I'm getting married to my high school sweetheart, who's not from the United States. He's from a small island country near Rihanna's island, Barbados, called Dominica (not the Dominican Republic). They have traditions that I want to incorporate into our wedding. They normally wear African garments but in rainbow colors, which I'm not fond of. So I'm doing the African attire in white, gold and royal blue. We both agree on the attire and colors. I'm from Detroit Michigan but I've lived in Texas since I was 10 I went back every summer but my personality has adapted to the Southern Belle so I was always the country girl to my friends back home so Long story short I'm combining black royalty with a bit of southern charm as a theme for our big day. My father and I are not seeing eye to eye one minute he's saying I'm picking everything and not letting my fiance pick anything witch is not true he's not a guy who's in to all this stuff if it's something he doesn't like he will tell me if not he just keeps letting me do my thing but then the next minute my father is saying I'm not doing anything black American culture I'm making everything African 🤦🏽♀️ like his culture (fiance is not African he's African Caribbean like I am African American he knows about the same of "African culture" as I do witch is not much) so I ask my father what is black American culture that you so want me to put in our wedding he said well jumping the broom 🤦🏽♀️ ( if you don't know that is a African tradition that the African slaves brought with them to America as a way to still get married ) I didn't feel like arguing with him so I said okay I added the jumping the broom. Then he got upset about the outfits Nice royal blue African suit similar to the groom's white and gold one. He said why am I making everything about his culture what about our culture at that point I got mad and said just wear what you want I started crying. Then he told me don't let people make decisions for your wedding it's your wedding I wear whatever you want I just think it's weird that you're making everything about his culture 😩 whatever. Now he's upset that I want catering with traditional Dominica'n Caribbean food I'll also have baked chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy for the people scared to try it but that's still not good enough for him. I hung up in his face and cried some more. he keeps saying I'm not putting any of my Black American culture or traditions and at this point I'm like what even is it because everything he says it comes from African slaves when thy were brought to America but he wants me to stop making it all about his African culture (Again he's from Dominica a small Caribbean island Not Africa) so am I being a bridezilla a cry baby AITA
