternal winter. The region in the middle is a beautiful mix of jungle, desert, and ocean, and Nelikun thrive in this equatorial region.

Hi ich mache seit September 2024 eine duale Ausbildung zum Fachinformatiker Anwendungsentwicklung. Ich muss diese Woche entscheiden ob ich auf dem Fachgebiet bleibe oder in die Systemintegration wechsle. Was denken oder merken aktive Entwickler im Job gerade von der Ki hat man Angst ersetzt zu werden wohlmöglich schon Kurzarbeit dadurch?
Oder wird es als Tool eingesetzt um standartisierte Prozesse zu vereinfachen und niemand verliert seinen Job?
Mir wird gesagt ich würde keine Anstellung finden als Anfänger bzw Junior nach der Ausbildung weil die Ki genauso gut wäre wie ein frischer Junior Developer. Ist das so? Ich meine mir liegen beide Bereiche aus dem privaten mehr Systemintegration las Vorerfahrung vorhanden. Aber die macht über Code bzw. jede Software ein unbeschreiblich verlockender Skill den ich lernen will für mich seit Matrix 1 damals :D aber primär möchte ich nie wieder Struggeln und auf Zeitarbeit angewiesen sein wie bei meinem alten Beruf Maler und Lackierer Geselle. Darum hat jemand aktuelle Eindrücke oder eine Meinung dazu die mir vlt. hilft mich zu entscheiden. Kann man sich als junior Dev immer noch heutzutage die Firma aussuchen?
