Over the past four days, I caught a bad case of the flu. I am recovering now and feeling much better, but my voice doesn't feel the same due to all the coughing and sore throat I experienced. Normally, my voice is a bit deep, but I’ve noticed that after talking for a little while at work or home, it becomes even deeper and feels strained. My throat becomes numb, and my voice turns very deep and gravelly as if thick sand is stuck in my throat. While it doesn’t hurt, it’s quite uncomfortable.
I’m worried this may affect my chances at an audition I have next week.
If you have any advice on how to soothe, heal, and recover my voice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I need to work on it, but it's hard to feel like I'm making progression. Its not fun, so it's hard to buckle down and do. I'm really bad at some of these (rock over, hanging leg lift, side dip) so I don't feel like I want to do them if I'm doing them badly. Which means I need to do them more. Ugh.

Hello. I have a friend, he's 36yo, male. He lost two friendships three months ago, and he is obviously hurting and grieving. He's been feeling depressed for some couple of months now. I mean I understand, I was in the same position as him once. Loosing someone after many years of friendship is hard and painful. I've spent hours talking with him and being there for him, helping him reflect everything and process is. I even tried therapy methods from my own therapy to support him(the basic positive skills like writing down what you're thankful for etc) I'm not mad at him, for not improving a lot right now. As someone with BPD I can relate to standing at one point for some while and not moving for or backwards.
Now the problem here is, that he is solely focused on how bad everything is for him and how unfair he gets treated. How everyone is out to get him and how everyone drops him. I really love listening to people and creating a safe space for them to dump their feelings and thoughts out. But Everytime I criticize him the slightest, he gets defensive and pissed. Even raises his voice sometimes. He always has to point out how bad he's doing and how miserable his life is. Whenever I or other people try to talk about our problems, he makes it about him. ALWAYS. He will always find a way to make something about him.
I was talking to him about my self harming thoughts and how miserable I was doing today. And he managed to make it about himself and his own pity. How he thinks he always cares about people and that he always tries his best to understand people and care for them. Well maybe he actually is trying, or thinkinf about it, but he's not doing anything.
I talked to the friends he broke contact to earlier since we all know each other and I have been gaming with them.
One friend told me, how he always made conflicts about himself and how that was the reason they broke up the contact with him. Because they couldn't handle how poorly he handled the conflict.
He's not a bad person and I know this. I tried to talk to him really really gentle and understanding of his situation. But he gently rejects what I say and says that other people only take and take and take and how its his turn and how he balances out such things. Which is sadly not true. He didn't even care to call when I was almost brought to the psych ward with police(he was the trigger and he knew he triggered me) I don't want to finger point, my feelings are my responsibility and it's not his fault that my bpd is so horrible sometimes. But he didn't text me after that, he didn't ask how I was doing out of "self-protection " what he also did when I simply wanted him to answer a simple question and he ghosted me out of "self protection".
I don't want to break up the friendship with him and let him sink into that hole even more. I want to help him because I know he's not a bad person. But I don't know how, it seems like I can't get through. I am just an emotional dump bucket for him and I get nothing in return. Which tires me and sucks out my energy a lot :(
If anyone has advice, I'd be glad to hear it. I don't want to give up on him just yet.

We're in the process of purchasing a property that we've just had a level 3 building survey carried out on.
It's raised a several "serious" defects. The main one being:
*"We noted deflection in the brickwork above some of the openings on the original dwelling. The brickwork has settled onto the head of the newer PVCu windows/door with cracked mortar joints evident.
Significant movement has occurred above the lounge window which has distorted the sill, opening and frame of the bedroom window above. We could see the front edge of a metal lintel which has recently been inserted above the lounge window opening. The vendor advised that this work was undertaken in 2023 and that they had received notification that building regulations approval was not required. On checking their paperwork, it was found that their builder had advised that building regulations approval was not required. This advice was incorrect as inserting a new lintel is considered to be a structural repair and requires building regulations approval.
Similar distortion was noted to the rear bedroom window with stepped cracking beneath. The stepped cracking is above the door opening between the kitchen and conservatory. There is also stepped cracking beneath the bathroom window. These cracks are on the exterior of the property only."*

2025.01.22 22:13 duox7142 Considerations for planning out a new HVAC system
Hey folks, recently I purchased a house that's 20 years old. 2 systems, one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. 60k BTU units and 2.5 ton AC, each with 1200sqft. HVAC system is original to the house. The furnace was very poorly maintained and rusted from lack of condensate cleaning. Likewise the refrigerant in the AC line is leaking. Rather than constantly spend on freon top ups and run the risk of CO leaks from a rusty heat exchanger, I'm replacing both systems. I've done some research, but I thought I'd post here for opinions and experience.
Where I live, temperatures get down to about 15 degrees ferenheit, though this current cold front is testing record lows.
For energy costs, I'm looking at $1.18 a therm and $0.115 for 1 kWh. If my math serves me correctly, my 80% furnace is about 2.3x cheaper to run than resistive heating.
I think it's fair to plan on staying in this house for 10 years if not more? So a more efficient unit will have time to recoup initial expense.
Main question I have is, these days does it make sense energy-bill wise to go with a heat pump? Bang for buck I would need a heat pump to be greater than 2.3 times cheaper to run for the same heat output as the gas furnace. HSPF of 9 I believe is what's needed to be at par with gas costs. Can I expect that in even these cold months?
Also, since I already have a gas furnace, would it make sense to go dual fuel? Or with a modern heat pump would the gas furnace be used so infrequently that resistive backup heat would be sufficient? With gas lines and vent already there, and considering I would need a new 20amp circuit ran for resistive heating leans in favor of dual fuel it would seem.
If I do go dual fuel, would it make sense to go for high efficiency furnace? I've gotten one contractor to come in, saying that to run a variable speed heat pump if need to go with either an air handler with resistive heat, or get a high efficiency furnace. But supposedly a high efficiency furnace is significantly more expensive to install than an air handler.
Let's say I go variable speed heat pump, the contractor says some ducting would need to be removed. Does that make sense? If I keep the same tonage, why does variable speed need a change in duct work?
Since it seems prohibitive to go with a variable speed heat pump, does going with a dual-stage or multi-stage still make sense?
So many variables to consider, so I'm looking for input from others who have experience or knowledge on the matter. Let me know if there's other factors I'm not considering or information I should provide. Thanks!
