Hello, thank you for reading this post. My maternal aunt (69F) had breast cancer twice (at 42 and 49) of unknown type. My mom (65F) subsequently got tested and came up BRCA1+. I (32F) am also getting tested in a few weeks. I also have ADHD.
I would really like to go on a combined OCP in order to regulate my hormones better, because currently my cycle severely affects my ADHD meds' effectiveness. I've read that Yaz/Yasmin () has been one of the best ones for ADHD-cycle regulation, however my provider (an FNP) is hesitant due to the history of breast cancer. Unfortunately care in my area is sparse, so I cannot see an OBGYN for months.
Based on my research, studies go both ways, so it's essentially inconclusive.
UpToDate says:
"With respect to other risk factors, results from the meta-analysis showed that the following may have possible associations with ϲаոcеr risks:
Increased breast ϲаոcеr risk:
- Oral ϲοոtrаϲeptivеs (theoretic, both for BRСΑ1 and ΒRCA2)
- Smoking (ΒRСΑ2)
Decreased ovarian ϲаոϲer risk:
- Breastfeeding (BRCΑ1)
- Tubal ligation (ΒRCΑ1)
- Oral contraceptive use (BRCA1 and ΒRCA2)"
