2025.01.30 14:40 TTandJY Prom Dress Sizing Dilemma
This is the prom dress I’m ordering for my special needs/medically complex daughter for her special needs prom that is in 8 days. They literally just told me about the prom. I’m like a deer in headlights right now. Anyways, my daughter has severe scoliosis, she measures 38-43-52. So therefore she needs a size 12 on top and a nonexistent size 23 for her waist and hips (24?). So I’m trying to figure out if I buy a size 12 or a size 24. I’m seeing that I should order the size 24 and take up the upper body. How realistic is it to remove 12 inches (6 inches on each side?) of the top of the dress? I barely know how to sew. I would think I would cut the excess off and sew it back up to the zipper… except this dress has rhinestones and beads/pearls maybe and sequins, and I’m not sure if I cut on it if the embellishments won’t just all fall off into the floor 🤦🏻♀️ Then I thought maybe I buy size 18 and go between both sizes? Does that ever work? For Halloween she wore a medium 8-10 cleopatra dress, it fit well enough, but looking back at the pictures, the Cleo dress should have hit mid shin, and my daughter is short and yet the dress hit mid thigh, I paid no mind to it on Halloween but now I’m wondering if it had “rode up” not because of her being seated in her wheelchair but because her hips wouldn’t fit maybe and thus made it shorter. Ideally I want this prom dress to look as good as possible on her for her special night. But I don’t know how to make this work, or any dress for that matter, considering her measurements. Anyone have any ideas? I think this is a A-line dress, are they more forgiving and ordering to fit her bust could possibly work out ok? I want her to be comfortable, she can’t wear a corset, and she can’t suck it in like I would 😅 And with the tiny belted part and I think the waist sizing is the most important. I truly appreciate any advice anyone can give. I understand the fear of telling me wrong but listen, I have zero clue what I’m doing, I have more faith in any member of this group than I do myself and I’ve not even had the pleasure of introductions. So pretty please don’t be worried about telling me wrong, just telling me anything will help. My Nanny was a seamstress in a dress factory back in the 70s for a couple of months, if she was still here I wouldn’t have a worry in the world, she was our family’s tailor, but alas, she left me equipped for everything except this prom. Sorry about the lack of paragraphs, my phone won’t let me format how I want. Thank You for your time.
