2025.01.26 07:30 shinekodattebanya What psych sub specialty should I consider? Assessment of ASD/ADHD/+
I’m a social worker considering a dual social work and psych pdh. I don’t know if I should go for clinical, developmental, neuro, or something else. I do not particularly want to be a therapist, I want to do clinical assessment and evaluation as well as research. Here’s the catch: social work license means I could technically do that too an extent, BUT I am interested in autism spectrum conditions, adhd, and other neurodevelopmental disorders. These are not diagnoses I can do as a social worker. I have never taken a psych class, and don’t know shit ab the brain so neuropsych or cog are the answers I am scared to hear. Entering grad school in fall, so I’ll have more knowledge soon. For now tho, which psych sup specialty should I consider given my interests???

I usually hate making rant posts but I just can't hold myself back anymore. I've lived in Phillips for the past 5 months and the laundry room is an utter hellscape.
There is lint, gray socks, and dryer sheets all over the floor to the point where it feels like a breathing hazard. Of the ten dryers, Three of them are out of order (marked), one of them is out of order (unmarked) and another three run for 45 minute cycles only. That leaves only three dryers that actually run for full 60 minute cycles. I have filed roughly six maintenance requests about the dryers (which, thanks to the new system, takes 10 whole minutes just to do), and very little has changed since the academic year started (roughly the ssme # of machines are busted now compared to before). It's gotten to the point where this is my second time hang-drying things in the dorm overnight because I made a lapse in jusgement as to how soggy my laundry was. I keep filing and filing requests and nothing gets done.
I'm on the verge of straight up going down there with cleaning supplies to get rid of all the floor filth myself.

I told myself and others that I would actually contribute to this subreddit instead of just asking for advice. Like most of my promises, that lasted a few days… But maybe it’ll be different this time. Anyways. I want to want to change, or I think I want to want to change. I really do love the people that I keep close to me, and some part of me wants them to have a version of me that won’t do hurtful things. More largely, I’m motivated by not wanting to lose them. Which might be a sign that I’m not as far along in my recovery as I thought I was, but I digress. I want to be able to apologize, I want to be able to step back and think about my actions and CHOOSE more appropriate responses. I think I’ve made at least minimal progress because I do pause and think about biting my tongue sometimes now. But all of the terrible behavior comes flowing out anyways. Once I feel unheard or disrespected I lose control and that one logical voice is drowning in a sea of ideas about how I should go about my revenge. I can tell that things are coming to a head with my boyfriend. He keeps telling me that he doesn’t want to walk on eggshells around me, he knows I’m just hurting, and he wants me to be able to be vulnerable and tell him what upset me instead of getting mad. And I’m really trying to do that, but it feels impossible. I feel insanely angry and embarrassed when I think about telling him that he hurt my feelings. What I want to say is; “You did X and it made me feel X way”, but what comes out is: “You always do this, I’m not hurt I’m annoyed, I can’t believe you seriously need me to tell you what you did wrong here.” And I know that it’s just hurting both of us but it feels like something is PHYSICALLY blocking me from talking about my feelings. The same goes for apologizing but I’m actually a lot better about the latter than the former.
