For a while in the uk we used to get discounts on some things (sainsbury gift cards mostly for me), doesn't anyone know if we still do? I can't find the links.
There is a section for the AICPA people but nothing for CIMA members. The only benefits on my profile appear to be some dreck training courses.

2025.01.24 09:42 Aggravating_Belt6310 What to do about food noise returning

I'm currently on 5mg dose and have lost 20 kgs. I do not want to lose any more so thinking of going onto maintenance. The problem is that it feels like the 5 mg has comepletly lost its effect. I wake up hungry and the food noise is now louder than ever and i want to eat everything in sight. Has anyone had this happen to them? Did you stay on your current dose for maintenance or gone up?

Anyone else having problems getting racers you need to beat to race? No matter where I spawn, I'll get one or two then they're all going the opposite direction. I end up just racing ones I've already beat again just for the reward.

2025.01.24 09:42 paranoidgummer 32 [M4R] #California #Online - Late Night Chats

Hello~
I haven't been on Reddit for a few months now. Just been living life and ignoring the world. One of my favorite things is to meet new people, and one of my favorite ways of doing that has always been using these subreddits. I decided to check back in and see how everyone's doing out there. It's crazy out there!
I'm just a guy doing his best to take care of his girl and our cat. My days are spent performing my duties as a stay at home boyfriend. Whether that's cooking, cleaning, fixing things, or just playing video games, depends on the needs and wants of the day.
I'd like to hear about how life is going for you, what you've been thinking about, or what worries you. Your individual life is interesting and I wanna know about it.
I enjoy thrifting, spending time with close friends, and playing/collecting video games, and going for long walks. Exploring new places is fun! I read mostly autobiographies and WWII history books.
I've been told I'm easy to talk to, and I try my best to uphold that.
Chats are preferred, but contact me any way that's easiest for you.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

2025.01.24 09:42 i_slay_manifestation If you need to consciously put effort into changing your assumptions it's not the subliminal that's working??

Subliminals work on backhand changing your assumptions just by listening right? And when you change your assumption you manifest shit into your reality. It's kind of like an automanifestation but with controlled environment. Changing of assumption is an automatic process when you listen to sub. So the only thing you have to do is listen to subliminals and stay consistent. But most the advice to strugglers who get results from subs is improve self concept, say affirmations, visualize getting results , put effort, then What's the point of subliminals? You are deliberately forming the assumption. That alone is going to manifest , with sub playing no role in it.

2025.01.24 09:42 Psygnal The Villainy of Alan Howard

The Villainy of Alan Howard
One of my favourite villains is one that spends most of its time hanging around the neck of a Hobbit. The One Ring from Tolkien's wonderful (and expansive) "Lord of the Rings" saga.
The One Ring
At the heart of its menace, we find Alan Howard, the actor who breathed life into this inanimate object, transforming it into a character of its own.
The One Ring was not a villain in the traditional sense, but an object of great power, a ring imbued with a malevolent will of its own. Throughout Tolkien's sweeping fantasy saga, it seeks to return to its master, the Dark Lord Sauron. It tempts, corrupts, and betrays all those who come into its sphere of influence.
Alan Howard's performance gave us a chilling auditory glimpse into the soul of the One Ring... and the barely audible whisper provoked, in me at least, a definite tingle down the spine when I realised what was happening.
Howard's voice, a beguiling whisper, insinuated itself into the minds of both characters and viewers alike. It was more than a mere voiceover; it was an evocation of the terrifying allure of absolute power, of the insidious way such power can eat away at our moral core. The sudden unanticipated near-infrasound 'whump!' of "I will give you everything you want" on one hand, and "I will steal everything that makes you, you" on the other.
The One Ring is one of the most unique villains in literary history... however you stretch the definition of 'villain'... and this is due to its otherwise passive physical presence. The true villainy of the ring isn't in the physical manifestation of unpleasantness, but in its influence over anyone who gets near the damned thing.
It brings out the worst in people, lays bare their greed, ambition, and weakness. It doesn't just destroy bodies; it corrupts souls. It takes their good intentions and warps them to its own ends.
Alan Howard's voice reveals all of this in a way that is quite transformative. It would have been so easy to have simply made the ring... a ring. Giving it a voice, rather than just a 'foreshadowing minor key' was inspired film-making... and whatever you feel about Peter Jackson's overall production of the saga, I don't think we can fault how he handled The One Ring.
While his performance as a small golden hoop is definitely a highlight of Howard's career, it really should be noted that Isildur's Bane wasn't his only villainous role.
He played Coriolanus in Shakespeare's Tragedy of Coriolanus (1984), and I don't care that people say Coriolanus was brave and whatnot... his disdain for the common man, his overwhelming pride, and his inflexibility... well, he meets the definition of "Villain" in my book.
He also played Oliver Cromwell in a 1989 rendition of the Three Musketeers. We all know what a kind and tolerant individual Cromwell was, what with his Grinchesque banning of Christmas, and his tendency towards ruthless dictatorship.
Alan Howard died in 2015 of pneumonia, aged 77. His career spanned some 57 of those years, and he also played some memorable non-villains throughout his years in theatre, on TV, and in movies. My favourite would probably be his portrayal of McCready the spy in the made-for-TV adaptations of Frederick Forsyth's spy masterpieces in the late 1980s.

2025.01.24 09:42 Pirrt I just made £5K+ for one hour on the phone with HMRC (Employed HENRYs please read)

I was watching a YouTube video recently (Damien Talks Money) and he mentioned that if you're a higher earner you have to claim the extra tax relief on your pension if your company uses a 'Relief at Source' pension payment structure. Which most do apparently. This basically means you pay tax on your gross earnings and then the tax relief is added at the pension. HOWEVER, the relief is only ever 20%.... You have to claim the extra relief each tax year! I don't do self assessments as I have always been a higher earner via PAYE so I completely missed this. Luckily you can claim back 3-4 tax years so it is worth checking now.
An easy way to check if you're a 'Relief at Source' payer is to calculate your taxable earnings with and without your pension contribution from your payslip. As these two numbers are quite significantly different you will be able to tell quite quickly from your payslip if you've paid on the gross amount (so your pension contribution wasn't deducted from your taxable earnings - example below).
I gathered a few years worth of paycheques and called HMRC. I had a to wait for over an hour on the phone but as soon as I explained I was a higher earner and I was paying relief at source they immediately helped. They just asked which tax years I had pension contribution figures for (to check back to their figures), put me on hold for 5 minutes, and then came back and said "Yep we owe you £5k".
This is madness and I couldn't believe that my pension contributions weren't automatically getting the 40% relief! However, HMRC make it incredibly easy to claim.
I know most of you probably already know this, but for those like me, please check your payslips and give HMRC a call if you find yourself as a relief at source payer!
Below is a calculation example I made for my friend earning £65k paying a 5% contribution (£271) so they could check:
Relief at Source:
Gross earnings: £5,417
Tax free (£37,700 / 12): (£1,048)
Taxable Earnings: £4,369
Basic rate: £630
Higher rate: £489
Total Tax: £1,118 (this is what was on their payslip so they paid relief at source)
Net Pay (you don't need to claim for this pension structure):
Gross earnings: £5,417
Tax free (£37,700 / 12): (£1,048)
Pension Contribution: (£271)
Taxable Earnings: £4,098
Basic rate: £630
Higher rate: £380
Total Tax: £1,010 (this would indicate a net pay arrangement)
