I'm looking for a little advice. I've been looking for a job and trying to get away from retail. Two senior caregiving jobs have been eager to hire me even though I have very little experience, one in-home, the other assisted living. I live by myself and I'd like to be able to support myself on one job. Problem is, both of them have told me they can't guarantee hours.
The facility said I would just be the fill in for people sick or on vacation, which tells me I might get 4 days a week but I also might just get 1. The in-home is just vaguely like "We can't guarantee, it depends on demand." Anyone in this field or in general have some insight on this? If I'm looking to sustain myself on one job, are neither of these a good idea?

I want to start applying to jobs in Canada specifically the Vancouver area and want to know how the job/interview market is. In the US the job applications are tedious to say the least with very few responses. Even if you’re lucky and here back the interview process is just as bad. Lots of companies even small ones are doing 3-5 rounds of interviews and going through all that is just not worth it for most jobs. I want to know if applying for jobs and attending interviews for positions in Canada is anywhere as bad as it is here in the US. Btw I’m looking for environmental consulting or environmental scientist types of positions and I do have experience so if anyone knows how that field is doing please share!
