 | Hey everyone! I recently got a set of Pantone postcards after being inspired by a couple of artists to do the Pantone postcard challenge. Short explanation for anyone who hasn’t seen this: Pantone has sets of postcards with the colour number and name and a square block swatch of the colour that artists paint on. Most artists I’ve seen do this challenge with gouache, but I’ve also seen acrylic and acryla gouache. For anyone who has done the challenge. I have a question. -what gesso did you use? The postcards have a slick surface, artists I’ve seen do this challenge all prep their cards with clear gesso. I’ve done this as well and it makes the cards easier to paint on, but still not as workable as I’d hoped. I understand that a water based paint, even gouache, is never going to have a perfect application to a gesso prepped slick surface, but I’m wondering if there’s a better gesso to use than my clear liquitex brand. Clearly a light blue gouache is never going to be a 100% opaque layer over a bright pink card, I don’t mind seeing the colour underneath and I think it’s part of the challenge. But I am curious how other artists managed to get such beautiful smooth applications and pure colours on the darker cards with traditional gouache. I did a couple paintings with my Winsor and Newton Designer gouache. I tried switching over to my Himi palette to see if the thicker texture would make a difference in the application. But they both had similar results. Overall the challenge is fun and a great way to beat art block. I am curious to know how other artists managed to overcome the more frustrating elements of the challenge. Photo #1 and #2 are Winsor and Newton Designer Gouache and M. Hello everyone
I wasn’t sure where to post this but I found this subreddit and thought it would be good to ask more experienced screamers.
I myself am trying to learn metal vocals, inspired mainly by Serj Tankian from System of a Down’s first self titled album and Joe Duplantier from Gojira. Distortion singing and false cords are my main goal atm.
There is a lot of advice out there however and it’s kind of overwhelming. Lots of different information that I don’t know where to begin.
Would YouTube be an excellent way to learn and if so what would be the consensus on the best channel to learn from. If not, what other way is it better to learn?

For years, I have been trying to escape from my dead end job. I work for the NHS. I am rarely off but my job is tiring, doesn’t make use of my skills, I have been driven to suicidal ideation by this despair but have always waited on God. But here’s the thing. Work is very busy at the moment. I can get up to 6 months off with full pay for mental health if I get a GP note.
I have always said that working so much, I don’t have time to study. But if I take that break, I can study the 10-15 hours required, and maybe even have a new job secured by the time it expires.
Could this be the solution I have searched for? Will God support me with this change? I’m quite nervous.

Does anyone know where there's good thrift stores that sell like the junk jars for jewelry? It's what the name entails a jar or vase, just filled with misc jewlery and other things similar (buttons,pins,ect) I've looked at Salvation Army and I've been to the trinity thrift but no luck I really want like eclectic funky jewelry but don't wanna pay the big prices people be asking for and thrifting is just so much better

Me and my bf have been together 8 years and I’ve always struggled with his family. I really try to be supportive and I always just go along with things but when it comes to his family he goes completely blind to me. A year ago when I was with his family during a New Year’s Eve party I started getting really sick and feeling horrible (I had major surgery less than a month prior) and I asked to leave it was 11pm we still were waiting for dinner to be ready the kids were screaming there was no seating cause it was an unfurnished new house and his family and his kept insisting I just take some Tylenol and pepto and sit on one of the few chairs they had. I kept insisting I wanted to go home and I spent the next 3 days unable to keep anything down. I had a infection from surgery that sent me to the ER and while I was super sick and recovering the next day he said his family wanted to go to downtown and hangout and he tried to guilt me into going cause “I looked better.” I stayed home and he went to hangout with them all day. He said he wanted to visit his family next month and I’m just starting a new full time job and still in school full time and we just moved and have two rents to pay and I only have one paycheck the whole month so I said I don’t really have the money for a hotel but we can make it a day trip and go really early and leave that night or maybe a hotel and drive over after work Friday and come back Saturday night because I have things due Sunday night or if he wants the whole weekend to just go ahead and go and stay the weekend with them we can FaceTime and call but I will need at least one day to finish all the class work. I have multiple labs and I’m in senior design for engineering so it’s hectic this semester but I was trying to make it work with little funds and little time. He told me I needed to try harder with his family and that I wasn’t compromising cause I wouldn’t just go the whole weekend and charge the hotel. Every time his family comes up we have a huge argument. His family doesn’t even tell him when they come to town and they also abuse animals which is very hard for me to watch (they get a new dog every few weeks and it dies within a month for years and years now) and treat their kids (including him) very very poorly. They’ve had CPS show up a number of times over the years. And his parents are always fighting every single time and it’s very awkward. Sometimes I worry it’s going to be me or his family and I don’t want to give him that ultimatum which makes me feel like maybe I have to let him go because I shouldn’t make him choose but I’m really tired of being the enemy when it comes to his family. Do you think this is too much to get past?
TLDR; his parents abuse and kill dogs every few weeks from mistreatment, they use the kids like servants, they fight all the time, they stole his credit and ruined it, and my bf will do anything to be with them and seek their approval. He’s Hispanic and family means everything to him even tho they’re not good people and they treat him and everyone poorly. I feel like his family has consistently been a sore spot for us. His family tells us when they want to do something or when something comes up and when I can’t make it fully work my bf just tells me I didn’t try hard enough and don’t care. Is this a dealbreaker?
