I recently moved to the UK, and my husband, who graduated last year, has been self-employed as an IT Engineer since October 2023. He started paying taxes from October 2023 to April 2024, earning around £18k during that period. After paying 20% income tax, NI contributions, rent, bills, and making advance payments for the next tax year, we’re left with nothing. We’re struggling to understand how the UK tax system works and how people manage to save.
The contractor covers his petrol and food while he’s at work in another city but expenses like car insurance, car repairs, phone bills, Wi-Fi, and sometimes food are not reimbursed. Are these things we can claim for tax relief? How does tax saving work for self-employed individuals here?
We spoke to his uncle, who’s an accountant, but unfortunately, he wasn’t much help in figuring out how to save anything. We’d appreciate any advice on how to handle this better!

I've been modding Skyrim for probably over a year at this point. I'm been playing off and on and had several playthroughs that have ranged from early to mid levels to up to the 60s for characters I really enjoyed.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any up-to-date mods I might have missed that might shake up the more monotonous parts of the game or just add new content to play with. I'm not a stickler for Lore or anything so anything short of adding lightsabers feel free to mention. I'll look into or try anything that looks fun. Some examples of mods I do or didn't like:
Apocalypse, Ordinator are probably my favorite mods. I really like the new spells and leveling. It makes me feel like I can be very creative with builds. And I value that a lot.
Hand placed enemies, higher leveled enemies redux, Lawless. Are also some of my favorites. Anything that just raises the variety or quality of the average enemy or dungeon I've really liked.
Immersion Weapons , Armor. And similar mods. I like seeing more variety in the world. I've looked at most of these before but its possible I missed one or two high quality ones. Looting is fun but begins to feel very tedious when everything I find is the same items.
Skyshards or JK's Skyrim are also favorites of mine. Stuff that makes the world more rewarding or just better designed with more in it I like.
Mods I've disliked or just didn't love:
Bruma, Wyrmsrock. Other huge non skyrim locations just don't interest me much. They're usually good quality and I visit them time to time but stuff to improve the quality of the original world and gameplay loop is better for me.
Total overhaul of existing parts of the game. Like Alchemy overhaul. I'm fine with most of the game as is or parts I didn't like I've already found fixes for, like the economy, followers, or precision. All work fine for more. So no major reworks or redesigns please.
I'm probably going to try out community shaders and timing is everything in my next playthrough as well.

I'll keep the description of the situation as short and to-the-point as possible:
Problem:
- Got asked by friend who is willing to pay a bit of money if I could develop an app for them
- For both android/ios
- Features: Basic forum-like functionality, e.g. user-to-user posting and interaction, the ability to log in and have an account and post etc. (any integration with google or apple log in would work for them)
- Important that it looks classy, it is for a kind of "art project" so not some "2005 website" looking thing
- Overall could have pretty barebones features as long as it is robust
- Me: have a few years python coding experience, have good coding intuition but don't know a lot of "industry standard stuff". I have coded graphic games with vector physics, discord bots, etc. Know my way around Git, VSCode, etc.
- Education: Currently have studied a year of mathematics and computer science at university and am following along well
- Time: I will have 1-3 months relatively free that I could dedicate to this as a learning experience and paying job
- Tools: They are willing to fund any AI or similar tools that are required, if the whole app is generated, that's fine for them, as long as it works well
- Money: Will be willing to pay for my time and any tools/costs as mentioned

What is the note-taking experience like? Does it feel like writing on paper at all?
With regard to note-taking, is it possible to use it for long meetings where you take many notes? Does it have an infinite-length page or a very long one?
Does it allow you to save PDFs and then make notes on them?
Is the palm rejection good?
Can you save photos and then add comments to the photos? If you take a picture of a colored page in a book and then save it on your Scribe, does it allow you to make annotations on it?
Why do some people recommend installing KOreader on the Scribe?

I occasionally send my wife a reel via WhatsApp by holding the send button on an Instagram post, and releasing on the WhatsApp logo. Today, when I went to send my wife something, I found that they added an identical WhatsApp button that instead makes a WhatsApp status and shifted the one I've been using to send a message for well over a year to the left. (Images 1 & 2)
I got confused, so I closed the app, found another post to share, and the menu had changed again. This time, there were still two WhatsApp buttons, but now the order swapped again. Status on the left this time. (Images 3 & 4)
So I do the same thing again. I close out the app, and go to share a post again. I'm shocked, as the menu had changed YET AGAIN. This time the WhatsApp status button was third to the left. (Image 5)
So I do the same thing again. I'm not even surprised this time when I see that it's a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT menu now featuring a Messenger button instead of the WhatsApp status button. (Image 6)
The menu had changed four times over the span of around four minutes.
I've noticed Instagram doing lots of A/B testing, primarily with the messaging features, but this is a whole different level of insanity.
Consistency, especially in menus that get used rapidly and repetitively, is super important. One should be able to utilize a feature without worrying if it's going to be slightly different 20 times over the next month.

Besides the usual full body ones. Also, anyone have 2 twitches different parts of body at same exact time?
I’ve noticed this since it started that it seems to get aggravated after walking for like 15 minutes or more where when i go to sit down; all the sudden on cue 2 minutes later its flickering and popcorning all through my legs but especially thighs front back and glutes.

My fellow guardians,
I write to all Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks today to share my experience within the destiny2 subreddit in hopes that I save others the trouble of speaking their mind (even when not saying anything crazy, aggressive, or offensive). I have screenshots of everything and would include them but it seems that this subreddit won't let anyone post images currently (I'm not sure why though). Due to this, I'll quote everything that was said below minus the original post as it's way too long, but encourage anyone to look at it for yourself as its pinned to that subreddit's page.
The following is the chronological events that took place between last night (around midnight EST) and 5pm EST):
- Around midnight last night (theoretically this morning), a moderator from the subreddit made a post titled "destiny2 is banning links to TwitteX" in which they emphasized their hatred of Elon and strongly stated how he's a Nazi for his gesture during the speech he gave at the president inauguration (which I'm aware and agree didn't look good on its own).
- After seeing the post a couple minutes later, I responded with what I thought was a very reasonable comment which was as follows:
I’m genuinely baffled how blown out of proportion this is… particularly because anyone can go watch his entire speech (which is just under 4 minutes btw) where he clearly says “My heart goes out to you” while making the relating gesture.
Obviously, no one supports (actual) Nazis and I couldn’t imagine anyone that would. Something we should support though is seeking the truth and being honest with people, especially when making such drastic claims.
For anyone that’s truly interested in knowing the truth on this, please just watch his speech from yesterday. It’s honestly really simple and obvious to see what he actually did / said.
P.S. - If I get banned from this subreddit for this post, I hope you know I truly appreciate the many years of joy Destiny has brought me and I hope to see all of you star-side!
- Next, the moderator who originally made the post responded to what I said with the following:
It's almost like he can misleadingly say "my heart goes out to you" to cover his Nazi salute with plausible deniability, should anyone rightfully accuse him of what he truly intended with the gesture.
It's crazy how people will literally take things at face value and not use their brains to look for a deeper meaning.
- As the person's response above was highly hypocritical, I highlighted what they said with the following response:

Says the person who makes such a bold claim to call someone a Nazi based on an image with zero context to what he actually said / did, especially when anyone can watch the actual full video of his speech (that’s just under 4 minutes) and clearly understand what really happened.
Come on man, just be honest with people. This whole thing is very disingenuous otherwise.
- As it was sometime passed 1am at this point, I went to bed and haven't really thought much of any of it since I had work and others things to get done today with more priority.
- Now, sometime around 5pm EST today (around an hour prior to me writing any of this), I got a notification from reddit saying that I have been BANNED from that subreddit. Obviously I was confused as to why (since as the above comments are the only things I said), I really didn't say anything that would be a breach of rules. Come to find out, the reason for my ban was the following:
Nazi sympathizerThe fact that I was deemed a "Nazi sympathizer" for simply encouraging others to watch the entire speech to gain full context of what was said / done is insane and clearly not true. I hope that anyone that actually took the time to read this entire post sees that I did nothing wrong to deserve a ban.
As I said in the title of this post, I caution anyone who has differing opinions in this day and age. Regardless what you actually say or do, there is always someone who will take it unbelievably out of context. Be safe and good luck our their guardians!
UPDATE: I went to post this in the official DestinyTheGame subreddit and it was immediately removed by moderators. I also still can't add images to the post in this subreddit either though which seems odd...

2025.01.22 23:14 Both_Week_2327 Disappointment with internal promotion process
Recently applied for an internal promotion on a different team (moving from sales operations to a sales role) and got the call this morning that they are going externally. Feedback I got was incredibly poor too…..feeling super discouraged and disappointed as I believed all my interviews went incredibly well and I’ve worked closely with this team for the past year, and actually have done a few events that would be part of this new position if I would’ve been offered it.
I haven’t been happy in my current role basically since I started due to change in leadership and no structure with my job responsibilities- I was told I would be doing one thing when I was hired on, and I have basically been doing admin work that other people don’t want to do. Money and benefits are good so that is why I have stayed.
Not sure how to get out of this slump. I was really excited to make more of an impact, and it’s really hard knowing that I’ll be the one training this new person when they come onto the team- obviously I know none of this was their doing, but not sure how to move forward from here….

Greetings stranger,
I find myself once again, reaching out into the world in search of a meaningful, lasting connection.
I'll start with the basics: Originally from FL, I've been a NC resident since 2016, living in Asheville since 2020. Western NC has been a second home my entire life, however. I'm a recent graduate with my MS in nature-based Experiential Education. I am single, never married, no kids, no criminal history, no history with alcohol or drug abuse, non-smoker (except for the occasional cigar on special occasions) (420 friendly with moderation), and all my life I've stayed relatively fit and healthy. I'm a passionate Aries, if you're into that stuff. I'd like to believe I've got my life pretty well put together. I prefer monogamy but have some experience with non-monogamy. My greatest passions in life have been musical performance throughout my youth, and long-distance backpacking as an adult. In addition to these major interests, I also enjoy active pursuits such as weight lifting, tennis, biking, skating, ping-pong, pool, disc-golf, regular golf, occasional running, swimming, etc. Other hobbies include reading & writing, painting, pc games, photography (mostly nature), D&D, Texas Hold'em, naturalist studies, traveling, graphic novels, movies, dive bars, meeting weird & interesting people, and science. I'm very left-leaning but have always been a critical thinker, capable of making my own judgements about the world. My undergrad BA is in Sociology, with major focuses on Criminology, Environmental Sociology, World Religions, DEI initiatives, and social Psychology. I guess you could say I'm pretty woke. I believe in community/grassroots activism, and have campaigned for a couple of different democratic primary candidates on the state level in FL & NC, plus I have worked as a fundraiser for progressive non-profit organizations. I love and care for all animals, but when it comes to pets, I highly prefer cats. Dogs are OK, I just never grew up with any so it's typically an adjustment for me, but not a deal-breaker. Definitely have a harder time with anxious/high-energy dogs. As for my personality, I'm an ambivert which means I love connecting with other people, and I can easily be the life of the party when I'm somewhere I'm comfortable, but I also need a lot of quiet time and solitude to re-charge. Too much solitude is bad for me. Also, I've been a silly goofball my entire life. Life is meaningless for me if I'm ever unable to make people laugh. I live for laughter. You'll know I'm super comfortable when I can be silly and weird around you without holding back.
OK, I've covered a lot of the pros, I guess if I had to list some cons, one would be that I have an anxiety disorder that I typically keep very well under control, but certain stress triggers can bring it out. I go to therapy when I know I'm having a hard time. I'm very sexually experienced, but I also believe in safe sex and get tested regularly. I've just spent a lot of my life single, with a handful of committed relationships sprinkled in. This means that I'm super kinky, but would never require a partner to match all my kinks. It's just more fun when they do. I've found that being really kinky and adventurous in the bedroom can be intimidating for someone less experienced or insecure. I'm also a highly independent only-child, so it's sometimes a challenge for me to want to commit to someone unless they seem ideal. I'm actually quite quick to want commitment with someone who has their shit together. I've had an agonizingly long history of dating women who are rife with red flags such as addictions/cheating/insecure/anti-social/generally unkind to everyone or themselves/unresolved trauma or mental health issues/etc. Please, please, please, if you have chronic issues with any of these things and aren't actively working on bettering yourself, don't bother reaching out. I'm looking for someone who has *most* of their life together. I understand that nobody's perfect. Perfection is not what I'm seeking. In fact, I have a huge heart, with lots of love to give to the right person, and it's my deep empathy that has often led me to pursue these unhealthy relationships with women who are emotionally unavailable. I'm not usually one for new year's resolutions but perhaps this needs to be the year where I finally stop settling for the bare minimum. I need someone like myself, healthy and calm, with a thick skin, and able to give love back.
Sorry, the end of 2024 was a little rough on me. But my heart is still open, don't worry.
If you still aren't certain of the kind of person I'm looking for, let me make it simple with these characteristics:
Funny, kind, intelligent, careful, loves cats, nerdy with passions, interests and hobbies, optimistic, has worked on themselves, is a great communicator, is comfortable being single and waiting for the right person, doesn't have problems with consuming things like drugs/alcohol/nicotine/overeating, doesn't have psycho exes lingering in their lives, doesn't have problems with serial cheating, knows her self-worth, is able to set realistic healthy boundaries, exercises and stays in decent shape, liberal ideologies, cares about people and the planet, monogamous, or at least monogamish* Bonus points for outdoorsy (but not required) and kink-friendly.
I know this list seems sort of impossible for some people... so I'm going to be gracious enough to say that nobody needs to match EVERYTHING here, but if I'm being real to myself, the more points that align here, the better the potential match.
Last thing I'll say is that while I love the area that I'm currently living in, I do not currently have the kind of job I see myself in for the next ten years, so I'm open to meeting someone out-of-state and seeing if a strong connection can be formed, and I'd see if I can find my next dream job elsewhere. WNC post-hurricane (and even pre-hurricane) has been a difficult place to find a long-term job. Plus, I'm still kinda fresh out of grad school, so I'm doing my best. ALSO - we've just entered a new level of political dystopia here in the states, so I'm also more or less open to the idea of connecting with someone internationally.
If you made it through all this, congrats! You're already pretty special. Go ahead and shoot your shot. Please included a pic as I've been brave enough to include three up-front. Tell me as much about yourself as you feel is appropriate.
