My husband is a car mechanic/tech and works at a large garage. He does not have his own business and as a rule hates doing private work for people. He had an issue with his own car and had to replace the engine. Much of the old engine’s auxiliary parts were okay so he sold them on eBay/marketplace and made over £1-1.5k. He couldn’t believe how easy this was and has now bought another car with the intention of either repairing or dismantling it for parts. Logic told me that the selling of the parts from his own car was okay from a tax viewpoint but this expansion could walk him into a CGT/income tax issue. I’ve since looked online and it seems 12 cars is suggested as the threshold to being a trader. I know you get a £3k exemption on CGT and HMRC suggests you don’t pay on your own car so I was presumably right in thinking his current sales are fine. I just can’t see how HMRC would allow someone to buy 11 say £500 cars and sell them or their parts for say £1500 and deduct the £3k CGT allowance and take that £8k profit tax free. Maybe I’m a pessimist but I just wanted to check this before he gets into it. Is there anything he should be aware of? Thanks

Hey all, while I know this is a widespread issue with the new next gen US passports where the edges of the inside of the back cover start to peel and flake away, has anyone gotten any trouble for it? Especially in countries that are very strict about the condition of your passport, like southeast Asia. The peeling on mine has gotten pretty bad, but I've had no issues going to Canada, Mexico, Israel, and Guatemala. I'm planning a trip through Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines this summer.

Questa domanda perché conosco molte persone in questo ambito. Per amicizie comuni. E ovviamente non tutte, ma la maggior parte le trovo spesso quasi incapaci di relazionarsi alla vita reale. Magari per non saper nemmeno come girarsi nelle più basilari attività pratiche (dico cose base, come gestire un conto diviso al ristorante, organizzare un'uscita, idea su costi della vita ecc...) E in maniera estremamente opposta, altamente saccenti. Per le conoscenze che si hanno, e va bene, però chiunque può avere più sapere in un ambito rispetto ad un'altra persona. Relazionarsi basandosi solo su questo, e spingendo nell'esprimersi su concetti o com terminologia che è incomprensibile per chi non studia quegli stessi argomenti, lo trovo controproducente per interagire con chicchessia.
Spesso semplicemente mi sembra siano rimasti alle superiori come comprensione di come si vive praticamente.
