I’ve been playing hearthstone since beta and I have finally reached the point where I can’t do this anymore.
I’ve made it to legend basically every month for years with only small breaks where I didn’t play enough to get there.
With a day left in the month I’m sure I could grind my way there, but after 10, yes 10 promotion games, each one with crazy RNG, dead draws by me or god draws by my opponent, I realized I don’t really have fun with this game anymore.
Does anyone else feel like 80-90% of games your play has basically NO impact on the game? That leaves me enjoying no more than 20% of games where I feel like the game was close and fun.
Dying to Rogue on turn 4 is not fun. Having to face not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7, not 8, but 9 Zilliax is not fun. Having to fight 4 Raynors launching the starships over and over and over. Come on now.
Standard is Wild now and the power creep is unbelievable. I miss the days where there was play, and counter play, now it is all broken combos. Do y’all remember when we hated any burst that was above like 22? Before the StarCraft set I was burst by a spell Druid for 86!!
Maybe everyone else loves the insanity but I want a new keyword “Finite”. Could be “Finite x 2..3…4” or whatever. Because I’m sorry if you play 9 Zilliax you can’t expect someone to play around that. And there are many cards that are too good to have many multiples of. Looking at you too Boomboss, Ceaseless Expanse, etc.
Or how many times have you all paid attention to what cards someone discovered only for them to have another 3? Thanks RNJesus.
I was so excited for this new mini set, which I guess was my fault for thinking more cards, even from my favorite blizzard IP, would fix what in my opinion is broken.
Hopefully they fix it one day. But I don’t see any signs of that. It just sucks to enjoy this game for so long only to have it end up like this.
Sorry for the long rant, but I needed to get it out I guess.

Bonjour je ne sais pas si mon post fait forcément de sens dans ce sub, mais je voulais avoir des retours de personnes ayant peut être vécu la même situation que moi. Pour le contexte je suis actuellement étudiant en informatique à la maitrise avec une spécialité de Data Science, Machine Learning, etc avec préalablement un bac en génie informatique. Le problème c'est que je commence un peu a être tané de l'environnement tech, j'ai eu quelques expériences de stages et de jobs à temps partiel dans ce domaine mais sans plus. Hi all! I know most of the sub is taken with interview season right now :,) best of luck to everyone interviewing and waiting to hear back!
I’m interested in applying for neuro programs (and possibly some umbrella biomedical sciences programs) next cycle and I am currently looking at different potential programs and their faculty.
From what I’ve read so far about writing successful SOPs/research statements, it seems like there has to be kind of a central theme that ties together one’s past/current research experiences with what they wish to do in the future? So my first question is, is this true? Is it like an unspoken rule that (in a successful essay) what you talk about for research you wish to pursue through your grad school career and beyond should be linked somehow to your experience so far? Like I couldn’t really say, “I have experience studying topic 1, but I see that your school fosters a strong environment for studying topic 2, which I would love to pursue research on with PIs a, b, and c.”
I’m asking because my specific research so far has been focused on one topic, and I do have interest in continuing with this topic and applying to schools with faculty strong in this topic, so I will write about that. But, there are some other schools I’ve looked at with labs that interest me, that are all in another specific topic that I genuinely have an interest in studying, but I don’t know much about this other subfield and I feel like maybe I shouldn’t apply because I don’t really have a specific “story-like” reason that led me to be interested in this other subfield that I could write about in an essay, I just find it interesting.
My second question is, for the schools I am thinking about applying to because I want to work with faculty that do research similar to my current work (so the essays will have that “central theme”, I hope), can I kind of split it into two? What I mean is, my current research is the role of x cell type in y disease, and there are not many labs that study this specific combination, but there are more labs that study x cell type in other contexts, and y disease from different angles. Can I say something like “I hope to continue studying x cell type in other contexts with lab a or b, or aspects of y disease that labs c and d focus on”? I’m worried this might sound unfocused, because I’ve read that you should kind of know what general topic you want to study, be passionate about that topic, and write essays with that single topic as the theme that ties it together. If I structure essays that “split” my current work’s topic into two, does it just sound like I don’t know what I’m passionate about and I’m just trying to write whatever similarities I can find with a school’s labs to get into a program? Because I really am excited and curious about both x cell type and y disease and I would seriously love to pursue research on eitheboth in grad school :(
My last question is, how much should I elaborate on my PIs of interest, and does this vary by school? Like should I just say “I find professor X’s work on Y intriguing”, or should I say why it’s exciting to me? What I want to contribute to their work/how I might fit into their lab? Or is that too much detail?
This got so much longer than I intended, but hopefully some of you have good advice! And I’m sorry if these are silly questions with obvious answers or something like that, I don’t know anyone outside of my professional life that has gone to grad school and I’m not sure where else to ask for help :,)

So over time, the air molecules that Socrates breathed out have spread throughout the atmosphere and are now part of the air that everyone breathes.
But this is a big problem to me, because it means the air molecules I breathe have likely also passed through Donald Trump's lungs.

2025.01.30 19:10 DeadmanSwitch_ What if every subclass had access to all of their Aspects?
The theoretical situation could be because of an exotic, some activity that enables all possible aspects, or even just powercreep, doesn't matter. Hypothetically, if every subclass could use all of their aspects at the same time, who breaks everything and who trips over their own aspects?
Couple restrictions, Lets say for the sake of argument everyone gets 5 aspects per subclass now, and the only thing that can be run multiple of are aspects themselves, not grenades or melees or class abilities.
I have several hours at work with nothing to do but browse reddit on a computer so I typed my thoughts below, ignore them if you don't care, I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts. And before someone tries to be rude about this, I don't care if they never do this, its just a theoretical idea because I like to think of these types of things

Here's my thoughts at least on who's winning and who's struggling, and who might genuinely not care either way;
Solar overall just wins completely, nobody hates having all their aspects working together. Hunters can just run Gunpowder Gamble on their usual golden gun/tripmine sets, Titans get to actually have Roaring Flames on their Consecration sets, and Warlocks go absolutely apeshit with a buddy, flying all over the place, healing from damn near anything, and just generally never needing to touch the ground ever again
Arc is not so cut and dry a benefit across the board as Solar. Titans ironically struggle harder now because of the introduction of Storm's Keep. Its such a strong aspect that we're getting, but its completely ruined by Juggernaut. Touch of Thunder and Knockout are still super neutral and go with anything of course, but Juggernaut and Storm's Keep both utilize the class ability, and Juggernaut can have it completely consumed by just sprinting and getting shot at. Hunters on the other hand have perfect synergy with everything in their kit for Arc, and man it looks fun. Warlocks also have no bad interactions between all their aspects on Arc, so everything will just be a benefit to have in some way.
I would argue Void has some of the most broken combinations in Hunter and Titan with how well everything synergizes together. Hunters are now permanently invisible, everything is volatile and weakened, and Gyrfalcon just ascended to godhood. Titans have so many ways to get a Void Overshield and every way possible to abuse it and I love it. Warlocks I feel are very neutral for their combination of everything, nothing bad but nothing crazy overall. Just a benefit to run whatever your heart desires.
Stasis has historically been a little weird due to it being the first of the 3.0 class system, and time has not been kind, though better now than ever before. Straight up being able to run other aspects alongside the Harvest aspects is a massive boon, I dont think any one of us can complain about that. Titans can now spam Howl of the Storm for even more crystals and Cryoclasm to reliably break crystals, Hunters just become Shatterdive (Adept) but in a good way, or even just Duskfield Central, and Warlocks probably care the least. They'd just stick to Bleakwatcher builds but now freeze can spread and your class ability will also freeze, so just better at what they already do.
Strand finally adds some possible negatives, Titans won't like it do to Flechette Storm being generally awful overall, and I'd argue having Drengr's Lash doesn't change anything in how Titans would play Strand, its just kind of there. Warlocks also finally have a negative interaction potentially with Weavewalk, another aspect considered to generally be a waste and not very good at all. The Wanderer is also not great from what I've heard, but I don't play Warlock so I can't speak on that one very well. So two aspects that don't play nice, it feels like Warlocks would be better off with just as they are now. Admittedly I don't know a lot of the combat loops for Hunter on Strand, but just looking at your aspects makes me weep. Everything you do just gets infinitely better and ties rather nicely into the standard gameplay loop that everything else does, its a work of art.
Prismatic is dumb enough already with the combination of aspects that never were meant to see the light of day together, and were generally designed to be used in tandem with one another already. Giving access to all 5 aspects at the same time is too insane to go into major detail about, so I'll keep this one brief. Titans actually care the least about getting all 5 aspects at the same time, Drengr's Lash still sucks without Abeyant Leap, Unbreakable is nicer now but I'd still rather just throw a shackle grenade so its niche, Diamond Lance is just handy and the only one I view as an actual boon to this concept, and then Knockout + Consecration is exactly the gameplay loop you'll still be doing 90% of the time with this. Hunters swap out all of their aspects equally except for Gunpowder Gamble, so not having any of those restrictions makes this single handedly the best subclass for this concept, no competition. Warlocks get to run triple lightning surge alongside triple buddy and devour, absolutely nutty and I love the idea

Hey all, for sometime now I’ve been interested in reading about Rome. I recently picked up SPQR, which was very good. Now I am looking for more books to read, however it seems there are also a lot of fictive books out there. Not that that is bad thing per se, but I’m more looking for known accurate books.
I have seen people recommending Rubicon by Tom Holland, or Storm before the Storm, but it seems like those books aren’t necessarily all that accurate or are it only minor things that make for a better story? Are there other books out there that maintain historic accuracy? I am mostly looking for books regarding the fall of the republic, Caesar and Augustus.
Hopefully someone can help me out with this, thanks in advance!
Note: I only know the very basics of Roman history.

Ik zit nu in deze situatie:
Ik begin volgende maand aan een nieuwe baan, 1 jarige contract, 1 maand proeftijd maar wel met uitzicht op vast contract. Werkgever wilt best intentieverklaring geven. Daarnaast ben ik ook net toegewezen aan een nieuwbouw koopappartement.
Vandaag heb ik een afspraak gehad met een hypotheek adviseur en zij stonden er positief in. Ik zou ongeveer op een maandbedrag van 1050 euro (bruto) komen (dit is inclusief de kosten voor meerwerk maar ik zou zelf 6k moeten inleggen). Daarnaast zijn de VVE kosten ongeveer 150, dus totaal zou ik 1300 euro per maand moeten betalen. Ik huur nu voor 800, dus ik ga 500 euro meer betalen maar ik verdien met mijn nieuwe baan ook 500 euro meer. Ik hield altijd al 500-750 per maand over dus ik denk dat ik de maandlasten wel aan zou moeten kunnen.
Ik vind het alleen een beetje spannend dat ik net een nieuwe baan ga beginnen. Ik nog geen optiegesprek gehad maar na het optiegesprek heb ik 14 dagen de tijd om koopcontract te ondertekenen en vervolgens 2 maanden om een hyptoheek te regelen. Met een proeftijd van 1 maand is dit dus prima te doen.
Maar wat als het fout gaat bij mijn nieuwe baan? Die kans lijkt mij wel klein voor het eerste jaar, dan moet er wel heel wat misgaan. En wat als ik toch geen vast contract krijg? Ook deze kans is heel klein maar toch is die er.
Daarom heb ik de volgende backup plan bedacht:
In spaarpotje A heb ik 22k zitten, dit dient als algemene spaarrekening/emergency fund
In spaarpotje B heb ik momenteel 6k zitten, dit heb ik nodig voor eigen inbreng/kosten van hypotheek etc.
In spaarpotje C heb ik 12k zitten, en dit is specifiek bedoelt voor als er iets gebeurt met mijn inkomen dat ik de hypotheek kan blijven betalen voor ongeveer een jaar, dan heb ik dus een jaar de tijd om iets anders te zoeken.
Voor de overige kosten ga ik vanuit dat ik een uitkering kan krijgen bij het UWV, of anders mijn emergency fund gebruiken (met 22k moet dat ook goed komen), maar hopelijk vind ik dan gewoon snel een nieuwe baan.
Is dit dan een goed backup plan en het risico waard om het nieuwbouw appartement te kopen terwijl ik net begin aan een nieuwe baan met een 1 jarig contract?
