2025.01.27 17:14 Middle-Length4120 Is my Motherboard faulty?
I've been having issues with this PC since pretty much day one 6 years or so ago.
The PC worked fine the first few weeks but then started having random blue screens after which it would work fine again for weeks at a time. I tried with XMP on and off and so on and did various tests etc (which all came out fine). No changes made any difference.
After having these issues for a while I pretty much just stopped using it and went full console.
Sometime in between I lent this PC to my brother for quite some time and he had no issues at all.
Now after all these years I tried it again and it worked fine again for a week or so.
It had 2 blue screens again and after that it went into on / off cycles when I tried to turn it on. (With error LEDs on the mobo)
I tried switching the RAM sticks to other slots and only using one and so on. I think it started to boot to windows after doing this troubleshooting. (it's been a few weeks) So I assumed it had something to do with either the RAM or the slots.
I had the sticks in the unoptimized slots for a few hours and then decided to try the optimized slots again and it worked fine again. I just went ahead and bought two new RAM sticks anyway.
Now it worked without issues again for 2-3 weeks and today it only showed a black screen after the bios screen. With the GPU disconnected and HDMI in mobo it booted in to Windows again. But anytime I plugged it back in to the GPU it only showed a black screen again.
I forced the Internal Graphics through the BIOS and tried reinstalling the GPU drivers when in windows and connected to the mobo. This didn't fix it.
After that I tried an old GPU and it booted into windows again but after 15 seconds or so the screen went black again.
Now I have my normal GPU plugged in again and it just randomly works now. I haven't tried running anything yet and just left it on for now.
I'm at my wits end...
Anybody got any ideas or am I SOL and just need to try my luck at a new PC? I don't think I'd buy a new motherboard for this CPU again since it's pretty old now anyway...

Hey Everyone,
I cannot boot into windows as there are red lights on the motherboard that points to CPU and DRAM. I'm in the middle of troubleshooting them atm, but the problem most likely comes from my CPU and/or RAM.
My current situation kinda puts me in a bit of hurry, so I want to explore the possibility of buying new parts to replace them, just in case.
My last setup: i7 - 10700 RX 6800 2x8 DDR4 3600hz 600w PSU
I do not have a lot of budget, so I was thinking about buying a Ryzen 5600 and its motherboard. Both of them costs around $123 in my country right now, and I do keep in mind to add a bit to that budget pool in case the problem also persists with my ram.
I also want to ask if it is a good idea to build an AM4 build right now because of my limited budget?
