I watched chessbrah's on John Bartholomew's respective series on chess basics. My main takeaway was that players below 1000 regularly hang pieces. That is not my experience on chess.com. Even in the first few moves, my opponents will attack my pieces, and my response will put that piece or another in danger, it ruins my tempo, and I lose. The guys at my chess club are telling me to learn openings. I thought all I needed was principles? Can someone explain what is reasonable to get past 500? I'm struggling to stay motivated to keep playing if I can't win at a rating most people are way past before they get stuck

Before getting my ADHD diagnosis 2 months ago, late in life. (I always knew I had it) I was pretty sure that I'm on the spectrum.
However, before putting that on myself, I wanted to get through my health issues and treat the ADHD. See if things would ease up.
My life has gotten substantially better. I'm actively doing the things I sit in paralysis over.
But.
As some of my subtle symptoms come back, and I watch my 2 children grow, I've got the thought inside me screaming
YOU'VE GOT FUCKING AUTISM.
idk why but it won't stop.
Anyone else?
Also, I'm not wanting to talk to my doctor about autism I think out of fear, but at the same time I spend all day practicing trying to tell him how I believe I am, and the 5,000 reasons throughout my life as to why in my head almost all day.
