2025.01.22 19:25 EcstaticAssumption63 Car not starting. No dash lights, no clicking. Help?
Just gone to start my car this afternoon. Put key in ignition and try to turn over, but everything completely cuts out. No dash lights, no clicking. Just dead silence. I try again an hour or so later and get a flicker of dash lights but then cuts to nothing. Cars been sat unused for about two weeks due to bad snow. I then took it to the garage for MOT and repairs, drove it a mile home and it's been sat there since. Does this sound like a dead battery?

2025.01.22 19:25 trio3224 What do you think of the stock exhaust?
I was curious what the consensus is, but I think the stock exhaust sound on the 1st and 2nd Gen 86/BRZ sounds pretty bad. Like, one of the worst of any sports car I can think of. Even the ND Miata I think sounds better stock (even tho I think that needs woken up too). And that's to say nothing of cars like the C8 Corvettes, the Coyote powered Mustangs, Lotus Emira, or if you go back in time you had excellent sounding 4 cylinders in the S2000 or Integra, etc.
I really don't like the bland tone, and personally I think it should be a little louder too. The note doesn't change that much throughout the rev range, and it's not really an aggressive growl, or a wailing scream. Now I think there are plenty of great aftermarket exhaust systems that wake this car up and change the tone and there's a wide variety of volumes to suit your taste. But stock? Does anyone think it sounds good stock?

2025.01.22 19:25 Laicn Tuning stability issues and worth upgrading a budget guitar?
Hey everyone,
I recently shared my experience with guitarguitar Edinburgh not the best unfortunately, and mentioned the tuning stability issues with my Js32 Dkam. I’ve been having with my guitar. Putting the bad experience aside, I’ve been trying to address the tuning stability and have already made some progress: • Stretching the new strings before tuning. • Leaving the strings tuned half a step higher overnight, then tuning them back down.
These steps helped a lot, but now I’ve run into a new issue. Whenever I press down on the whammy bar, even just a little the guitar goes out of tune. However, pulling up on the whammy bar no matter how hard or how many times it doesn’t seem to cause any tuning issues. After pushing it down then pulling it back up seems to put it back in tune.
I’ve been researching possible fixes and came across a few options: 1. Replacing the licensed Floyd Rose with a Gotoh unit. 2. Installing a string retainer bar, which some people swear by for improving stability.
For context, I spent about £300 on the guitar, and the Gotoh upgrade would cost under £100. I’m also planning to upgrade the pickups eventually. I’ve never done these kinds of mods before, but I have a lot of soldering experience and enjoy tinkering with gear, so I’m up for the challenge.
My questions are: 1. Is it worth investing in good parts for a budget guitar? 2. Is there a simpler fix for the whammy bar issue that I might have overlooked before jumping to upgrades?
Any advice or shared experiences would be hugely appreciated.
TL;DR: Jackson JS32 DKAM has tuning stability issues when pushing the whammy bar down but not when pulling it up. Considering upgrading to a Gotoh Floyd Rose and later on swapping for better pickups. Wondering if it’s worth investing in these mods for a budget guitar or if there’s a simpler fix.

2025.01.22 19:25 primus202 Suggestions for smart panels or smart splitters for 100A service?
We're electrifying our house on 100A service and it's become apparent we need something to help keep our load under our service limit. With HVAC, water heater, and dryer our real world peak is around 50A according to our solar monitoring app. Adding an induction stove and car charger would make me nervous.
Does anyone have recommendations on smart devices for handling load shedding/balancing? One complication is that we have a "main" sub-panel we installed in the garage with some loads, the main panel has some other heavy loads, and then there's also the house's original sub-panel inside with the dryer and the lights/appliance circuits (it's a mess I know!). Maybe they could move all those circuits into the garage though that sounds expensive. At the very least our main sub-panel could be made smart to control our heavy loads (minus drier) and the home sub-panel would just be one circuit on it as it is now.
Some options I've seen include:
- Span: the main player in the smart panel space and they're coming out with different sized panels soon so I'm hoping we could get two small panels and just swap them in for full fine tuned control without moving circuits. However I do worry about the cloud dependency, what do we do if/when the company's online services go out?!
- Lumin smart panel: unclear to me if this would even apply to our use case, seems more battery specific
- Leviton: most established/old school player in the space though unclear to me if it's designed for the 100A use case since the smarts are on a per breaker basis, I don't know if they can communicate to shed loads etc
- Schneider: would replace the main panel which would be a bigger pain (and was already done recently at great expense). Also sounds like they don't support load shedding yet and you have to pay per circuit for control.
- Enphase: they have load controllers though they're, again, more battery focused. However our solar is Enphase based so if it can handle load shedding that'd be great!
- Install a couple "smart circuit-splitters": we'd probably want at least two though this would probably still be the cheapest, dumbest, solution which I like. However most I've seen are designed for NEMA/plug appliances aka a car charger and a dryer both sitting in your garage which is not our use case.
