Hi all,
I’m not sure if this is the best place to post, but I’m looking for some advice from anyone working with Intune and Winget for managing application updates.
At my company, we have a relatively small application footprint, there are a few limitations I’m navigating: firewalls and web filters occasionally cause issues. Despite this, I’ve been experimenting with Winget and am curious how others are using it.
What I’ve Tried I’ve explored a few “Winget Update All” solutions, but they feel a bit like black boxes, and I’m hesitant to rely on something I don’t fully understand. I prefer open-source solutions, but only when I can confidently see and modify what’s under the hood.
Running Winget as System seems necessary due to permissions, which isn’t a dealbreaker but does introduce some constraints.
So far, I’ve used Call4Cloud’s templates for Intune installations, which have been helpful, but I wanted something more tailored to proactive remediation.
What I’ve Built Over the weekend, I created my own PowerShell-based module with the following structure:
- Tracking Packages:
- Created a list of packages I want to manage, recording information like:
- Name
- ID
- Current Version
- Date First Seen
- History (e.g., version and date changes)

- Used Winget’s
upgradecommand to parse output and compare it to my recorded data. - If a match is found and a defined delay period (e.g., X days) has been reached, the module attempts to update the package.

- Deployment Across Endpoints:
- We have around 1,500 endpoints, so the plan is to roll updates out over several days.
- Centralised Storage:
- Storing package tracking information in an Azure Storage Account or a public GitHub repository.
- User Notifications:
- Adding steps for specific apps. For example:
- If Notepad++ is flagged for an update, a pop-up could notify users to close the app.
- If the delay exceeds X days, the app could be force-closed for an update.

- UnigetUI or Other Tools: I’ve been using UnigetUI personally, and my solution isn’t far off. Would integrating with UnigetUI (or something similar) be better than reinventing the wheel?
- PowerShell Winget Module: I know there’s a PowerShell 7 Winget module in pre-release. Anyone have experience with it? Does it seem stable enough to use? (Didn't really want to install PS7 to 1500 devices just to help update others.)

There’s a lot of speculation that the special ability is going to be Seer, hinted at a few episodes back when they showed a book in the library titled "The Seer."
For those unfamiliar, in the card game Werewolf, the Seer can see other players' true nature.
But unlike Werewolf, it looks like anyone left in the game can get this power. If a traitor ends up with it, it could lead to some serious manipulation.
If this role/ability does end up being introduced, what other roles would you want to see in future episodes? I would love to see a JesteTanner and maybe a bodyguard.

WOW!
What an incredible game. I can see why it's still so well-regarded even after all these years.
I played as a male human mage. Kind of bumbled my way through the game haha. Even though I played on Normal, this game was HARD. I've never really played an RPG or a game like this before (I stick to Civ 5, EU4), so even just having to control a character felt really odd.
In terms of roleplaying, I just pretended that my main character was me, and did actions corresponding to what I would do. I was surprised when I went on here and saw that people played in character - that was a surprise to me, kind of didn't properly occur to me that you could 'do' that.
For the first quartethird of the game my team was myself-Alistair-Morrigan-Leliana, before I swapped Leliana for Zevran. I got a mod that let me romance Alistair as a guy haha.
Out of everything, I definitely struggled with combat the most. Finding synergies was very hard for someone going in basically blind (had a friend give me advice, but was mostly on my own). I did discover though that Cone of Cold + Cripple/OverpoweStealth attack is excellent. Used that a lot.
I HATED the idea of micromanaging at the start. Spent the first third of the game only controlling my main character. My philosophy was that I'm playing as one character, I only need to understand 1 character, and I only need to know 1 character, not four. But eventually I kinda had to get around to micromanaging people. Wasn't the most pleasant experience at first, but I got used to it and more comfortable.
Another thing I struggled a lot with was character configuration - which armouweapon/rings/belts/amulets to use when and on who. I still don't know why my two melee people kept missing attacks lmfao, or why even if I had the same material armour I didn't get the bonus. The mixing-and-matching was awkward, I ended the game with 90 available inventory slots because I didn't know what to do with most of the armour I got, and kept it 'just in case.'
I HATE Fireball. FUCK FIREBALL. MOST OVERPOWERED BULLSHIT SPELL WTF.
The ending I got was (spoilers, obv): - Sided with the mages over the templars - Got Eamon's wife killed (didn't know I could just call Irving for help lol) - Sided with the werewolves over the elves, got the leader of the Dalish to self-sacrifice, worked great. Dalish elves became more accepted in society - Made Harrowmont king in Orzammar, they turned into an even more caste-defined, isolationist society lolrip - Ended slavery and thereby improved the situation of city elves. That made me feel good. - Made Alistair king, tried to marry him off to Anora and they were both fine with it until the Landsmeet. He apparently ended up as a king who was shit at governing, but ordinary people loved him lol - Had a baby with Morrigan, allowed me to survive, she buggered off with the baby - I stayed in Denerim
8/10 game, -1 for Fireball and -1 for crashing a lot (my laptop isn't THAT bad and I got the GOG version of the game which was supposed to solve the issue)
Next game I want to do is one as an elven rogue, not sure if city elf or Dalish elf though. Also want to switch up my team a little.
