Hello everyone, I’m in a somewhat tricky situation.
I’m currently on an assignment in an Asian country, coming from France. For context, I’m with the same company I was doing an apprenticeship with last year.
I started the position in early January. To put it simply: I can’t take it anymore.
I have over 3 hours of commuting every day, arriving at work at 7:30 AM and finishing at 5:45 PM. I had mentioned during the interview that work-life balance was my number one priority… I got 2 Master degree in my field precisely so that I wouldn't have to go through this kind of life. But here, I just keep thinking that others are dealing with the same, so who am I to complain? What do you think?
Another issue: almost none of my colleagues speak English, apart from my manager. Integration has been quite difficult, and it’s not for lack of trying, but at some point, it’s unbearable. I’ve even ended up using Google Translate to communicate. And to think I wanted to improve my English…
Finally, during the interview for this job, we discussed the job responsibilities. I knew I’d be doing reporting, but not to this extent or at this level. I absolutely don’t enjoy it. I’ve already lost all motivation after having an amazing year last year.
I feel like I’m at a standstill. I learned so much last year that the shock of now spending 90% of my time doing reporting on Excel is hitting me hard.
Now I have several options:
- Discuss with my manager and propose to the organization managing my contract to end it.
- Find another job, though I have a 3-month notice period.
If I start looking elsewhere, I think I’ll stay in Asia. Should I mention on my CV that I’m currently working in Asia? On one hand, it could help me stand out since I’m already here. But on the other hand, it might backfire, as they could see it as a lack of “loyalty” or “commitment.”
What I’m sure of is that I can’t keep going like this.

Hi all. A while back I had posted a long and lengthy story of my experience with a coworker who had made false accusations and reports about me to the point where I was automatically written up to the point of almost termination. I ended up reaching out to HR to explain the situation and ask for next steps. HR asked me if the job was worth all the drama and problems. After some feedback and advice of self reflection I decided to let the issue go and try to move on. Apparently HR investigated the issue and she got called into the office as it turned out she had multiple complaints from others and proof as to what I had explained happened to me. For the last few months I’ve heard from my colleagues that the employee who I called HR about is threatening to confront me via person, text or any form of contact to “get what I deserve.” She’s even mentioned trying to get me fired from any job or school opportunity I find. I was confused on why this had happened, as I stated I originally reached out to HR to explain my scenario and find next steps. Apparently after l had left that job, other employees came forward and confessed that she was purposely sabotaging me and that I was telling the truth and they feared of retaliation from her if they stood up for me. That being said, the issue at hand is she keeps making all of these threats and purposely targeting employees who I was “friends” with. I am no longer at that work place but I feel for my colleagues who are still suffering with all the drama. I know I don’t work there but I feel guilty for reaching out to HR after leaving that job to explain what had originally happened and I didn’t do it with any malicious intent. I’m worried for my former coworkers but also honestly worried for myself. What should I do? I want to ignore the issue but I don’t want to worry about her finding my information or false reporting any new career I get.

Idiot No. 9 joins the party, pushing my personal happiness account to an impressive $502. Even though it’s only 11 a.m., I crack open a beer to celebrate and stare, paralyzed, at the flickering screen.
