hi reddit! So, my boyfriend is really into girls who fit the goth aesthetic—lots of black clothing, Ramona Flowers type personalities, and dark, edgy makeup. I knew this before we started dating, and at first, I felt pretty insecure about it. But I got over it in the first few months. It's been about 8 months now, though, and those feelings are starting to come back.
There are a few specific girls on Instagram that he follows, and I see them on his explore page all the time. For some reason, I've been obsessively scrolling through their profiles, comparing myself to them, and it’s really been bothering me. I don’t have TikTok, so I’m not sure what his feed looks like there, but I’m worried because he never opens it around me. Not to mention that these girls are beautiful!
For context, I’m not goth at all. I dress more cutesy—think jean skirts with frills, cute boots, pink tops, lacy tights, and sparkly makeup. I’m not super sarcastic and dominant. I’m very energetic and i TRY to be positive. Nothing like the girls I see him looking at. And to make it worse, most of them are pale with straight, black or dyed hair. while I’m mixed with curly hair, I have septum but am nowhere near the look. I’ve always had insecurities because my boyfriend is white and I’m Black, and his friends have made some pretty hurtful jokes about that in the past.
I know he loves me. He tells me all the time how beautiful I am and how much he loves my style, but sometimes it feels like he’s just saying that to reassure me and stop me from feeling insecure. He’s exactly my type—mousy brown hair, a bit nerdy, with the style I find attractive in guys. We also bond over music since we have the same taste. But deep down, knowing I’m not his “type” in some ways really eats at me.
How can I get over these insecurities so they don’t ruin my relationship? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.

(M 18 5’7 145 lbs not a smoker and have no other medical conditions besides this one) for the past 2 months i have been getting extremely bad nausea. when i wake up i almost have a burning pain in my stomach. i take tums quite frequently but they only help in the morning (assuming acid reflux). but after that goes away i get waves on nausea that come on and off. it's weird because i feel like i constantly have to burp and i always have to force burps because they feel stuck and most of the time it's either super small burps or nothing comes out. i also don't drink carbonated drinks or eat in the mornings so there really isn't a reason i should be burping as much as i do.

First, this is deplorable and I hope that whoever did this is caught and charged with a hate crime, as they should be. Second, both of my grandpas and a great-uncle fought in WW II to stop these kinds of things from happening. Paternal grandpa was in the division that liberated the Dachau concentration camp. Maternal grandpa was in in the second or third wave at D-day. Great-uncle was in the first wave and received the Purple Heart. All heroes and all from Iowa. Whoever did this is an uneducated coward. And in my opinion, not a true Iowan or American. They will be caught as there's cameras around where this restaurant is located. Also, there's already been a lot of support from the people of Muscatine as well as other towns nearby. This has just got to stop before it gets worse. Now this is what Jibaro's Facebook posted. "Jibaro went through this unpleasant experience where someone wrote a threatening message and damaged our walls and mutilated the paint with our flag. Jibaro is sure that these types of people do not represent the community of Muscatine. These are people with very little personality and in need of attention. We have already made all the necessary arrangements and we continue to plan for our contribution to Muscatine.  | I thought I'd share 2 things that help me in my journey that I rarely see mentioned here. Maybe my discoveries might help someone else.
Nor had I realized just how quickly everything adds up when you're counting EVERY SINGLE item! Holy mackerel and yikes! The key is to input all the Renphro amounts into a good daily health tracker that also is connected to a good food database. My Samsung Health app has a detailed food section where you log in each meal and all snacks. For each drink or food or protein shake powder, you first look up the item in the app's food database. Or you create a custom meal or dish, manually inputting its protein and other macros. Or you can scan the item's bar code to get all the macros and calories. (Photos 4, 5.) But without the Renphro food scale, how do you know if the Costco rotisserie chicken breast you ate for lunch weighs 1 serving size or 2 or 3? Merely eyeballing quantities won't work, especially if you don't have a good internal sense about quantities. The accuracy that the scale gives to my food sizing really helps me try to maintain a caloric deficit. I'm petite at 5 ft, so my 500 caloric deficit is a mere 1000 daily calories. (Or 800 during my sedentary weeks.) Trying to stay on top of that would be impossible if I were inaccurate about my portions or not itemizing everything I ate. I know food tracking is unhealthy for some people, so obviously I'm not suggesting that they try it. But for anyone else who wants to track but finds it hard, consider a smart food scale (from any company) to teach you about portions and serving sizes! It makes such a difference!
