2025.01.23 05:34 userwithambitions AITAH for not interaction with people at a party?
So, I was invited to spend new year's with my former friend and their family last year. I was already nervous because I had never spent New Year's without my family and I had only seen my friend's parents once or twice. Plus, other family members were coming. My friend even talked shit about their cousin to me.
I completely shut down during the festivities. I didn't know how to even sit on a chair, where to look at or what to say.
They were all having their conversation about happening that I wasn't there for, so I couldn't really add to the convo to begin with.
I found comfort in the living room, where no one was. My friend did come check on me from time to time, and I said that I was indeed nervous and anxious. My friend and their family did activities in the kitchen, doing a lot of noises and having fun.
Midnight happened, we watched the fireworks from the balcony and toasted. In my country we all give 2 kisses to each other on the cheek.
We watched Netflix until we went to bed I slept there.
The next few weeks, my friend wouldn't answer my texts. At one point I asked "Did I do something wrong?"
They proceeded to explain to me that my behavior during the party was very rude. That I made them choose between me and their family.
I apologized, but did say I disagreed with some things.
We haven't spoken since except a close encounter at a store once.
I had told them beforehand that I had never spent New Year's with people I didn't know and that I would be nervous.

Here’s the situation: if we’re being honest, we are clearly moving into a techno-fascist, feudalistic society.
Donald Trump placed three American oligarchs front and center, even ahead of U.S. senators. Then, he pardoned 1,500 individuals, effectively creating a small army, some of whom attempted to kill the vice president and, in fact, murdered police officers.
This was a statement. It sent a clear message: if you Purge in Trump’s name, he will protect you.
This is straight out of Hitler’s playbook. What’s significant here is that historically, conservatives have treated police officers as if their lives were sacrosanct. Yet we’ve now witnessed a president who was willing to pardon individuals who murdered police officers, who beat them on national television while they begged for mercy.
Some Trump supporters argue they acted out of provocation because they were pepper-sprayed. But in many of the new videos, those same supporters are calling for the deaths of our elected officials. The National Guard was deliberately kept away. A small force was left to protect the Capitol, and these individuals claim justification for their actions because of pepper spray? How disconnected from reality can you be?
Trump’s willingness to pardon 1,500 people involved in heinous acts of violence sends an unmistakable message: his people can purge, and they will be protected. This mirrors the path Iran took before its descent into dictatorship.
The looming question is: will this embolden his supporters to commit more violence, feeling invincible under his protection?
We need to have an honest conversation.
Society is held together by social contracts. Under capitalism, there has traditionally been an unspoken agreement: the wealthy create jobs and opportunities, and in return, we allow them to enjoy their immense wealth. While this system is deeply flawed, this social contract has held the United States together for about 200 years.
But these contracts are breaking down.
In a lawful society, police are respected, whether deserved or not, because they are seen as the enforcers of these social contracts. While the police have historically upheld terrible systems, like slavery, the understanding has been that disputes are resolved through the courts. Police, by extension, are compelled to honor those rulings.
When individuals who kill police officers can be pardoned, the enforcers of these social contracts are undermined. In this case, Trump has destroyed the legitimacy of law enforcement as guardians of democracy.
The social contracts of democracy and shared wealth have been key to preventing civil war since our last one. Yet the United States has seen these contracts fall apart twice before.
The first was during the American Revolution, a civil war by definition, triggered when the British refused to share wealth with the colonies. After the Boston Massacre, the contract between the colonies and the Crown shattered, sparking revolution. Many Americans fought for the British and later fled to avoid prosecution.
The second was the Civil War. Again, the collapse stemmed from democracy and wealth. The North’s industrial growth threatened the South’s slave-based economy. Their societal structures became incompatible, and even law enforcement found itself at odds. Southern officers enforced slavery while Northern officers protected runaway slaves. This fundamental contradiction tore the country apart.
Now we stand on the cusp of another collapse.
When law enforcement itself is delegitimized, and the contracts of democracy and economic stability disintegrate, civil war is no longer a distant threat.

 | I traded a guitar I acquired a while back for this HX Stomp 2 days ago. I’ve wanted one for at least a year now so I was super excited to start using it. I purchased a universal power supply today since the guy I got it from didn’t have the original one. I got home and this is what happened after i initially turned it on. (Attached Vid) After messing with it I got it running and i practiced on it for two hours with no issues, indicating the problem is only on start up. I’ve only gotten it to fully turn on 3-4 times, aside from that I’ve gotten a blank screen. I messaged the guy who gave it to me, and he blocked me after sending him the video. I’m really hoping it might just need a firmware update, since it shows it’s still running 2.8 or something like that, but guess what, the USB prongs are all bent. (I’ve seen this is a common issue) Hoping I can take this to a service center or a tech sometime soon, maybe try and fix that port myself but I don’t rlly have the time or money to deal with that.
