2025.01.23 16:50 rythica Starting out self teaching, any advice or words for me?
I learned the basics of Plover's theory in a couple weeks last April and have been very slowly getting more and more practice in since.
I'm learning on an Ecosteno, and my recent Typey records are ~20-25WPM at 80-90% accuracy on the introduction lessons. I've been embracing the advice I often see on here of (paraphrasing) "don't worry as much about accuracy when speedbuilding, just get something down and your accuracy will build when you go back to lower speeds"
My strategy so far has been to combine practice with another interest of mine, so I've been getting back into writing fiction on the side and have a story that I've only allowed myself to type on if I'm typing on my keyboard.
My hope is to familiarize myself with Plover's theory comfortably and hopefully even reach 30 or even 40WPM at 90% accuracy before starting school (ideally next fall). I know I'll probably have to adjust a lot to whatever theory my chosen school teaches, but I'm hoping having more comfortability with ANY theory and the keys in general will still be good help moving forward.
A few curiosities:
- Do you feel that once you've gotten comfortable with one theory, it's easier to learn the basics of another? (Like how knowing two languages makes it generally easier to learn a third compared to learning your second language for the first time)
- Any good resources for stretches and keeping the hands/wrists in shape? I've been struggling with hand pain after only 10-15 minutes of practice.
- Is there any guidelines to knowing when you're "done" with learning your theory, and should shift to focusing mostly on speedbuilding/drills?

So I'm going in for 5 to 7 days. I've been drinking daily for 20 years. It's actually all I do when I'm not working, if I even have a job at the time. Been unemployed for about a year and a half, so I've been drinking from the time I get up until I go to bed.
Not drinking seems so foreign to me. I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to do this. I've been to AA before and sitting around talking about alcohol just makes me want to drink. And I have (mild these days) social anxiety anyways. I have been to inpatient and outpatient treatment for DUIs, but I drank the whole time when I was in outpatient. I was buying fake urine from the head shop for the tests.
I'm not sure what the point of this post is. I guess if you're similar to me, how do you stay off the shit? Beer has been my number one priority since I started working at 18.
I did the math and I've spent about 100k on beer. Maybe more. That's not including what I've lost from it, and other financial pains. That's pretty ridiculous.

I have been a Kava consumer for the better part of 4 years. My go to is either Fiji Vanua Kava- Malo Tonga or N@H - Kelai
I am looking to branch out and try something different.
I am looking at Art of Kava or FVK for a nice balanced to heavy Kava for anxiety reduction and sleep.
I am also looking for a social/chatty heady option as well

2025.01.23 16:50 saphireruby2 AITA for refusing to split rent evenly with my roommate?
I (26F) moved in with my roommate “Katie” (28F) about six months ago. Before signing the lease, we agreed to split rent 50/50 since the bedrooms are about the same size and it seemed fair at the time. Fast forward to now, and I feel like I’m getting screwed.
Katie works from home full-time and is constantly blasting the AC or heat, has her computer, monitors, and lights on all day, and takes like three hot showers a day (I swear, one time she took one at 2 AM). Meanwhile, I’m gone 10 hours a day for work and barely use any of the utilities. Our electricity and water bills are insane, and every time I bring it up, she shrugs and says, “Well, we agreed to split everything evenly.”
Last month, I finally snapped and told her I wasn’t paying half of the utilities anymore because I’m not the one driving the bills up. I even showed her the difference between months before she moved in and now. I suggested she pay 70% and I’d pay 30%, which feels a hell of a lot more fair to me. She flipped out, saying I was “nickel-and-diming” her and that roommates are supposed to share expenses equally. Legally there is shit all I can do.She’s now giving me the cold shoulder and acting like I’m the bad guy here. But seriously, why should I pay for her 24/7 home office setup and spa-level water usage? AITA?
