I've been with my current company for about 6 years, and have become fully vested in the ESOP plan as of last year.
I've been maxing out my 401k, and the current balance is around $175,000. My company ESOP account is at a similar balance around $175,000. ESOP shares are allocated each year based on a percentage of salary, and appreciate based on company value.
If the ESOP continues to pace my 401k, I could see it becoming a significant percentage of my overall retirement portfolio by the time I reach my FIRE date in 15 years or so.
Do you guys see being locked into company stock like this as a risk? Would you consider moving companies just to diversify those funds?

Hi, just wanted to get a better understanding of how the education courses are structured and how progression works in terms of determining competency.
Are they all just built around individual textbooks? The way I'm imagining it right now, you are assigned a 500/600 page textbook, read through it, memorize most of it, and then take the test. Supplementary materials like recorded "lectures" are available if needed.
How necessary is prior experience when it comes to progressing through the courses at a slightly accelerated pace (I have none)? I can't imagine leaving with a solid understanding of these textbooks in only a couple of days.
How do folks that graduate in one term do it? This isn't what I want to do personally, I'm just struggling to understand how it's possible physically. Do they really just sit down, lock in, and read 10s of thousands of textbook pages in 6 months? Feeling especially inadequate about my ability to do something like that, haha.

is it ok to treat a whole tank for ich if only 1 fish shows signs. I have a 75g and 1 fish an electric blue jack Dempsey (of course) is the only one showing signs, iv seen 2 spots on 1 fin for about a day and a half now so I’m assuming it’s ich. I don’t have another tank to separate it to because my other tank currently houses goldfish so I’m wondering can I just treat the whole community tank for ich or does it HAVE TO BE separated?

2025.01.23 03:55 Bgrngod HEVC Target Transcoding - Testing several machines with test to 4K 20mbps output
I've been testing various machines with the same workload today, and then checking Tautulli as well as playback quality to see what's up.
My files are 4k UHD disk rips I made myself with MakeMKV. I started testing with several different files, but everything seemed consistently the same so I'm only posting results here using my trusted copy of 1917 which I STILL HAVE NOT WATCHED all the way through. For shame. It has a 77mbps video track, which is on the higher end for my 4k files that average around 65mbps.
Client is Plex App on Windows 10 with an HDR display. Transcoded output is showing as HDR and looks f'n fantastic. App's quality is set to 1080p at 20mbps, which results in 4k 20mbps HEVC output.
Unless noted, machines are on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS, all machines are transcoding to RAM or SSD's for the temp directory, and the Plex chart for RAM usage barely moves the line indicating Plex's usage:
- i7-6700 6th gen (Win 10) LOL, no fam. HEVC toggle doesn't even show up in settings.
- Celeron G4930 9th gen 0.6x Buffering quite a bit.
- i9-9900 9th gen 1.0x Juuuuust barely making it work.
- i7-9750H 9th gen (Win 10) 0.5x I'm wondering if the HDR Tone Mapping feature is involved and causing issues here.
- 1660ti GPU 4.1x This is in the 9750H laptop.
- J4125 ~10th gen 0.6x With more than occasional buffering. This is not a Synology NAS, but is the same CPU is the models that get recommend here a lot. Oddly, worse than the G4930 despite the speed being the same.
- N5105 11th gen 1.4x Ok, what the fuck?
- N100 12th gen 0.9x With occasional buffering. Bumps up to 1.0x briefly. This is my actual server an AOOSTAR R1.
- Shield 2017 Wont even do in HW. The setting is there though? Weird. I was hoping for some magic.
- Shield 2019 Same. BOOO.
- None of the testing had CPU going nuts when HW was being used correctly. Consistently very low. 15% was the highest I saw on any machine.
- For some other testing I did with a browser, the colors for HEVC SDR output do appear to be Tone Mapped correctly just like H264 SDR output from an HDR source. Not a surprise.
- It doesn't seem like there's a performance difference between the output being HEVC HDR or HEVC SDR Tone Mapped.
- The performance difference for the 9th gen CPU's was a surprise. All testing I've ever done with those CPU iGPU's transcoding to H264 has always been virtually identical.
- The 1660ti kicking ass is pretty rad. I'm wondering how consistent that will be across various Nvidia GPU's.
- The N5105 being the stand out iGPU performer is wild. What the hell?
- Yes, there is a distinct lack of newer desktop CPU's in my arsenal. I might need to change that soon.

I put my first dog down about 4 months ago, I felt like my other remaining dog was depressed and lonely and needed a new friend. Once i felt ready i got a puppy from the pound named mocha, she was born in June as was i and she was so incredibly loveable, she loves to lick and has such a fun personality. Come to find out she started having rashes and cuts on her feet from dry skin. Through vet visits and research i came to the conculsion of allergies, I did a allergy test at the vet and she is allergic to every single item on the list, the vet even said "wow". She was put on special food, cannot touch grass without receiving rashes, cyto-point does not work, and I am at a loss. I have had her for about 3 months, I have also spent a record amount of money on this dog. I am thinking of euthanasia as I do not think she has the ability of any true life, as well as the amount of pain she has been in. What are your opinions, any suggestions?

a couple months ago i (17F) started dating one of my best friends, Alaina (17F) after years of tension. i had always known i liked girls but my parents had no idea. after we dated for two weeks (and had sex a couple times), i told my mom that we were dating. she was super upset and told me i ruined her life and the life of everyone in my family. she was mad i had hid my relationship even though it was only two weeks. her and my father shamed my girlfriend's dad for letting us have sex at her house. I became banned from Alaina's house and she became banned from mine. I feel horrible for Alaina because now I can't give her the attention she wants. Sometimes you just need to lay in the same bed as your partner and watch Good Mythical Morning. Recently, my parents found out that I once snuck Alaina into our house and also found out that I smoke. They hate me now and they tell me I am the biggest disappointment. They won't even let Alaina drive me to school because they think she's such a bad influence. They won't even meet Alaina or her dad. How can I convince them to trust me enough to hang out with her or at least not be so homophobic?
