I took FAR a few days ago and have been thinking about my study tactics going into it since I left Prometric.
I used Becker, and studied a pretty decent amount of around 200 hours. I did not touch any SEs. Not 1, not 2 , and not even the Final SE. I felt my time was better spent going through the material.
Now that I’ve taken the exam, whether I pass or fail, I’m going to continue with this strategy. I think the notion that you need to “get a feel for what the exam will be like” is bogus and overrated. Once you’re taking the exam, all of that goes out the window.
Obviously some people say they benefit from the SEs, but for people like me who’d rather spend the time hammering down on their weak areas, don’t be afraid to skip them.
Even TBS for the most part I skipped on Becker. I watched some skillbuilder videos which helped me with organizing TBS with a lot of exhibits but at the end of the day, the concepts are the same as MCQ. If you know the material, you will find what you need on the exhibits.
