Have a question because I was told this happens but wanted to see if it’s true. I was told that when I get interest calls and they say they’re checking references they don’t always use the ones I put on the application. I was told they can contact previous crews/engines I was on even if I don’t have them listed as a reference. How is this possible and is it allowed even though I don’t list them as a reference because there’s obviously reasons I lost one person and not others.

What do I tell the waiter to get this kind of steak? I am open to trying new cuts and usually get a filet but last time my medium rare filet was just too chewy in an unpleasant way.

2025.01.23 01:17 FoggyEddie Help convincing Vet to file
I have a friend who served in combat and has some serious PTSD and probably TBI issues. He’s been out for years but won’t file for anything because of a combination of survivors guilt and believing he can manage it on his own. Myself and friends, both veterans and not, have tried to convince him over the years but once many vets get over that barrier themselves, they can be pretty flippant about their monthly payments and that doesn’t resonate well with him. I’m not one to push because I think it ends up being counterproductive but he’s having his first kiddo soon and I think it may be the time to revisit as benefits will now extend past him.
He’s an intelligent, introspective guy and I’m sure there are articles or narratives written by combat veterans out there that might help convince him that taking a disability pension isn’t cheating or taking anything from “the guys who really need it”, but I don’t know where to look for them.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Something first person I think would resonate best, although data driven conclusions would probably also be appreciated.

 | One of the best budget warbows I found online is a fiberglass rod and it's about 200$ for a 110lb longbow. I have since made a couple PVC bows and my latest one is easily 80lbs at 28in. This is more than enough for most people to require a warbow stance/technique. Could be an option for the budget minded. All in all took me about 3 hours to make, including the tapering jig. 2025.01.23 01:17 -Kaushik Anyone else experience a 5-second screen blackout when plugging in their laptop?
I’ve noticed that every time I plug my laptop in (or unplug it), the screen blacks out for around 5 seconds before coming back. Sometimes I even have to press a few keys to get it back to normal. I assume it’s the laptop switching performance modes (like from battery saver to high performance or vice versa).
It’s not a huge issue, but it can get a bit annoying, especially if I’m in the middle of something.
Does anyone else experience this? Is there a way to reduce or avoid the blackout?

In the past few weeks (maybe longer) I've noticed that very rarely do I get into a fresh game. It kind of ruins the whole flow of a game, especially on the newer maps when you take into account the little ee's, like the rat king or Mr. Peeks hide and seek. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a method anyone knows that can either stop this completely, or at least mitigate it. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I'd much rather start a fresh game of zombies when playing with random players.

I consume cannabis daily. I'm set to have my wisdom teeth removed in two weeks. When I spoke to the surgeon, he said that "it would be good" to stop at least a week before surgery, but only because he would otherwise have to use more anesthesia than normal. The paper the receptionist handed me said to stop for two weeks ahead of time, so I figured I'd try for the two weeks.
The problem is, I forgot that part of the reason I smoke when I get home from work is because I take Adderall for ADHD and the comedowns are absolutely killer when I'm sober. Making sure I'm eating enough and staying hydrated helps with the headaches and irritability, but I also get just super depressed when the Adderall wears off and I am starting to second guess my decision to take a t break. Weed made this side effect so non-existent that I literally forgot it existed, but this is day one of trying to not smoke and I now remember exactly how it felt when I was first starting my meds... Horrible.
I guess I'm just looking to hear if anyone has any thoughts. I know this is a group for like, moderation and reducing your use, so maybe it's not the best place to ask, but I figured some other people here might have gone through similar circumstances.
If it weren't for the upcoming surgery I wouldn't have been considering taking a break at all. I don't feel like I have a super high tolerance or problematic use. It definitely helps with a lot of things. The possibility has crossed my mind that I could experience some withdrawals (although I've taken breaks with no ill effects in the past), but his really feels more like the unblunted Adderall comedown as opposed to just withdrawals from not smoking. I was actually treating a symptom, and generally my routine and my substance use was working well for me.
Idk. Should I try to stick it out and see if it gets easier? I honestly don't want to. From what the surgeon said it's not a huge problem if I don't stop. I'll just have to tell them I didn't and they'll adjust my anesthesia accordingly. I guess does anyone have any compelling reasons why I should give this more of a shot?

 | For Context: one of my roommates has decided to move out due to some personal issues between us. However, despite the issues I haven’t done anything to push her out or make her feel like she’s required to move out in any way, shape or form. She’s decided to move in with my old roommate in her house (not friends with her either due to certain issues). The other night I heard banging around (it was about 11:30-midnight) and I heard the drawer where the pots and pans are kept being opened, along with their two voices. After they left I went to look and saw that all the pots and pans had been taken. The pots and pans were left by the old roommate and she had told me that I can have them as she wouldn’t need them, this, along with the kitchen knives, glasses, and spices that she had left were taken. I understand they weren’t mine to begin with, but they had been left for months, and I received no heads up that they were going to be taken back. I am an accounting student, earning my B.S. and have a couple semesters to go. I recently have become QBO & Xero Certified, I also completed a short internship in which I was able to work alongside a CPA for a book cleanup that a client needed.
I really enjoyed it, and now I have the itch to start my own bookkeeping business. I do have basic principles, and an understanding for debits/credits.
I would just like to make some connections, possibly gain some clients, and if there is a CPA willing to hire me on as an independent contractor I would take the opportunity in a heartbeat.
