2025.01.23 02:34 LifeOfANoName Struggling to Initiate Intimacy – Is This Anxiety, Trauma, or Something Else?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I’m curious if anyone has experienced something similar or has advice on how to overcome it. For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with initiating any kind of intimacy—whether it’s sex, kissing, holding hands, or even small physical gestures.
A little backstory: I lost my virginity at 18, and my first sexual experience was with someone who was abusive. I don’t want to get too deep into that here, but in that relationship, I never had to initiate anything. He always asked, and I just did what he wanted. After I left that relationship, I got into another one (probably too quickly, if I’m being honest). It was healthier, but I noticed I still couldn’t initiate anything. Even if I wanted to have sex or be affectionate, I just… couldn’t. I thought maybe it was fear of rejection, but I’ve never really experienced bad rejection, so I don’t even know where that fear would come from.
Since then, I’ve been in relationships with Doms or people where I didn’t have to initiate, which made it easy to avoid the problem. But I started realizing this might be a bigger issue when I was in a friends-with-benefits situation. Sometimes I’d go to hang out, fully prepared to have sex (shaving, waxing, etc.), but if he didn’t initiate, I’d just leave feeling disappointed and confused. I wanted it, but I couldn’t say anything.
He even brought it up, asking why I never initiated anything. It made me realize this probably looks like I’m not interested in these people, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve tried to reflect on it, and I honestly don’t know if it’s: • A fear of rejection • Lingering effects of my abusive past • Anxiety about how to bring it up or “start” things • Something else entirely
Now that I’m writing this out, it’s starting to feel like more of a problem than I thought it was. I genuinely don’t know how to fix it. Has anyone else struggled with this? If so, how did you work through it? Did therapy help? Is this something I just need to push through and force myself to do?
I’d love to hear from anyone who can relate or has advice.

I was playing a comp game and was thinking about picking jeff because he's fun to play and I'm good enough to play comp with him. Then the bucky said I should do rocket instead and I was like "alright, if I do bad you wanted this" and after we started losing the first round the punisher just started going off on me because "no heals" I had 20k healing. The next round he tried to surrender, no one wanted to because he's the only one saying that the support sucks. Then he started to throw the match, all because I wasn't playing who he wanted me to play, who he said are "luna, cloak and dagger, and mantis" because those are the ones that are played on high levels and everyone else is a throw. Can we just stop being so negative in a video game? I get it's comp but there is no reason to have a full on mental breakdown because someone on your team isn't playing who you want them to play. This is a game for crying out loud we're all trying to have fun and someone cursing another person out isn't fun for anyone. If you don't want a thrower on your team just lmk by DM or in the comments and I'll send you the name so you can add him to your blocklist Sorry for not being very cohesive idk how to write lol

I got two wisdom teeth, pulled out the top and bottom from the left side. Right now I’m on day 10 and I still am pretty swollen, especially near my jaw. It’s very hard to touch, and I have a light yellow bruise. I can barely open. My mouth only can fit like my pinky. I’m concerned, but I’m not sure. My surgeon didn’t put me on any antibiotics and I’m trying to wait the two week mark to see if I can even open my mouth so that he can check me. I have a slight weird taste in my mouth, but I think that may be because I’m not able to brush well cause I can’t open my mouth/the healing process. Any advice.

I did it fam!
This game was incredibly enjoyable. I can’t say more than what’s been said already, and I’m excited to move on to the tower.
What is everyone’s theory about the story?
I don’t understand how it all fits together, or the astronaut stuff … but I’m pretty sure the Mother was abusive, and there was a car wreck, and she left her mother to die seatbelts in the car and only saved herself.
At first I thought the seatbelt thing was an accident, but after finishing Act 3 and settling on the “mom was abusive or mentally ill” thing, I think maybe it was deliberate?
I don’t know.
I have like this hazy, fuzzy sort of understanding of the vague notions of the plot, of themes, etc … but ZERO CLUE how any of it fits together.
I assume nothing that happens in the game is real. She’s not a space explorer, etc. I thought maybe she had some form of dementia or something, and it was about that…???
Anyway. I could go on but I won’t. Hit me with theories. (I haven’t done any Tower stuff yet).

So I'm a high school student and I just finished my second semester and a class I had with a teacher I had conflicting feelings about. So when he first started teaching my class I didn't really think anything of him just that he looked kinda different than the other teachers (in an artsy way), and that he was young (late 20's), until a few days later, I caught him starring at me while my class was working which made me question the intentions he had towards me. I thought about it all weekend and thought wouldn't it be fun to see if I could seduce him ? And so that's what I did for 4 months. I actually liked this guy, I thought he was quite emotionally intelligent, secure with himself (he had mentioned going to therapy before which I thought was brave of him to share with the class), and a caring teacher to all of his students. He really understood us. So basically, me and this teacher would occasionally have conversations about common interests we had together and he would even recommend me music he thought I'd like. He made it clear that he thought my interests were cool, which I appreciated. The days where he wouldn't show me that attention, I thought those were a waste of a class since I wouldn't be seeing him the next semester. As the months went by, I started to dress more provocatively in front of him, and would try to make him start a conversation with me. I noticed he got jealous whenever I would speak to male students my age, and would even catch him following me and trying to start a conversation with me in the halls, before my friends would drag me away. I'd catch him sneaking a grin at me and everything was going well until I came back from winter break. He suddenly stopped paying attention to me, as if maybe he realized he wanted more than just a student-teacher relationship with me. The last day of class with him he got mad at me for the first time and started laughing with this other student about the thing I did. This man that I thought was a good man, turned out to just be a boy. Now I don't know what to do. Can anybody tell me how I could get his attention even if I don't have a class with him anymore ? I see him in the halls often during my lunch break.

Help. I have had sciatica on both sides for over a decade. It got progressively worse when I had shingles, but I managed the pain with Lyrica. That led to some weight gain, so I decided to go off and try to manage the pain in other ways.
I've tried massage, exercise (walking, weight lifting), and still have flare ups.
I would love to find another long-term solution for managing. I cannot keep taking pain meds either.
Any advice would be welcome.
