2025.01.30 08:10 butachannel It’s so hard to focus on/stand by myself.
I’ve been a people pleaser, a giver in friendships, and an anxious attachment type in relationships. My intentions and purposes are always driven by other people, I fear being alone, I technically have hobbies that I’m good at but I don’t enjoy doing it or feel motivated to do it alone and haven’t done it for years. I started finding my dependent personality problematic since my last relationship ended, and I want to focus on myself from now on but don’t know how to and it is so hard facing myself. Has anyone successfully become emotionally independent?
What I’m thinking of doing first atm is going to therapy, taking a break from meeting people and slowly starting my hobby.

I seek to ship a laptop to a blind friend with a permanent remote access for support, I need to work without her assistance as soon as it's online, that said I want the interface accessible if I'm away so the user could allow a temporary access to a relative if needed. Windows/Linux support is needed since the user will have both.
Don't worry in privacy/security, think like a bike with training wheels, I hope to remove thoses as soon as possible.

I am almost a 3rd-year PhD student in Germany. I am working at a museum's institute, conducting my PI's project, and I have not yet enrolled at the university (I still have time for that). During my PhD, my 4-5 month-long experiments failed three times due to faulty equipment belonging to the institute. Each time, I started over, believing I could request an extension if needed. Two weeks ago, I asked my PI for an extension, but he refused, stating, "No one will take the blame for the bad equipment, and the institute's policy does not allow me to grant you an extended contract.". Also he does not want to write the project manager because I believe it will affect his reputation. Now, I have less than five months left, and all he seems to care about is his project and its results. I understand that I am working on his project, and completing the PhD is my responsibility, but these setbacks have really demoralized me. I also have nearly 50 unused vacation days because of these experiments. As a foreigner here, I need a contract to write my thesis and finish my PhD. What would you suggest? I cannot discuss the extension with my PI anymore, as it upsets him, so I am focusing on my work and trying to publish the papers required for my cumulative thesis. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
