What to do if you see ICE activity If you see ICE (immigration raids, vehicles, officers etc) activity in Denver, you should call Colorado Rapid Response Hotline to report it: 1-844-864-8341
This number is 24 hrs, staffed with volunteers to help track, verify, and confirm raids.

2025.01.25 00:32 Chrome_Atlas It's My Fault - The eBay Helmet Saga

It's My Fault - The eBay Helmet Saga Hello fellow Lions fans. Now that I've had time to put my emotions into a little box following our playoff loss, Ben Johnson to the Bears, Aaron Glenn to the Jets triple play, I'm ready to admit - I'm convinced this is my fault. How could this possibly be my fault? Read on.
I was born and raised in Downriver Detroit area slightly north of Monroe. 3 decades have been spent watching the Lions and although I've since left Michigan, I'm still a diehard Lions fan. The entire season, I've wanted to buy an alt. jersey helmet. Why? Who knows. Who cares. It's awesome and needs a home. How naive I was.
January 17th - the day before the playoff game
My amazing wife, who is also now a Lions fan, green lights the helmet I've wanted all year. I commit and order the helmet. Playoff hype is real. I need this thing in my house. Where? Who knows or cares. This season needs to be remembered.
January 19th - the day after the Commanders game
Emotions run raw. I look for outlets to place blame. The helmet. It has to be the helmet. I overcommitted. I message the seller a message, acknowledging the stunning defeat. I am ill prepared for the reply.
Me: "I’m now convinced ordering this was bad luck. 😭"
Seller: "lol I’m sorry!!"
Seller: "If it makes you feel better I’m a bears fan"
I see you, Bears fan. I empathize with your pain but you must accept it. We all have a path to walk. I banter with the seller about the Bears, FTP, etc. Little did I know I ordered a helmet directly from Satan.
January 20th - Ben Johnson to the Bears
What have I done. Did this helmet get dug out of an indian burial ground? A pet cemetery? I message the seller.
Me: "Ok, and now you guys are getting Ben Johnson as your head coach!? I’m fairly convinced this helmet is going to burn my house down at this point."
Seller: "I’m so excited!"
I'm sure you are, Satan. What wrath you wrought? I'm sorry everyone. It's all my fault. The helmet arrives on Monday and I'm fairly certain I will be Thanos-snapped from existence upon touching it.

2025.01.25 00:32 Professional_Cut8518 Early 30s - Did I Make the Wrong Career Move? Am I Too Old to Achieve My Career Goals?

I’m in my early 30s (M) and moved to Western Europe with my wife after she was transferred by her company. Before the move, I was the Global Manager of HR Systems at a major e-commerce company in Latin America but was laid off shortly after relocating.
I found a new job as a Project Manager, leading major projects in EU, but after 1 year, I accepted an offer from a Big Four as a Manager in HR consulting. The environment was toxic, and for my mental health, I left after 3 months and returned to my previous company. They rehired me as a Product Owne Product Engineer instead of a Project Manager, which felt like a step back. Even though I thought it would be a good move considering that such professionals will be on high demand in the European job market.
While I’m earning the same as I did at the Big Four, I no longer manage a team, and the role feels less prestigious. My goal is to become an executive (Senior Manager or Director) within 5 to 10 years, but I’m wondering if this move hurt my career and if I’m too old to start over like this. Am I indeed too old to achieve these goals?

2025.01.25 00:32 HeftySorbet5087 Canada new policy

Hi to my fellow international students with common law open work permits in Canada. How’s life? What’s the plan now? Haha. I’m an international student with a common-law partner, graduating this May 2025, and my visa expires in July 2025. I’m not on the list of labor shortages released by IRCC, and it’s been stressing me out lately trying to figure out how to extend my spouse’s open work permit. I feel so lost. Can I hear your thoughts on this policy? Let’s vent our frustrations here, and if anyone knows any alternative solutions, please share your ideas.

2025.01.25 00:32 jasonclxr Buying a property in Ben Lomond, looking for advice!

Hey all!
Graduated UCSC a few years ago and I absolutely loved the experience of the redwood forests and fresh air. Going up and down highway 9 was always a "reward" for me after a rough set of finals. Fast forward some years: got a job working in the video game industry and now work remotely in Sacramento. I love this city, but the loud neighbors, 8-month-long-summers (it hit 117F here in August) and lack of greenery has really worn my soul down.
Part of my routine going to bed is to flick through a couple apps for a few minutes and then call it a night. Well, a few weeks back there was this property up in Ben Lomond that I saw on Zillow that caught my eye. I know the SCM is a different experience than main SC and UCSC, but the thought of being able to get back to that area has me giddy. The house sits up on Hubbard Gulch Rd and is about a 5-6min drive from HW9. Secluded on it's own land, no neighbors, no barking dogs, no power saws at 2am.. just scenic redwood bliss.
From research, the heavy downsides of living up there include, but are not limited to: - Multi-day power outages - Homeowners insurance is next to impossible (CA "Fair" plan), seasonal risk of wildfires - The road is single lane and winding. Will likely discourage friends/family coming over - The occasional road obstruction - Cultural differences of small town vs. city
Some positives that I've noted are: - Quiet and secluded in redwood forest - No barking dogs, no power saws, no straight piped exhausts at 2am - Near highway 9 for the occasional spirited drive - Main Santa Cruz is only ~25-30min away depending on traffic and TOD - Main Ben Lomond is only 6min away - San Jose is ~45min away - My dad lives in Soquel so there's a familiar face not too far away.
I grew up in Lake County so the small town experience isn't something I'm unfamiliar with.. nor the wildfire risks, nor the power outages. I know how to make-do and the place comes with an included generator to boot. My heart says this is an amazing opportunity to get back to the area that I fell in love with, but my penny-pinching instincts say this is just not practical.
So.. time to come back down to earth. For those that DID make the jump, or have had friends/family make the jump.. what have you learned while there? Likewise for those that have lived in the SCM, what are some common mistakes us "outsiders" make when poking our ugly heads around?

2025.01.25 00:32 Professional-Bag8540 Does the "Doctor Search" have a lot of incorrect data?

I'm searching on Cigna's doctor search and it's one of the worst search engines.
Phone numbers go to just plain wrong places.
Some doctors say they do OB, but they don't.
Every profile photo is just the default pic.
I feel I can work there and fix this for them one by one, but does Cigna do this purposely to make it difficult?

2025.01.25 00:32 InternalKangaroo1018 What a difference a year makes …

What a ride 2024 was ... From my high weight right at the start of the holiday season (291) to my surgery weight in June (211), I'm now down almost 155 lbs.
I lost a person, but found myself.
I can move through the world and feel free. Unburdened. Strong. Capable. In control. Snazzy (at times). Confident (at times). Still a work in progress (all the times).
And I wore BOOTS! Boots fit over my peasant calves. Boots. Boots! Boots!! (big deal, huge)
I walk, I climb stairs, I lift weights, and I am living my life. Still finding my way, but I'm no longer filling emptiness with food and poor choices.
Thank you all for being my inspiration, guides, and accountability partners. I appreciate you all and thank you for the bravery, transparency, and honesty in sharing your journeys.
